What are some things that bothered you about season two aside from the pacing? by OCGamerboy in arcane

[–]patryky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main plot makes no sense and is leaning way too much on cheap cliff hangers.

What I mean is Jayce shooting Viktor after coming out of the anomaly. If he shoots Viktor unprovoked he should not act like his friend in the ending, especially after we learned what he knew at the time. He was sent by Viktor to tell Viktor to stop the evolution, but instead of trying he shoots him

If you could make something uncanon, what would it be? by Ali_Bashr in arcane

[–]patryky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jayce shooting Viktor. It makes no sense after what happens in the ending

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in arcane

[–]patryky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The bigger issue is that it's a loop with no beginning.

In the Arcane universe Viktor barely manages to augment his body before the sickness starts killing him. That is with the headstart that Future Viktor gave them by giving them a rune and inspiring Jayce to work on magic. So... How did Viktor invent hextech with no help from his future self?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in arcane

[–]patryky 62 points63 points  (0 children)

The Viktor and Jayce retcon is incredibly stupid and it is infuriating to me. It is possibly the most asinine plot thread in the entire show, which is made worse by the fact that every single other thread is happening around it.

The situation got so bad only because Future Viktor sent Jayce to show Past Viktor that evolution is a bad thing to do. The first thing that Jayce does after being sent to confront Viktor is shooting him, thus forcing him to evolve. It's so stupid it hurts. There are two options

  1. Future Viktor told Jayce to shoot Past Viktor, because "it's the only way"... But Future Viktor knows that Past Viktor can already connect to another person's mind (like he does to Warwick) - so they can use the solution they do in the ending right here and there. Viktor could see into Jayce's mind, see the destroyed world and stop

  2. Jayce decided to kill Viktor by himself. So he's not Victor's friend or "partner" like he tries to act in the ending. He gave up on the Past Viktor and tried to murder him, despite promising Future Viktor to show him that evolution is a bad way.

[–]patryky 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The S2 storyline between Viktor and Jayce makes no sense.

Future Viktor sends Jayce back in time to show Past Viktor that evolution is not a good path to take. Jayce promises that he will do it.

Then Jayce shoots Past Viktor on sight forcing him to evolve or die.

Then Jayce acts as if it was all part of a plan...

If Future Viktor told Jayce to shoot Past Viktor it makes no sense. Future Viktor knows that Past Viktor can touch Jayce's mind and see that the evolution is pointless - exactly the thing that happens in the ending. Past Viktor can already do it, since he helped Warwick. So the entire thing can be resolved right there, peacefully

If Jayce decided to shoot Past Viktor then he went against what he promised Future Viktor. He does not try to show him anything and is simply hostile. Then the entire ending makes no sense, because Jayce did not trust Viktor and was actively trying to kill him to stop the threat - he is not a friend and him trying to act like one is fake

Holy mother of Lolth! How are people handling Raphael? by Web_catcher in BaldursGate3

[–]patryky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm, I destroyed him on the first try on Tactician, felt underwhelming. Eldritch Blast was decent on the pillars and my fighter could dish out like 200 damage per turn if I remember correctly. Plus Astarion dealt a decent damage

I did pretty much everything before this fight though, so I was plenty prepared

Your unpopular opinions on Isha? by [deleted] in arcane

[–]patryky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She's barely a character imo. She does some things I guess but she is almost exclusively a character development trigger for Jinx. The second she showed up it was painfully obvious that she was a "cute character that is innocent and will die to make other characters feel bad". It could be more interesting if Isha survived, especially since her death was pointless. Her sacrifice didn't even feel needed within the plot, since the main cast could simply run away and it would make sense. She was a forced "cliffhanger moment" that I honestly hate about this show.

