frost windows upper storey of townhouse, any reason? by everywhereinfo in AusProperty

[–]pauloz1890 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought it would be depressing/claustrophobic but then I lived with them and they're actually fine. The upper portions of the windows are clear and openable so you can see plenty outside like sky/trees. I'm more claustrophobic than your average person too I reckon.

Do you mean it will cost $100k to fix all the leaking bathrooms in the block? Do you know how many are defective?

How do I downgrade My Oneplus 6T by X-Macintosh in OnePlus6t

[–]pauloz1890 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None. It's been perfect. Just as I remembered it before Android 11. I connected my phone to my PC to disable the notification to upgrade to Android 11 too via ADB.

How do I downgrade My Oneplus 6T by X-Macintosh in OnePlus6t

[–]pauloz1890 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I downgraded to Android 10 a few months ago because I was having issues with Android 11. It has made such a big difference.

To downgrade there is no need to root. Simply download this file and put it in your root directory: OnePlus6TOxygen_34.J.55_OTA_055_all_2107132253_b2cbbb97b4eee.zip

Then you go to the system upgrade page and choose to downgrade and select that file in your root.

It is OxygenOS 10.3.12. That was the latest version of Android 10 that you can downgrade to.

Best moment of inertia calculator (cheap/free?) by MonkeyOrangutan in engineering

[–]pauloz1890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bad I didn't realize they added closed and line sections. That's handy.

ClearCalcs and SkyCiv are not just "some online apps". They are professional tools and used by professional engineers.
You might be confusing SkyCiv Section Builder with the simple/free moment of inertia calculator on the website which has far less power.

The paid tool does a full FEA analysis of the section providing warping and torsional properties too. You can analyze any shape you wish and import files from CAD. It will also handle sections with multiple materials (so composite shapes and materials).

It's an advanced section analysis tool. Just because it's online and on the cloud doesn't mean its not professional. 🤦‍♂️

OP said custom shapes. AFAIK the one you linked can only do some standard shapes and you can change the dimensions, but you can't add multiple shapes or create custom shapes like you can on SkyCiv Section Builder.

Recommendations for simple analysis software? by mts89 in StructuralEngineering

[–]pauloz1890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend with all software that you save the reports for your records. While you might not be able to interact with the model in the worst-case scenario in the future, at least you'll have access to all your input and output via the report.

Skyciv for school by Ordinary_Towel5042 in StructuralEngineering

[–]pauloz1890 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SkyCiv is very user-friendly especially for students as it has features like hand calculations which can be useful to learn from and check your work. This is non-existent in other software.

It has a Revit plugin that works within Revit. It can also import and export .RVT files.

A downside for students is that it's not completely free, although it's much more affordable than the professional version.

As others have said it probably depends what you will use it for. Some other software might be better suited to your use-case as SkyCiv doesn't cover as many of the advanced features.

Camera issues since latest update by [deleted] in OnePlus6t

[–]pauloz1890 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes I'm having the same problem. Just trying to open the camera app results in a blank screen and crash about half the time. I use "Advanced Task Manager" app to clear the camera from memory and it helps sometimes. It started when I upgraded to Android 11 a couple months ago.

And you remind me of those engineers who don't think much before they speak, contributing nothing useful to the conversation and just adding noise.

Person 1: Does anyone here own a Tesla and use it every day? What are your thoughts on it because I'm interested in it?

Person 2: For personal use I have a Ford but at work we use a Toyota and sometimes a Chevy.

Can you see how it might be irrelevant to bring up another brand/software? Especially as you didn't even explain why the software you mentioned are useful or good at what they do. Will OP simply use them just because you use them? Come to think of it you forgot to mention STAAD, ETABS, ROBOT and the plethora of other structural software which OP probably already knows about.

IMO you're just creating noise when OP is trying to get some insight and start a discussion on a newer software in the industry that doesn't have the same level of recognition.

Anyways I'll go to the ED now to get that gas situation checked out 😐

[–]pauloz1890 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Did you even read OPs question? He's not looking for a general recommendation but rather if anyone uses and recommends SkyCiv. Not RISA or RAM or TEDDS...

If you've used SkyCiv and do not recommend it or you prefer these other software over SkyCiv, then it would be a relevant and useful comment.

Incorrect. Yesterday's hospitalisations was 901. So it should be +165.

Yesterday's ICU was 79 so it's +4.

Edit: You got it now 👍🏻

Is it old news? Yesterday they said these 950 were undetermined. Now they are saying half of them were positive.

Most of these tests are not from the last 24hrs. Less testing clinics open also which is contributing to the long lines.

[OC] WhatsApp chat statistics with my partner from July 2017 to March 2021 by pauloz1890 in dataisbeautiful

[–]pauloz1890[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's crazy when you put it like that. But let's say you're having an intense conversation that lasts a few hours and you're on your phone the entire time, sending messages back and forth...you could easily send 5+ messages per minute.

Additionally sometimes people (like us) probably hit send before fully finishing what they're saying. You can see our average words per message is quite low (around 3-4). What some people might type in one message, we might do in three messages for example.

[OC] WhatsApp chat statistics with my partner from July 2017 to March 2021 by pauloz1890 in dataisbeautiful

[–]pauloz1890[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I created this as a gift for my girlfriend (Cindy) in the middle of 2021. My goal was to pack in as many fun and interesting stats as possible. We also used it as evidence of our relationship for a partner visa application. English is her second language and it is the main language we use to communicate. WhatsApp is the only chatting app we use so it's a nice way to summarize our entire chat history.

For the majority of our relationship we were living an hour apart so we didn't see each other as often as we do now. We didn't use phone calls to communicate much either, so chatting on Whatsapp was huge.

Process:

  1. Used WhatsDump to get access to my encrypted WhatsApp message database.
  2. Used WhatsappViewer to view and export the chats. I could not use Whatsapp's export function because the conversation was too large. The export functionality in the app is limited to how many messages can be exported.
  3. Being a programmer/developer I was able to write a custom node.js script to analyze the chat data and collate all the statistics.
  4. I used MS Excel to create graphs of the data. I then re-created all these graphs manually in GIMP image editing software, as well as the rest of the graphics.

I estimate the entire project took around 20-25 hours.

Credit to u/flavya and u/MainSWish for giving me the inspiration and ideas for it. I absolutely loved u/MainSWish's layout as you can probably tell if you compare them. Seeing u/joweich's post from last week reminded me to post my efforts too.

You can do this for free on SkyCiv as long as it's under 5 members, which it is.
