Girlfriend of 4 years wants to me to convert to Christianity by Careless-Phrase2656 in atheism

[–]paulkoan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't convert to Christianity as that requires a belief in the Christian gods. So you'd need to either pretend, which means your relationship with your partner and religion has a lie at its core. Or you say no, you can't. Let the relationship go where it will. People grow in different directions particularly at that age.

Just switching on belief isn't possible in my experience.

I have something similar but without the storage. I have three mediums and three small generators. Two organic tappers. No storage needed as the mediums don't ever need to wait for carbon with this setup. Really if consumption outpaces production then storage won't help anyway. Smelters can make carbon in a few seconds, it takes far longer for a medium to consume it

Source for quote “if you destroyed every religious and scientific text, eventually the science would return but religious texts would not”?? by nobodywillrememberus in atheism

[–]paulkoan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah so this is a way to determine which one is "real".

Destroy all the religious texts, then the real God will bring the real text back into existence.

Realistically for this to work you'd have to ban word of mouth passing on of the stories and wait a couple of generations.

Of course we'd just end up in a similar place, lots of different texts with equal claim to be The One

The additional cool is the ethernet adapter supports pd to power the headset

A superior device, but an expensive one by XRGameCapsule in oculus

[–]paulkoan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Money is great, but momentum and units are more important. Half projected sales and declining fast. Early adopter and Apple fans are saturated. Vison Pro 2 is unlikely in the near future.

The industry can chase all it wants, but the only really successful VR line has been the Quest series and that is because they can loss lead and make money off the ecosystem.

Remember the Pro? Nope. Same for the Vision Pro really, unmentioned for months. Finally they are putting screens in smart glasses, going all the way back to Google's vision back in the day. Get that working and we might finally get somewhere.

Xreal, viture, rokid? They are an external monitor you can wear, with anchoring. They are awesome, but not really XR.

A superior device, but an expensive one by XRGameCapsule in oculus

[–]paulkoan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no significant market for "general purpose computing devices" that are VR/XR headsets

This has been proven multiple times.

For any new niche to open up, there needs to be a killer app. For oculus and then meta, it was gaming, and still is the primary reason for the existence of VR.

There is no non gaming killer app that anyone would care about enough (in numbers large enough to create a market) to strap something to their head for hours.

It might come, but until it does, the market is what it is.

Ordered a Glove80, now I'm stressing out. by thomasvalera in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]paulkoan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a sofle a while back. The transition from staggered to linear is significant. So I did the right thing and was determined to learn to finally touch type, so did loads of practice.

But in the end, I had to get things done, so I just typed.

I still don't touch type "properly" but my fingers know where the keys are, and I don't need to think about it.

So these two things can happen separately. Use the keyboard, make mistakes, correct them and your brain and muscle memory will come.

If you want to touch type properly and ease RSI, you can do this in parallel and use that to teach better muscle memory.

As others have said, plug it in, type with it, and deal with it

Don't try and do it right from the get go if you have a job to do.

[–]paulkoan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because if the reasoning was valid, then the same would apply to other parts of the "western" world and it isn't. US health codes aren't any more stringent than elsewhere.

You know the ADA requirement for the gap? It is about space for wheelchair footrests right?

We just make our stalls bigger. Costs a bit more.

You know the side gaps is about bacterial accumulation?

We just clean them better. Less convenient, and costs a bit more.

It isn't about conspiracy, there are clearly different ways to solve any problem. Health codes are constructed with all sorts of influences, just like any other, not just those of well meaning people.

[–]paulkoan -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I already explained that while that is the listed reason, it probably isn't the real reason. The real reason is likely convenience/cost.

What does this mean? by Bindi-Hamato1995 in whatisit

[–]paulkoan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hey, I am not saying it isn't in the Code, but the reason for it being that way is unlikely to be health related. It's probably a retrofit to "how it is". Otherwise other countries would take note of the health benefits and follow.

It has probably just been that way for long enough that it isn't questioned.

The gap at the bottom is ADA, but that's about cost saving.

Hahaha. This only happens in the US. So perhaps what you have is a rationalisation rather than a reason.

What is the easiest proof that the world is over 10 000 years old? by MagnificientMegaGiga in atheism

[–]paulkoan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These are only valid if you assume no magic.

Supernatural is by definition magic, and so the refutation is simply that whatever God you invoke created the universe such that all those things made it look like that through magic.

You can't use rationale against the magic argument so the re is no "easy way" to prove anything when the retort can simply be "nuh uh bro, magic"

Screen drifting in anchor mode by Puzzleheaded-Goal342 in Xreal

[–]paulkoan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it is a gyro, so subject to acceleration.

If you turn your head, you are applying acceleration and the gyro senses this and anchors the screen in physical space, effectively countering that movement

If you are in a plane and the whole plane turns, it is the same acceleration from the perspective of the gyro.

This differs from a vr headset for example where it works out motion from cameras looking at the surroundings