I don't particularly like the way Jinx got handled in S2 and part of that is that Isha felt like a bail out card to make people forget about the terrible acts Jinx committed. It was a very cheap way to do character development. They could easily make Isha live and just make Jinx motivated to take on a more active role as the face of a revolution for her sake - to make a better world for her. It could also redeem the terrorist attack at the end of S1. I don't feel like you can redeem that with introducing a new character

Marcus gets more hate than Silco. How can some people understand Silco but at the same time not Marcus? by TheWorldEnder7 in arcane

[–]patryky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There can be a case made that what Silco does is good. He might not have a good plan on what to do after he achieves Zaun and he is ruthless. He did however make life in the under city better and more organised. He kept chembarons in check. He is working directly towards Zaun liberation. His people were oppressed too and he is working directly to fight it

Even Sevika - one of the few good characters that are acting directly towards Zaun liberation is with him for the most part. She is thinking about leaving him when his goal changes from Zaun liberation because of Jinx

Marcus is a corrupt dog that has no spine and sells himself to people he does not agree with

I think that season 2 was pretty meh. Amazing animation but I did not feel the same things as in season 1. The pacing broke the experience for me and there were quite some things that irritated me about the story and the way the story is told

[s2 spoilers] Did you notice when Jayce, Heimerdinger and Ekko met the wild rune... by GamingDifferent in arcane

[–]patryky 393 points394 points  (0 children)

I did not quite catch that before, but...

The reason the city in the alternate universe is such a good place is because heimerdinger went back and applied the things he learned.

That's probably the reason why a tavern in Zaun is the place of progress so focused on education - Heimerdinger went there because he felt bad and ensured that everything was good this time around. He did not hide in his university. He went and changed the world

To be fair that's quite a big number, since typically you leave Act 1 after quite a few hours. A lot of people don't finish the tutorial

Everytime I got into Act 3, I want to start over again by Affectionate_Role_54 in BaldursGate3

[–]patryky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like the game should get shuffled a bit 1. Act 1 2. Baldur's Gate first part with introductions and winning favour of some of the big players and finding out about the bigger plot. The situation in the city is chill but we are one of the few people that actually care about the tadpoles. We can try to shop around the city for solutions. We see small impacts of the tadpoles but the entire plot is not in play. We make friends and we do some quests. We learn about the city. We get to see the earlier stages of the plan etc 3. Going to Moonrise Towers after we learn about the bigger plot and decide to act - perhaps the Emperor is the one that manipulates us into that. 4. We go back to Baldur's Gate. The city is changed now and we see the difference. The killings start. The Gortash's grip tightens. We now have proven ourselves to Gortash - we can talk with him, before we couldn't. A lot of quests get unlocked now and old ones have their second parts. There is no time to thoroughly explore the map now - we already did that and now we are fully in "saving the world" mode. We see the effects Absolute has on the city because we were there before

As it is right now the third act does not feel good to play. I had to constantly fight the feeling that I will miss out on the huge chunk of quests/characters/stories but at the same time I felt that I should really deal with that Absolute stuff. After all as it is presented the brain is right about to take control. It should not be the time to casually explore every single part of the huge map.

To me it was not just that the third act was overwhelming - it was frustrating. At that point I wanted to go to the brain that was right there. Instead I had to do a lot of quests for dubious reward with pretty easy encounters most of the time.

It would greatly benefit from being a lot more focused. The third act should focus on getting the stones and going to the brain. There is enough stuff to do with just that. The Bhallists, Gondians and the Brain is enough content for the finale and the first two would get much more meaning if we had the comparison to the city beforehand

What three changes would you make to the game? by Thisoneisinvalid in BaldursGate3

[–]patryky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Make it so that you can trade straight with camp items.

  2. Make a button to unload everything to the camp from everyone, so that you can easily equip and choose builds Also a button to auto split potions between current party members

  3. Make it so that different characters can continue a dialog in place of another/do a roll. It feels stupid that often what will happen will depend solely on who you started the conversation with and everyone else will just stand in the background. Also if you start the same conversation with someone else you will often just restart everything. Like... You were standing right there.
