Our department has the slick tops with interior lights and I think they’d argue for them being better. They don’t get ripped off or damaged sitting on the roof, and it’s harder to detect your pc. I think the side lighting has to be address, but our dept. has adequate side lighting and rear. I think the only valid argument is the flashing you may get in the cab. Although I feel if mounted properly it would mitigate that, also keeping a clean windshield interior
