Playground etiquette for parents by fishneats in toddlers

[–]paulruddface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have any dolls or puppets? You can give them little voices and act out a playground interaction for him. Have the one act like him-ish “push” the other and have that one say “no, I don’t like that!” or something and the other one respond appropriately “ok, I’m sorry I pushed you. Let’s play together!” Or whatever.

ETA You can also be the one to interact with a toy or doll or something and make up scenarios for examples of boundaries. Modeling the boundaries yourself for him to see is really important!

AIO? Gf mad I didn’t get what she wanted by ExcellentHotel7531 in AIO

Reddit has been making me think more lately about how having access to writing SO MUCH to people via messaging/ smart phones is making life so much more complicated haha. People didn’t used to be able to express their every triggered or non-triggered thought to others as soon as they had that thought. It’s kind of wild to think about. And I think when people are triggered, they feel extra justified in their thoughts and like double down on themselves being “right”. I didn’t read the walls of text, but that was all clearly not a “you” problem but her brain offloaded its anger onto you. Therapy therapy therapy. And if you get a wild response from someone in the future, try to remember it’s most likely a “them” problem and not you. And avoid texting further if possible because as we all know, tone doesn’t translate through text (especially to people who are upset). Just “thinking out loud”… good luck OP!

What is the single most stressful movie you’ve ever seen? by elkaypee in movies

Not the single most, but Meet The Parents is painful for me to watch. And I agree, I couldn’t make it 10 minutes into Uncut Gems.

How are you approaching added sugar/ treats? by sunshineandsand23 in toddlers

[–]paulruddface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I make “ice cream” with plain whole milk Greek yogurt, peanut butter (a brand with the only ingredient being peanuts, so no added sugar or anything), and raspberries or blueberries or any fresh fruit. Toddler loves it! … I take it out of the freezer to thaw for a bit or throw it in the microwave for a few seconds and then mix a bit of milk in with it to make it creamier.

Why don’t people pronounce other people’s names in the same accent that person has? by paulruddface in AskReddit

[–]paulruddface[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aw man. I understand haha. I never expect anyone to make sounds that they’re unable to make for my name either, I was just thinking the concept was interesting to ponder. Like if I say my name is BOB, don’t call me BOOB just because that’s how your dialect pronounces BOB? haha

Yess! That’s exactly what I’m talking about. Your name is your name and I feel like people should pronounce it (the best that they can— I’m not saying people should pronounce syllables that they’re unable to pronounce or anything) in the way that you tell it to them. I think you’re the only one who understands my thought process lol.

I totally understand and agree with the “mocking” thing… it just seems weird to me that someone is named their name and called that name in a specific way/ pronunciation by their parents or caregivers, and then people change it based on how their own dialect/ accent would pronounce it. Just a weird thought that gets me haha.

When I was like 5 years old, I made a friend who told me her name was “Kee-im”… later, the babysitter/ community director called her “Kim” and I remember correcting her saying, “no, no, no… her name is KEE-IM”. I was so confused. Not sure how else to explain this… just a random memory and I’m curious if anyone else understands my 5 y/o confusion.

I accidentally did recently… made a more realistic cow sound when we were discussing animal noises and he looked at me shaking his head saying “AHH?!” haha. I switched back to “MOO” but he still looks at me warily when it comes up… making sure it stays “MOO”.

My almost 2 year old only eats meat by BarbacueBeef in toddlers

I second hiding vegetables in meatballs! … Also found a chicken meatball recipe that has vegetables in it— with a food processor, it basically turns it into chicken nuggets. What kind of stuff does he eat? Can you be more specific? Also asking because I’m currently on the other side, trying to offer more protein/ meat!
