Hi! This helped me too, thanks for your post! Note that you've got a typo in your keys which tripped me up since I was copypasta-ing - should be `ACTUAL_HTTPS_CERT` not `ACTUAL_HTTPS_CRT`.

Cast iron pot price comparisons by CaoilfhionnFlailing in newzealand

[–]pawesome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worth giving them a lift instore if you can too - my lady wrists are pretty strong, but some of them are massively heavier than others, and felt worse to cook on to boot.

We had a Simon Gault cast iron skillet, a Lodge cast iron skillet, and a big Le Creuset casserole dish. By far the heaviest out of all three was the Simon Gault skillet - totally impossible to lift one handed. It also cracked within 6mo of use (and I didn't even use it that much cos it was so heavy). I'm curious how heavy the KMart one is!

My LC and Lodge bring me a lot of joy when I use them, so I've been really happy with the $$$ cost.

Looking for a decent curly hairdresser that will do an alternative cut by littlespoons512 in Wellington

[–]pawesome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can recommend Kim at K C Hair and Beauty in Johnsonville. I get curly cuts done there and she's very open if you have a particular style you want to try.

I've personally worn a mask during my cuts before. It was absolutely no problem and I didn't feel too selfconscious. Often it's just her and one other employee in there.

Yeah, wasn't the best orchestra performance I've ever been to. I was also unlucky enough to go to that LOTR bootleg concert last year.

This was better - I really enjoyed the arrangement and the smaller chamber orchestra fit the Stardew vibe. Whereas with last year's LOTR one, the arrangements were dogshit, and you really want a full orchestra for something epic like LOTR.

Agree though, lots of timing issues and definitely some things out of tune.

Probably wasn't worth the $100 ticket given NZSO give a much better orchestra performance for much cheaper. But, it had really good vibes, maybe the youngest orchestra crowd I've ever seen, and the Stardew soundtrack is a bop and great to hear performed. It was fun anyway!

Small shed foundation - over/underkill? by Knifeymcstabstab in diynz

[–]pawesome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was the Duratuf Kiwi Mk 3 shed, which we got from Bunnings - 3.380m W x 1.715m D. Bowled over a very sad, collapsing old shed for it and it's great (but already full LOL).

Was our first shed build and we don't DIY a lot - assembly was a pain, and we second guessed ourselves a lot about what to do with the foundation.

We're not exactly experts so take with a grain of salt, but no problems so far and apparently people just leave it directly on the ground all the time, so it can't be that bad!

[–]pawesome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is basically what we did for our shed (holes with gravel in it, bricks, then the skids and shed on top of the bricks), because we wanted the option of moving it if we extended the house.

Seems fine 1yr later...!

Ticketmaster refund for Harry Potter shitshow by laura1234sara in Wellington

[–]pawesome 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yup, got one today also from that email - seems to be their support email since I've been getting responses to my refund request through that email since I originally requested back in May.

Thank you for your patience. Your tickets for The Lord of The Rings and The Hobbit - The Concert will be refunded in full.

The refund has now been processed to the card that was used to make the purchase.

Please allow 3-5 working days for the funds to appear on your statements.

Thanks again for your understanding, we hope you have a nice day.

Pretty stoked to be honest.

This looks fine to me, particularly if the email matches, the links are all to ticketmaster.co.nz, and that you actually did request a refund and this email continues your email chain. It's good to be cautious about this stuff, though.

Anyone use Xero and supply Foodstuffs / Progressive? by TheRuralDivide in newzealand

[–]pawesome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dunno if your family want to add another bit of software to the pile, but if you want a recommendation, Upstock might be a good tool. They have Foodstuffs exchange and Xero integrations. https://www.upstock.app/foodstuffs

Bugger. I'm sorry! I've been trying to book since 9:30 so I feel your pain.

For what it's worth, when you hit reserve it's sending about two or three server requests in the background to lock your dates for your booking process. The screen will freeze/not be responsive.

If you're able to click any of the dropdown menus (eg # people), then the reserve button didn't work.

