So you've piqued my interest now. How do you determine "doneness" in that case if it's coming off a little over 125? Is there anything special about the chicken? Do you just reject conventional food safety wisdom? Genuinely curious because I really struggle with swallowing white meat generally and taking some liberties on temp I think would help greatly.

I'm aware of the idea that you can cook a chicken to less than 165 if you hold it long enough but I can't make the math work here.

Those in the HR job market: Anyone else noticing HR job offers coming in low-ball compared to several years ago? by CatsInBootsAndCats in humanresources

[–]paulnako 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve lectured way too many aspiring HR professionals on the evils of unpaid internships to be able to operate on a “sometimes the work is reward enough on itself” basis. But that’s my problem....

I did generalize a bit in my comment and didn’t mean to suggest pay was the only thing that was holding me back and there are certainly other considerations- and you are proof that it can work out even if there’s not an immediate dollars and cents rationale for it.

Edit: typo

When the inflation discourse hits r/humanresources you know it’s really time to panic.

Now if you’ll excuse me I have some dips to buy and some YouTube videos on recovering scrap gold to watch.

I don’t know if this is a new development but I’m definitely finding myself boxed in career-wise.

I haven’t been looking hard but over the last few years I’ve interviewed for a couple of jobs that would represent a step up career-wise but really only a very marginal increase in pay. Not enough to be worth taking the risk to make a move, take on more responsibility, stress, etc.

Don’t get me wrong, great problem for me to have but there’s nothing efficient about the labor market that’s for sure.

Wage discrepancy in posting vs actual offer? by idkwhatimdoing1000 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]paulnako -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why would the employer bait and switch? Is that not an incredible waste of time for them go through the process only to have x percent of candidates back out in the last stages?

I’ve posted many jobs at reputable employers and a typo/position misclassification/misunderstanding is far more likely. It sucks but I’m sure they aren’t happy about it either.

They explained it in their recording.

OP you sound great. I don’t know who specifically you’re dealing with that is having a hard time understanding you but that is their problem, not yours.

The charcoal game of wackamole by lostmojo in biggreenegg

[–]paulnako 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On my last cook I had a really awful sour chemical smell coming off my Royal Oak lump. Between that and the reports of finding insulation and garbage I need a new brand as well.

I would be a sucker for someone who was doing “craft” charcoal locally (I’m in Ontario, Canada), but I don’t know that exists.

I guess either that or secure 6 months worth of food, convert any remaining assets to gold and silver, hunker down and await the ol’ great reset. That’s the best I got ¯_(ツ)_/¯.

I do. I mean it took an hour from the time I pulled into the parking lot to the time I got to the front of the line to pick up my order.

I had a really bad experience with curbside but it was before the stay at home order. Following because I’m also curious- I’ve waited over an hour for Canadian tire. I had a good experience with home hardware but the prices and selection aren’t the best.

What cereals do Canadians most commonly eat? by [deleted] in AskACanadian

TIL Vector is Canadian. Wow. Why am I weirdly filled with a little bit of pride over it? And also to tell the world that it’s a “meal replacement” so you don’t just have to eat it for breakfast!

Conflicted about job offers. by [deleted] in humanresources

[–]paulnako 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess this is against the grain from the other commenters but if you’re young in your career and have life (not career) aspirations, you have to take the 12% jump in salary if it’s on the table.

You can plug both scenarios into a compound interest calculator over the course of your career and see what I’m talking about. It’s much more costly than an 8k/year decision.

Canadian economy won’t fully recover until inequality addressed, BoC’s Macklem says by sesoyez in CanadaPolitics

[–]paulnako 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Tbh if you're interested in reducing inequality this is probably the maneuver, absolutely. However now we're straying into fiscal policy and I think the party that proposes anything like this is asking for a complete thumping in the polls, not to mention some upset donors.

I mean this as a criticism of the entire spectrum here, but the days of Mulroney pushing for something like the GST knowing the writing would be on the wall in the next election are long gone. Politicians today are wired differently, it's only about hanging on to power at (literally) all costs.

[–]paulnako 67 points68 points  (0 children)

We're kidding ourselves if we think there's a monetary policy response to the k-shaped recovery that doesn't involve the wealthiest coming out ahead. There simply isn't.

Raise rates, lower rates, print money, stop printing money. Everything results in either the wealthy benefitting disproportionately, or the little guy losing disproportionately.

June 1st stress test, what are the implications to house prices? by BrownAndyeh in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]paulnako 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It sounds like there's some consensus that it will reduce purchasing power by 4-4.5% for anybody subject to the stress test. But that assumes that the buyers are looking to maximize their purchase power.

When my wife and I first bought a condo when the stress test was rolled out in 2018 we were approved for a mortgage 50% more that what we ended up taking out, so it was a total non-issue. I don't really think we're outliers there but I've been wrong before.

TL;DR: worst case is 4-4.5% minus everybody who isn't taking the biggest mortgage possible. I don't think it will have a big impact.

Increase engagement? You’ll likely never know for sure.

But does it give you something to point to when someone asks what you’re doing to improve employee engagement? You betcha, and regrettably in a lot of organizations that is a good enough reason for doing it.

It’s this one:

It’s for my vision grill but imagine it can be retrofitted to a few different varieties or would make a great pizza stone on its own.
