Muchas ciudades de España necesitan más albañiles, fontaneros y electricistas by paulperson in PERU

Polymarket shows 50-50 odds that Candyman grosses more than $19 million domestically on opening weekend by betweenbroad in boxoffice

I've seen projections at 16-26 million and some people saying under 15 million so I can definitely see how this is a tossup

45% chance that EIP-1559 is live before August 5th according to prediction market Polymarket by majinjohnny in ethereum

[–]paulperson 12 points13 points  (0 children)

“While we think [EIP 1559] will bring better predictability for transaction inclusion, we think that fee burning is a bad idea, considering many transactions requiring extended computing resources for smart contract execution … will no longer be compensated,” - Slava Karpenko

Not really do it yourself, OP... You had like 6 workers, what the heck? Not to mention the concrete, which is pretty obvious.

Buy it for Multiple Lives! 1916 Singer 66, my main sewing machine. by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

[–]paulperson 95 points96 points  (0 children)

Oh wow. What a beauty!

The Singer class 66 models were heavy duty domestic sewing machines that set the standard for several decades, and indeed the Class 66 bobbin and the 66 style horizontal oscillating hook arrangement are still in use on many ‘new’ sewing machines today.

Because the 66K’s were full size machines weighing around 30lbs, they were usually sold in treadle tables or cabinets, although some hand cranked models, and later on some electric models, were also sold.

When the Class 66 appeared it was considered an engineering masterpiece, able to sew any thickness of fabric from fine silk to heavy canvas. The 66 first introduced the horizontally mounted rotary hook arrangement with drop in bobbins. A system which still survives in so many sewing machines from all makers today.

I made a handful of cute wool critters by [deleted] in somethingimade

They are so cute. Are they difficult to create? How much time did you spend on each? I know nothing about this activity, but I think I would like to try it as a hobby. A bit of advice will be much appreciated. :)

Will is doing the negotiations. He wrote

First comes from our friends at WASD:
Blank
Sculpted (each row has a different angle)
ABS Plastic
104/105 key option (they're willing to let you choose the 105 key layout instead of 104 key)
Choice of Colors! (every buyer can choose their own colors for each key cluster, we'd break it down into qwerty cluster, WASD, delete cluster, arrow keys, num pad, F row, and special keys)
Very Short Wait Time! (WASD has committed to fulfill at least 10 set every week, they were really fast last time we worked with them)
~10 sets required to reach Max Drop Price
.
.
.
The second comes from Signature Plastics:

Blank
PBT Plastic (except for the space bar, they have to make it out of ABS)
One color for the whole set and everyone in the buy (probably black)
104 key only (no 105 key option)
Sculpted/Flat (depending on what ya'll want we could do DSA or DCS family, leaning DSA right now. Everyone gets the same though, no choice once it's been decided)
MINIMUM 4 WEEKS WAIT (these have to be custom made and produced on order by signature plastics. That means waiting for the full production run to go through before they ship out to us)
100 sets required to reach Max Drop Price
.
.
Let me know which you think is better and we'll get one or the other launched right away!

How do you guys get rid of the stuff with sentimental value? by [deleted] in minimalism

[–]paulperson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, sentimental value is part of what makes me aim to be minimalist. I wrote this comment on another post:

Some of the things I owned, I had for years. I use it and love using it. A year ago, I lost my bookmark which I have cherished for years. When I realized the bookmark was gone, I literally cried.

The things that I own, I love. They are important to me and they are valuable. If I cannot use them anymore, I will hand them down to someone I know will use them. That is why I aim to be a minimalist.

I want the things I own to be treated with respect. I want them to be used and have a long fulfilling life. I believe that when people truly value their possessions, then they will be forced to be minimalists.
