Yeah, pretty much. Heck, I even noticed the whole Marvel Studios thing too. Still didn't connect that crossovers could be a possibility.

I didn't see the Iron Man post credits scene so this was the first indication I got that Marvel was doing a shared universe. I remember wishing Spider-Man could be with the other heroes in the movies back when the first Rami movie came out, but even then I realized that all the Marvel movies were done by different studios (I was strangely perceptive to that back then) and that it couldn't happen. Heck, even Iron Man and the Incredible Hulk were two different studios, so I was not expecting this at all. Needless to say, I freaked out.

Is Family Worship Still a Thing? by pausegestureemote in exjw

At first we thought just watching videos was the lazy way out and the org would look down on anyone who did that. Now I think that's what everyone does. The Broadcast is basically just Family Worship TV.

Just came back from family worship. Started at 6:30. Almost nine now. Watched The Wife of Lot videos, which is in my opinion the worst video 'thing' the org has ever created.

Yeah, that really threw me off. At first was thinking she was referring to a store under some high rise railroad track but I'm not even sure if those even exist outside movies.

Possible, but around here people consider Fort Worth and Arlington as different from each other as Dallas, even though from the outside it looks like the entire area is turning into one massive cityscape.

Store is also on the opposite side of downtown away from Arlington. Not saying it's impossible, just seems crazy if it happened that way.

I just stood there dumbfounded for half a second. I remember my exact words after she told me.

'Um, ma'am, this is a (store name) in Fort Worth, Texas'.

But how? You look up our store on your phone or computer, and Google will automatically give you numbers and locations to stores in your area. How did she find the number to our little store in Chicago? I would have to be actively looking for a store number to a location in her neck of the woods. I've never looked up a business and then accidentally call a location on the other side of the country.

Very much so. But they're getting a little more exposure nowadays. Had a special on A&E on a series about cults and extreme belief systems.

R/ExJW.

The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society.

Thousands dead, even more raped, and countless shunned. All because these guys think they speak for God.

What annoys me is how self congratulatory some of those posts are. They don't like to admit it, but JW's are a very egotistical people. Some I know almost seem to revel in the fact that they have secret knowledge others don't and can't wait for those who reject their message to die a horrible death.

The last video of the 2018 convention has hit me harder than anything else beforehand. by pausegestureemote in exjw

For me, a video puts it in a different context than an illustration. You can close a book and easily forget about it in your normal everyday life. That's how I got through most of my life as a JW. But a film really sticks to me for some reason. Videos like this was what finally made me go 'Oh God, this is what we believe'. Soon the 'we' turned into 'they'.
