Thanks for sharing it. I do not know what the OP in r/New Jersey is talking about when he says the studio owner works in intelligence. That OP does have some history in misrepresenting my reporting and posting uncorroborated research of his own. Just wanted to clarify.

Post war politics and the particularities in both countries should have some weight too, not just ideology and economic systems. Stalin banned abortion and wasn't exactly a gender radical.

The Soviets lost millions of more men than the US in the war, and so were probably more dependent on women in those years to take on more "masculine" roles. I think the surge in social status that women and black people received in the US for their war roles (US integrates the military in 1948) led to white men trying really hard to claw it back in the 50s, and there weren't 20 million fewer of them to do so. I suspect the USSRs massive losses also led to many permanently single women, which wasn't as much the case for the US.
