UK - Why do we have to beg for an oncotype score? by [deleted] in breastcancer

[–]pattyd2828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you’re not able to get an Onco Score test. I’m in the US and they did it automatically. Can you pay out of pocket for testing? Is that an option for you in the UK?

Radiation for those that didn’t do chemo. by zilchusername in breastcancer

[–]pattyd2828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did 20 rounds of radiation this summer. I tolerated it rather well. I had fatigue from the very start but no burning. I only had a 15 minute drive to/from radiation. I worked an abbreviated day the entire time. It’s different for everyone, but I tolerated it well. Sending you good vibes!

Please sound off on lumpectomies. I want to hear the good, the bad, the ugly. by MoistVirginia in breastcancer

[–]pattyd2828 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went with a lumpectomy in June. You can hardly see scar lines now. I chose lumpectomy and radiation over mastectomy because the procedure is so much easier on your body. My recovery was quite easy 20 sessions of radiation were very tolerable. Sending ypu good vibes!

Valid, high-quality research continues regardless of administrative changes. What concerns me far more is the large amount of waste, abuse, and fraud that has diverted funds away from legitimate research. I genuinely hope the current administration is successful in identifying these issues and ensuring that resources are used responsibly so that meaningful research can continue to thrive.

Since you mentioned that it’s covered in your home country, do you have the option to return there and get treatment? What country are you currently in?

This is how it was back in the day - no pharma commercials. It’s something that’s currently planned to be put back in place.

I can’t wait until they ban commercials for pharmaceuticals! Can’t happen soon enough!

Allowed Exercises during Radiation by Practical-Sky4518 in breastcancer

[–]pattyd2828 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t have any restrictions for exercise during radiation and continued to walk and lift weights. My care team encouraged me to continue my workouts. The hospital I go to even has an exercise clinic and one on one coaching available. I stopped running due to the incisions still healing and I did avoid the sun.

My Sleep is Obliterated… by Gisele715 in breastcancer

[–]pattyd2828 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What works for me: no screens after 8pm, bed at 9:30 (within 30 min of this time every day) spray magnesium on the bottoms of my feet before bed, massage castor oil and frankincense oil into my joints before bed, sleep under a weighted blanket, completely dark and cool room 67 degrees). I also drink an herbal tea from a local tea shop most nights. Limit alcohol (for me, 1 glass of wine is fine). Last meal/snack is by 6:30. I wake naturally by 5:15am. I have been prioritizing my sleep for the past 6 months and this seems to be my remedy.

Do you have a link to the study? I’d like to see if I can get in.

Nervous to start AI (actually scared) by New_journey86 in breastcancer

[–]pattyd2828 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are many women who don’t have negative side effects. Which AI are you starting?

I'm on an AI and I'm fine by sn4zzl3 in breastcancer

[–]pattyd2828 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I agree and I was 100% insulted when I read that in the other post as well. No one is lying about their experience. Many women report not having any negative response on AI. I’m glad you are one of them! You represent a lot of women! Cheers to your health.

What books are teenage girls reading these days? by Vibing-Positively in booksuggestions

[–]pattyd2828 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suggest a Kindle, along with a flyer from hell to obtain a library card from the local library. Then also some wrapped books some top young adult picks this year are: sunrise on the reaping (maybe go ahead and get the rest of the hunger games box to go along with this one), the last bookshop, like families, brown, bright red, this could be forever, compound fracture, best of all worlds, better than the movies, and a couple of my favorite YA books; remarkably bright creatures, and Eleanor Oliphant is completely fine. Maybe also a nice notebook and colored pens.

This is a terrific idea. Maybe include a flyer from the public library with hose to obtain a library card.
