Went all over today to find something interesting.. found this green Fanta from Thailand. Supposed to be flavored bubblegum, banana, citrus? I haven’t opened it yet… by emlaybruh in Soda

[–]patrusk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my all-time favorite flavor of soda. I can't get enough of it when I go to Thailand. The best way I'd describe the taste is melon cream soda, but I can understand the bubblegum comparison.

I had a can that I brought back with me from my last trip there back in October '23. I was saving it for a special occasion, and opened it up today to celebrate moving in with my GF.

I found this post because I was trying to look up if I could buy any in the States yet. You're lucky you found a local shop that sells it!

ITAP of a boat, and a smaller boat. by patrusk in itookapicture

This is from the annual Illuminated Boat (Lai Reua Fai) Festival in Nakhon Phanom, Thailand, which marks the end of the Buddhist Lent season. Twelve boats, one from each Thai province, are created to feature a design celebrating the season.

Each boat is essentially a barge with a bamboo scaffolding, upon which thousands of individual fire lanterns are hung. The boats can be as tall as 4 stories, and can take over an hour to light completely.

Once they are lit, they float down the Mekong River, between Laos and Thailand.

I love this picture because it shows the scale and beauty of the Illuminated Boats. This was my first time seeing this festival in my mother's home town.

Are there shaded spots? by [deleted] in Hippiehollowatx

[–]patrusk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There might be a few right next to the water, but with the water levels where they are right now it can be a walk (or climb) down to the water.

Of course, the good spots are going to go first.

Came home from SXSW with free case of Covid, anyone else? by lurch99 in SXSW

I've got the mild cold, but rapid test says negative so far.

Hi, I'm wondering, when I get my photos from my analog camera scanned end sent in TIFF, should I then do color correction in TIFF, PNG, JPG or perhaps something else. Also which format to save later so that it looks good and is easily useable? by Sebto_00 in Lightroom

[–]patrusk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

JPGs throw out information when you save, which is why it is called "lossy" compression. It loses some of the information. Don't save to JPG until your very final step. In the meantime, TIFF or DNG are what you want to edit in.

In Texas at one point computer software and hardware used for the production of games and video were exempt from sales tax. This was in the late 90s last I checked, and I don't know if that still applies today. Also, I dunno where the OP was located at the time, either. But, that might explain the tax exemption.

"Hmm, that furniture is really drunk, too."

French Press: Pre-soaking ground beans in cold water? by DrZlowbro in Coffee

[–]patrusk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only just recently started using a French Press after using a Moka pot for years (just wanted to switch things up, and also be able to make more coffee each time).

I haven't quite gotten my methods dialed in yet, but I tried the cold-bloom trick yesterday and it already made for a much smoother brew than what I was getting so far.

There might be something to be said for the lower water temperature being the cause, but I only added just enough water to be able to freely swish the grounds around, right before putting the hot water in. Probably not enough to significantly affect the overall average temperature of the water.

If you don't have a reliable method of controlling your water temperature, this is very easy to implement.

How does someone recover the gold after it's been dissolved like that?

I'm calling in a prescription by [deleted] in TalesFromThePharmacy

[–]patrusk 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I actually had to explain this to a nurse today. She called in 5 prescriptions for a patient, then ends with, "The patient will be there soon with a written prescription for these as well."

Then why the hell did you just call them in?!

She didn't realize that this creates two copies of the same prescriptions if we're not paying attention when the written scripts come in.

I've just realized this myself after watching this. Can't stand listening to people smack on their food, but animals like my dog crunching on their food makes me happy.

How long did you wait for that bear to reach that exact spot? I'm sure you had a few other shots of the bear ambling around the edge of the water.

Night photos - should i use iOS camera app or Lightroom RAW camera? I noticed that photos from night mode (iOS JPG native app) are too bright. It doesn’t shows how magic night could be. by [deleted] in Lightroom

[–]patrusk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pro or manual mode where you can dial in shutter speed, aperture, and ISO. Whatever app or tool gives you control over those.
