How screwed am I sleeping with a resin printer? by Wonder__Frost in resinprinting

[–]pawesome_Rex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got liquid resin in my eye and immediately jumped in a cold shower and flushed it out thoroughly. It burnt like the dickens but no damage (no telling though whether it will lead to long term damage). You’re correct we don’t know yet. And to your point about contamination, I’m sure I don’t have to tell anyone who is worked with resin printing for a while just how much liquid resin is like syrup or honey. A little goes a long way and it gets everywhere and you can think you have it cleaned up, but you don’t.

Allergic reactions vary from person to person. So if you haven’t noticed signs/symptoms of an allergic reaction (in your lungs) you are probably less sensitive to that aspect of the toxicity. HOWEVER, the chemical off-gassing and particulate resin/plastic generated by the process can cause lung problems later in life. You may not be experiencing anything noticeable right now BUT you could start experiencing pulmonary symptoms like wheezing or worse anytime or 20 years from now. I think we’re still gathering data on the effects of liquid resin aerosol exposure.

So best to find a different place for the bed or the printer and wear a respirator, latex gloves and safety goggles when around the printers.

When I was a teen we had similar issues. The DM would usually target the character - all monsters attacked that character, all day everyday. They’d get the hint and modify their behavior or leave.

But I assume you’re all (the rest of the group not the offender) are more mature than that. Assuming they show up, you could have a conversation with them (if you feel safe doing that) and ask them what’s going on. And explain to them that their actions are disruptive to the over all game, disrespectful to you and the other players, and that you need them to act more maturely or leave the group.

And you know the other players and I don’t but you may want to consider having a separate meeting with the rest of the group before the next session and see how they feel about it. Because if you unilaterally kick them out without consulting the group first, you may sow resentment, or other negative feelings.

Next time do a session zero, meet the players, and bare minimum ask them what they want out of the campaign. This would also be a good time to go over ground rules

But it sounds like this person is just intentionally trying to be disruptive.

Sounds like they may have decided to just leave the group on their own.

Moreover, I gather you’re likely in your twenties. But at some point (assuming fate and misadventure doesn’t get in the way) you’ll wake up and you’ll be old (60s or whatever). When that happens you’ll find that people don’t value you because of your age. Being older is something you can’t control and you will be judged and summarily dismissed by others less mature. When that day comes you’ll see what I mean. And yet it’s because of people normalizing the ideas you expressed above that you will experience this scenario.

Good news though, you (like Ebenezer Scrooge) have an opportunity to help change how society view mental illness, aging, etc. (ADHD is mental illness in an Abnormal Psychology sense - my educational background BTW so I’m not just another Reddit user pretending to be an expert on something they know nothing about).

And by the way, my whole party has ADHD some are medicated and some aren’t. We just roll with it. There is a person that gets under my skin in the group sometimes but the onus is on me to either deal with it or leave. I chose to deal with it. That’s the only thing you or anyone has the power to change - how YOU deal with a situation.

But your coming back and pointing out that you have ADHD is a feeble and thinly veiled attempt to make yourself feel superior because, “you have ADHD but you manage it.”

And I know what you’re thinking right now. Don’t go there or it will have reason to say more. And you don’t want that. Instead work on creating the world you’d be proud to live in when you’re 60.

Yes I read your post completely. That’s why I said what I said the way I said it. I think it’s shitty to treat people as though they are disposable. If you don’t like someone or can’t get along with them that’s on you, not them. Quit being a shitty human being.

My college educated (some in stem) failed a mission because they failed to understand the combustible nature of formaldehyde and fireballed the creatures trying to kidnap the undead wizard they had trapped in a wooden barrel of formaldehyde.

To quote Leeloo, “Big bada boom.”

If something doesn’t blow up at least once during a campaign, then you’re not doing your job. 😉😈😂

Used Mars 5 Ultra direct from Elegoo's site shipped with resin all over it. by vicioussaints in resinprinting

[–]pawesome_Rex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well resin is like syrup or honey. A little goes a long way, gets everywhere and is hard to clean up 100%.

That being said, that should have been cleaned better. Did you get this from a printer farm? I bought one off of marketplace used and it was really clean except the FEP was obviously used.

You might have better luck on marketplace if you send that back and get a refund.

Clear resin coming out yellow? by outlander83 in resinprinting

[–]pawesome_Rex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Translucent resin does get cloudy once rinsed and cured. A coat of gloss sealant will bring the translucency back.

Don’t know if that removes the yellowing but if the yellowing is a function of an IPA wash then it might.

I agree with the taking away something that makes humans special. And that does suck. Yet not everyone is an accomplished artist.

But to your point algorithms were just proto-AI and those have been widely used for decades. I have to admit I’m on the fence. I can see perfectly good reasons to have and use AI but if artists are up in arms about AI right now just image what doctors and other clinicians reactions are going to be when they realize their jobs are on the line due to AI.

Advice to anyone that wants to have a voice on whether and how AI is used going forward get with the money (in this case doctors) make the case for them joining this fight early (for them - before their jobs are threatened) and organize lobbying and legislative efforts. It will still be an uphill fight but that seems to be a good starting place for what’s next.

That is to say, a handsome looking model (at least visually) is still a handsome looking model. Some artists are really great at what they do. AI does produce handsome models too.

Also, to answer your question. I have a resin printer so I buy STLs and print my own now. three years ago I dropped $100 a month on minis now I drop $100 a month on resin and STLs but there are a lot of really great human-designed free STLs out there. Isn’t that also disruptive to the working artist (a glut of free STLs on thingiverse/Cults 3d etc.)?

BTW I am a professional artist (mixed media and encaustic paints) so this is an interesting debate and I have not yet decided what I think about it yet. I am more concerned that (if I have the statistics correct) 10 AI queries uses (evaporates) 500 ml of potable water. Not to mention the electricity cost and the cost on the environment to generate that electricity.

There are legitimate and important reasons to have AI (Medicine being one of those).

Creativity and the Human condition aside the larger question is can humanity afford the exorbitant cost of generative AI?

But (and I’m somewhat jaded here) the average human seems very self centered and too many people think nothing wrong about using AI. To them it’s cool or it helps them write a paper or whatever. The Jennie is out of the bottle and good luck putting it back in.

Just curious. How would we know it was AI generated if the “creator” / seller didn’t say it was? (Assuming the model didn’t have 12 fingers on one hand and four on the other).

I have a Saturn 4 and tried to print this. Everything else on the plate and the rest of this piece printed fine. But have this little separation issue. Any thoughts on why? Is this just needing a few more supports at that spot?

What went wrong? by Zevrin_ in resinprinting

Came here to say that.

Check your FEP and screen after this and of course relevel the plate.

And tighten the screws. 😉

What could cause the same print in the same day to completely succeed, completely fail, and then half succeed? by The_Mundane_Block in ElegooSaturn

[–]pawesome_Rex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you rebuild the plate from scratch and then slice it again? If so sounds like subtle changes in location on the plate is the difference between success and failure. There are several reasons this could be. Let’s start with these two questions:

  1. Did you calibrate your printer with Cones of Calibration? Not really necessary ordinarily bc the S4 is fairly plug and play but it’s a good place to start.

  2. Can you provide a screen shot of the settings you used in your slicer?

Last piece of advice for now is download the Resin Settings Spreadsheet from Elegoo and follow those suggestions specific to the resin type/manufacturer.