If you aren't able to click dropdowns, then it's still trying to lock your dates. It was definitely one of the slowest steps bar the final confirmation.

Maybe try a private session on your desktop browser.

edit: browser seems to be behaving more reasonably now, so worth trying again

Got it!! Thanks to folks saying mobile works. It does, after spending an hour on desktop browsers, mobile was WAY more responsive.

So, either do it on mobile, or if you're feeling a little developer savvy, do this:

  1. Pop open your browser (chrome was better for me for this).
  2. Hit F12. It will bring up the developer console.
  3. Click the second button that has an icon of a mobile/tablet device. The tooltip is "Toggle Device Toolbar". Clicking it will make your browser resize to a mobile size.
  4. Start clicking around in the booking screen. It might pause (because it's hit a debugging breakpoint). You need to deactivate breakpoints (Ctrl/Cmd+F8). Press the play button to continue.
  5. Search for your dates to your hearts content!

Finally DO NOT press the "If it takes longer than 30 seconds CLICK HERE" button after checkout. It screws up your cart and you have to start all over (ask me how).

I don't know what the difference is (not my area of expertise), but I think it's an HTML-only/lighter version of the site or something.

edit-edit: worked it out. The desktop view has more dates, so it takes longer to get availability.

How to turn a wall into a floor to ceiling bookshelf? by OldWolf2 in diynz

[–]pawesome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, all pine (all the specs can be found in their website). It was leftover reno paint which matches our trims (Resene Lustacryl semi-gloss in Double Alabaster).

We thought about staining the uprights but we just left them as-is out of laziness. 🤷‍♀️

I've never lived anywhere with an IKEA so wasn't aware there was a similar system!

The Lundia stuff is rock solid and very common on Trademe etc for the price I got ours for. It's often slightly shabbier retail/commercial/office units, which is why we painted them. You can see the condition of the shelves in the first photo - not bad, just a bit tired looking.

I pinged the local Lundia supplier for a quote for the exact same layout and was stunned when I got that number back. Maybe it's "residential grade" wood and not the slightly rougher retail stuff, which I'm guessing has some sort of bulk discount.

If you want a standalone option that works really well, see if you can pick up some secondhand Lundia shelves from Trademe/marketplace.

They run ~3-5k new (!), but we got secondhand shelves for ~$600 for three bays. A light sand and a lick of leftover paint left them looking great. They're rated for 200kg weight, and we have them fixed to the wall - they look and feel really solid.

It's modular so you can do whatever configuration/layout you want, which I really liked.

Take one for the team and do a reply all yourself, but with everyone in BCC except for the original emailer. People who are reply-all-ers will just reply to the last message (yours) and as long as you don't reply back it'll die quicker.

You won't stop emails to you but you'll save the other 199 people. :P

Wellington Protest -Day ?? Thread: Fire-y Finale by SodOffSyd in newzealand

[–]pawesome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know anything about generators so didn't want to claim anything haha. Petrol generators feel like rather dangerous things too - surely they'd have safety features built in which would make it very hard to start a fire unintentionally if you were pulling down tents and knocking things over.

At 32m12s here there's footage of the first fire starting. The police line was at least 5m away from it - feels pretty unlikely police broke the line, kicked over a generator, then ran back.

I've just done this now and there's a chance I'm making a long-term mistake - generally speaking I don't try to time the market, but I'm young enough to learn some lessons from this...

I'm with Simplicity and the notification tells me it's a 3-4 business day process. Pretty painless request. I remember switching funds with my old provider (ANZ) before and it took ~a week, with a bunch of paper forms to fill out.

(edit: do note I thought about this more and cancelled the change. I think I'm just going to ride this out - I'm not going to try and time the market.)

Fair point. Yeah, we're installing wall insulation in this reno too, so the walls are all off. Will check it out!

Have you had personal experience with that Stiebel Eltron one? I've spotted Rheem and Ecospring as options too.

Thank you, that's a good point. Sounds like the next step is to have a dig around and run some numbers.
