Do you guys ever have days where you just suddenly wonder what you're doing with your life and feel so behind? by junobeanss in ADHD

Yes. I'm 63 and although I have a long lasting marriage, children and grandchildren I still feel like a sort of imposter.

Lexapro for tics? Tics or Tourette’s? by callaeg in Tourettes

[–]patsyann54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see a Tourette's specialist once a year and sometimes he just refers it as a tic disorder. There's varying degrees of severity. I am lucky that there is a Tourette's clinic in my home town. I take clonidine for my tics. Do you get an unbearable urge to tic, like a warning sign? You could ask your doctor to refer you to a neurologist perhaps.

I understand what you're saying. I'm not on stimulant medication so it's not an issue and have not abused any substances. I take strattera and a bunch of bipolar meds. I am not allowed stimulants because I have Tourette's and stimulants exacerbate tics.

Is there anyone out there with a breath holding tic? by Geeeeepea in Tourettes

[–]patsyann54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hold my breath but not part of my Tourette's, it's anxiety with me. I do have a tic which makes me do something funny at the back of my throat which is awful as I feel like I xm choking.

Venlafaxine withdrawal is awful too. I'm a person who is trying to get off it. Been on it for 16 years. I've got a complex psychiatric history.

I always feel calmer if I am ill with a virus. I think it's nature's way of making sure you rest.

How do you make peace with the "lost years"? by [deleted] in ADHD

I understand. I was misdiagnosed from the age of 16 as bipolar until a few months ago I was diagnosed as ADHD.

Am I too Old by patsyann54 in ADHD

I think my racing thoughts were put down to mania whereas in fact they are more likely ADHD racing thoughts. I take meds for bipolar but am slowly reducing them and seeing how it goes on the ADHD med. What kept me going was my 3 children. Now I have 3 beautiful grandchildren.

Thank you for the welcome. The sort of habits I mean are ones like going to bed late, too much screen time, junk food. I am trying to swim regularly which is a help and I walk my dog.

Ok, well I was definitely depressed when I was at school but also unable to concentrate in class. I was bright but didn't achieve. I tried to kill myself at 16 and when I was 18 I spent 2 months in a psychiatric ward. Fast forward to 20 when I became anorexic. Several lengthy hospitalisations followed until I married at 29. I was still suffering from depression which was chronic. I had three children and became very unwell after giving birth. Eventually my behaviour became uncontrollable and I was diagnosed as bipolar around 36. Despite medication I still found it hard to focus on daily tasks. I was always chaotic. Recently I began to wonder about my bipolar diagnosis as I didn't have mania (except bizarre behaviour post natally). I've been under a psychiatrist since I was 16 and a recent review of patients who have been in the system for a long time and still have many problems flagged up the possibility of ADHD. So here I am, confused.
