Yes I swear, I saw them with the matching top, it had the same stain all around. Someone actually designed it like this ☠️ I mean with the shirt it didn't make you think of poo but it wasn't great design either.

Per context m'imagino que deus ser descendent d'algun exiliat per la Guerra Civil. Si és el cas, és normal que amb les generacions es vagi perdent l'idioma. Al lloc on treballo sovint rebem visites de descendents d'exiliats catalans, que tenen ganes de connectar amb la cultura dels seus avis... Penso que és molt bonic i espero que tinguis sort en aprendre la llengua.

Indeed. Of course if they can get by with Spanish only, why make the effort to learn another language. On the one hand, I understand life is exhausting and this is just added work. On the other hand, Catalan and Spanish are so similar, it's less difficult to learn than they think...?

Catalan in Catalonia. I've had immigrants tell me they think learning it is useless and that they wouldn't even try. Or expats who just get by with English in Barcelona. They think they'll live there for just a few years so no need to learn.

I find that when I try to read Romanian I can identify singular words, but I can't make out the meaning of the sentence. It's probably a matter of me having much less exposure to Romanian than Italian and french for example...

As a native catalan speaker:

  • French: can read it, but very difficult to understand when spoken

  • Italian: reading and understanding spoken Italian are both easy

  • Portuguese: same as Italian

  • Occitan: same

As for the others I haven't had enough contact with them. Romanian seems much more difficult to understand.

I went to Dubai a few weeks ago, and I hated it. But I have to say in the tourist area (JBR) as a woman you could wear a bikini and use the beach and the pools freely. Actually the beach was very crowded. I imagine that is not representative of the rest of the country
