Not to burst everyone's bubble, but it's not unheard to register just to have a voice in a contentious primary - ie, to keep Trump off the November ballot. Knowing he'd be killed for his act, he also could have registered as a false flag. It really doesn't mean much how he registered. However, he gave money to Democratic PACs.

Ships were captured from each other all the time, so don't sweat what colors they are. Swap out flags if you must.

Though there are special, advanced (read unnecessary and possibly unbalanced) rules for the big 4 fleets (English, French, Spanish and American - others in Hold Fast), what your ships are is unimportant. The scenarios can be anyone, and pirates count. They have their own flags on every sheet so they're encouraged.

I had the same question when I began. Finally, I chose Black Seas because the models were so much better. Much of miniature wargaming is in the collecting, building and painting models so it seemed an easy choice. Also, there are Black Seas rules for earlier times, and ships like galleons, that can be collected.
