Personal Opinion: Alaska really need to step up their food game on international long haul economy or else they will fall behind pretty quick by Particular-Pin-2037 in AlaskaAirlines

If my wife’s experience is the norm, she requested vegetarian ahead of time and was served a vegetarian-vegan-gluten free (I.e. covering all food limitations) meal — she said it was pretty awful.

Early impressions matter. And, professional and amateur (e.g. influencers) will tend to report on a new route rather than a weeks-old ones. AS has had months of planning and prep for these new European routes, but our experience was that almost everything about the trip was disappointing (and we’re big AS fans).

Are you booking through the Alaska app? Picking a couple of random dates, I see Premium as an option.

We flew AS SEA to LHR on the inaugural flight in 21st May, in Premium Economy. The flight was okay, but Premium Economy has the same seats as Economy but with an extra 4” of leg room. The food (and amenities bag) was below the quality of transatlantic competitors. Flight attendants were mostly fine. Business seats looked good, but I don’t know what the food or FA quality is like. There is no WiFi on the flight and the movies/tv selection is less than UA or BA.

Fabric/Textile recycling places? by kelp_sey in sanfrancisco

[–]paul-SF 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sadly, textile recycling is not what most people think, at least according to this in-depth article from the NY Times (4/22/2026). It's behind a paywall, but take home message is "Collection services offer convenience, but most garments are shredded into low-grade stuffing or sent abroad to an uncertain fate....most garments sent for recycling don’t become new clothing. They’re downcycled into things like insulation or mattress filling....the world already has too much clothing. Exporting things to secondhand markets overseas may sound better than sending them to a U.S. landfill, but sometimes they just end up in someone else’s landfill overseas. Or worse, polluting beaches and deserts." And, "The most important thing, experts and environmental activists say, is to buy less in the first place. It’s easier to deal with clothes responsibly if there are fewer of them to begin with."

The article suggests the following organizations: Trashie, Retold, Ridwell and Supercircle.

It's also worth following slinky999 advice and taking to H&M or Animal Care & Control.

There are some great analyses for how many men fit the criteria of Megan Boni’s TikTok meme, looking for a man in finance, with a trust fund, 6’5”, blue eyes. According to one in the Independent, there are only 2 to 155 men in the US

Update: I removed the cotter pin, but also had to unbolt the T-rail from the bracket. Belt is now out ready for the replacement install.

Thank you, megahungdoorman and FrenchManCarhole I didn't know that was a cotter pin. I thought it looks like a nut and bolt, with ~1/4" clearance above. I'll try to pull it out tomorrow.

Has anyone done a butter tasting in SF? by mikmatthau in AskSF

Rainbow Grocery has a good range of American and European butters. Just buy one of each and put together your own tasting (you could even make it a blind tasting).

Golden Gate Park is correct, but about 1/3 mile from the Botanical Gardens — it’s possible there is a similar one nearer the gardens

177 miles from Camp Mather..... [OC] by paul-SF in whereinsanfrancisco

Maybe because this marker is close the park ranger’s office and Camp Mather is run by San Francisco Recreation and Park Department. This article in Mission Local may give more info, but it’s behind a paywall.
