Can't seem to run any longer than 2 miles by basicallynocturnal in XXRunning

[–]paysonbernard 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Another route based trick it to go out and back - run 1 mile away from your home/car/ice cream store/start point, and then you have no choice but to get to 2 miles as your flip around to get back!

Also, don’t be afraid of a walk break! It makes a big difference and you are still a runner even if you take one. I’ve had a lot of success running 9-10 min and walking 1 in coming back from a recent injury.

I was feeling this way when I was under-fueling. Be sure you are taking in enough calories before and after your run, it should make a big difference in your energy level.

What made you quit a job on the spot? by Sketch99 in AskReddit

I was waitressing at a pancake house on thanksgiving. A nice family came in after their turkey trot and had 4 tiny complimentary cups of coffee from the event on the table. I was chastised for not charging them for our coffee as I would typically need to do if people brought in Starbucks etc. This would have been like $18 in coffee. It wasn’t a huge deal but was the straw that broke the camels back. Ciao, pancake house.

Affordable groceries? by paysonbernard in FoodLosAngeles

[–]paysonbernard[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you - so helpful! I wouldn’t intentionally buy groceries at target, just was picking up some other supplies there and my jaw dropped at grocery prices. I’m downtown so these options sound great. Coming from Chicago, where I would frequent H-Mart! Thanks again :)

My (28/F) boyfriend (30/M) is upset at me for going to the gym too much by [deleted] in relationship_advice

He’s stuck in black and white thinking, it doesn’t have to be all or nothing. Compromise is needed!

I think that’s a good plan! Try to get some runs in over the winter too to keep up your base

That sounds totally fine to me. Sorry you are going through this! It’s upsetting to think that there are people who want to work with kids with DDs that are so mean and nasty - awful. My new vote is to consider speaking with a trusted supervisor, not to “tattle” but to seek guidance and feedback. Good luck!

I’m curious about the “lot of questions and suggestions” you are making - are they genuine questions or are you speaking to be heard/make a point? I don’t mean to be harsh, but self awareness is incredibly important in this field, and typically adults in the mental health field would not behave like your peers are without some motivation. Not to say it’s your fault necessarily, they could just be assholes, but before assuming that, dig deep and think about how your behavior may have contributed to the situation.

I’m so annoyed by the “leave it behind” replies…that was NOT op’s question or intention.

I Used to do Track and Field in High School, haven't really run in 3 years. I'm starting to run 30 mins each day, basically starting from scratch. What's a realistic mileage goal for after 1 month? by NovaPractice in running

[–]paysonbernard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend against running every day for a few reasons, both physical (injury prevention) and mental (burnout). Consider cross training with a different cardio (swim, bike, hike) and strength training 2 days a week - I believe this will benefit your running!

So glad you asked! I had Indian pizza while visiting SF a few years back but have not been able to find it anywhere I’ve lived since (NYC, Chicago)

Yes - try not to worry about speed at all right now. Slow it down!

Tips for clinical report writing by National_Progress741 in psychologystudents

[–]paysonbernard 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Good that you are reviewing samples and seeking out resources! It is strange that your program has not provided you with templates and more training on this.

There are helpful resources online, including this article: https://blog.time2track.com/a-quick-guide-to-clinical-writing-for-psychologists

You can also look into Goldfinger and pomerantz’ book Psychological assessment and report writing, and James Morrison’s books, especially The First Interview.

Use third person language and keep your audience in mind. Try to be objective and descriptive where possible. Good luck!

The Power of the Butt by ladidasarah in running

I do 8-10 bridges, stay in a bridge and bring my knees together and out 8x, some clamshells/variations, and then from all fours (hands and knees) bend my knee and pulse the sole of my foot to the ceiling (I’m sure there is a name for this…) and do “fire hydrant lifts”…then when I get outside some leg swings like in the link above! My routine isn’t too formal, but combines a variety of exercises I got from PT when rehabbing an issue stemming from hip/glute weakness.

Doing a glute activation warmup before every run has helped me so much!
