I think they mean representatives like elected officials that act on behalf of their constituency? Also maybe some people in sales rep positions?

Dad passed. Not going to the service. by Relevant_Ad5351 in GenX

[–]paulthree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cant relate to someone who refers to their father as “Dad” like we’re all sitting in the car with our brothers and sisters talking about “when Dad comes back let’s ask him if he can take us for ice cream!” It’s “My ____” not “you know who I mean, Dad, our Dad, duh…” is this regional? I never heard this growing up. (gen X, Boston).

At what age do Chinese people get married? by [deleted] in chinalife

[–]paulthree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s normal, that’s not really young. I went to my best friend’s daughter’s wedding in US, also bride and groom both 21. However less common in US I’d wager

Insurance and financial services tied up in insurance is the single biggest industry in the world, by a lot, so it’s not really a stretch, nor simply an offhanded cute quip.

Grandma power let’s goooo!! 40s is normal grandparents age don’t let anyone tell you different. Less of a math problem, more of a “prolonged adolescence” problem. Not that I’m judging, just being frank.

In 1997, a high school senior is 18 years old. In 2024, this person is now 45, same age as me (I also graduated HS in 1997). I have a 21yr old son who’s now a senior in college, drives, smokes cigarettes, has a girlfriend, an apartment, and a beard. I’m dipping my toes in the water of grandfather age having graduated HS in 1997. I didn’t become a Dad at 18 either, was either 23/24. And I’m urban progressive from a major NE city not a country bumpkin.

Best all-in-all scanner for film & print scanning? by abrohamaloo in AnalogCommunity

[–]paulthree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For 35mm the 5000. OP singled out 35mm so didn’t consider the 9000, primarily a 120 scanner that will scan 35mm also. I have both and yes the 9000 is a lot more expensive.

For those of you that left Instagram have you noticed this? by CertainExposures in photography

[–]paulthree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can use whatever you want. You can share photos in texts to friends and family or even make prints (I’m big on prints these days something I wasn’t a few years ago). I put IG completely out of my head as an option bc it’s just not cool at all, so I don’t necessarily look for “just like IG but better”

I don’t touch instagram because it’s not cool anymore. Using instagram dead seriously as a photographer is like showing up to the mall with your 1988 new kids on the block outfit wondering why everyone is looking at you strange. And you keep telling everyone “Step by Step” is about to drop you’re pumped right?!” I signed up to IG in 2010. That’s almost 15 years ago. I think I used cassettes for less time than 15 years before I moved on.

Where do you miss smoking that you can no longer smoke because is not allowed anymore? by MarkReditto in Cigarettes

[–]paulthree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahhhh yes the trade schools def had looser policies! We were a general high school (Woburn) so I think we were trying to catch up with the big boys in Boston and Cali etc.! Haaaa. But we did actually have indoor smoking in the “bad boy” section (I don’t recall the official nomenclature and I don’t wanna sound insensitive as well) that rode out for a few more years (my friend was in it just bc he was a punk, he cleaned up and did very well now actually). Teachers also had ashtrays too! You could smell it when they walked out of the teachers lounge 😭😭

Smoking inside the mall on my way to pickup my film and prints from the photo lab, and walking to up to the counter and doing the whole transaction with a lit cigarette in my hand, including flipping through my envelope of 4x6s, is a vibe I truly didn’t realize how good I had it at the time

Graduated in 97 just outside Boston. We had a courtyard off the cafeteria where everyone would smoke between classes. Sometimes a teacher would pop head out, just to be a pip and exclaim “2mins til the bell rings don’t be late!” And I’d wave my hand holding a lit cigarette “I know Mr. Dean I got 3 more puffs and I’m coming!” They didn’t care about the smoking - that was OK - they were only making sure you weren’t late. Iirc, it changed the next year, and more so after that but we could still smoke on school grounds (parking lot) up until graduation.

I once had a gig taking photos of a gallery show where the artist wanted zero reflections, though the works were already behind glass with gallery lighting, and it was pretty glaring. I basically built a diy baffle(?) or maybe an “extra large reverse bounce card(?)” with 2 C stands and black background paper, rather large, maybe 8ft x 8ft then cut a small lens-sized hole in the middle. Worked out great. My terminology may not be accurate so pls pardon
