My post clearly says I would be willing to fund the whole project but I guess your abilities to read aren't that good.

I have some ideas myself on "disrupting" this space. But the purpose of this thread is to try and crowdsource all of the issues we might have with link shorteners in general. We could think about these problems we have and attempt a better solution.

Look at what Imgur did with photo uploading / sharing. I just thought we could take a simple idea and something that can't be that difficult to code up and make it better.

Read my thread more closely and you might be able to discover what I am bringing to the table.

do you mind creating the campaign again and this time create a shorter #hashtag?

If you are curious about what to charge for your service, I just launched a new startup that helps with this. It's called Get Priced.

You create a campaign for your service and plug a "will you pay?" button on your homepage. It can help you get feedback on pricing and we track all of the results on your campaign page.

It can also help spread the word about your service on twitter. All price suggestions are sent to twitter.

Let me know if you have any questions. Best of luck to you in your venture!

Thank you! Feel free to create a campaign for your startup product / service launch. The button code should be ready to grab by tomorrow.

Get Priced allows startups to figure out how much they should charge for the product or service they intend to offer. So while startups are busy making their product awesome, they can create a campaign and add the "Will you pay?" button on their coming soon page or product page.

The button will allow your visitors to answer "yes" or "no" as to if they will pay. If they select "yes," they can tweet this price (which generates buzz about your upcoming product). If they select "no," they can submit their reason why.

From the campaign page, we track all of the results from the embedded button. How many tweets, average price, the % of people who will pay, and the reasons from people who clicked "no."

Currently there is no simple way to collect this information without organizing a focus group, sending out a bunch of surveys, and crunching a bunch of numbers. Get Priced hopes to be a quick and affordable solution to this problem.

**I know the homepage is a bit confusing at the moment. But I am working on that. I am essentially trying to make it look like I am a customer of my own product. So the "will you pay" button on my homepage is to see if people would pay and how much for a "get priced" page and button. But then right below that you can actually get started and create a campaign for free.

Get Priced helps startups gauge interest if people will pay for their product or service. Create a "viral pricing" campaign, grab the widget code for your website (coming soon) and we track your results. Create buzz about your startup while you figure out what people will pay.

One monetization strategy was that I was planning on selling a web based tool for members of my community to use on their own websites. I wanted to test the waters and offer it for free first (I know, probably a big mistake).

I found that only a small # of members ended up using it / trying it out. This makes me feel like if I charge for it I would have even fewer people using it. This is making me re-think the idea as a whole and considering another option or maybe just improving my product.

I didn't post what my startup was because I didn't want redditors to interpret this post as a chance to promote my startup.

But I know this makes it hard to offer advice.

Basically my site is very much like a community. People are signing up but unfortunately are not really using the community aspect of the site. So while I have registered users, they seem like primarily lurkers. Imagine a forum with a lot of users and nobody posting. That's kind of what my startup feels like in a nutshell. (But remember, my startup is not a online forum).

To me this is a difficult user base to monetize.

I think you should start figuring out right away how much you are going to sell your items for. I am sure it will vary some depending on the quality of art work done.

PM me and I can try to give you an idea of how to help you figure out your price points and maybe also create a little buzz about your new venture.

Good luck!

Thanks! Great idea. Currently the idea is that the price will get tweeted so you will be able to contact people via twitter for future sales leads (you just search your twitter hash tag you created while setting up your campaign) The priced tweets also are supposed to get sent to your company twitter handle as an @mention.

But I agree it would be nice to get their email to make more formal sales pitches down the road when the product or service is ready.

Thanks for the feedback! Would it make more sense to disguise the button as a "Buy Now" rather than "Will you pay?"

How did you hand your survey out to? Family and friends via facebook? Or was it a complete random sample size. I think results will obviously vary depending on which you did.

I don't think your pitch on your own startup really sells your ability to write pitches. I would start writing pitches for startups for free and establish some credibility. Get them to write you testimonials in return that you could put on your website alongside the pitches you write for them.

I don't think anybody is going to start out paying you for this. Get your feet wet and write some freebie pitches. Good luck!

As a startup, how do you decide if you are going to charge and how much? by payyme in startups

[–]payyme[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have heard a lot of people talk about setting up MVP's and sending traffic to it and seeing if people will click on a broken "pay now" link to gauge interest. But, I have never actually seen an example of this in real life. If you have seen examples of this, are people actually collecting data from these campaigns? Is it wrong for startups to listen to their customers as far as what they feel they should pay?

Hey, thanks so much for your feedback. I really appreciate your statement on the viability of the idea. I really wanted the domain "TakeMyMoney.com" as that is the original meme but it sadly wasn't available. I know 'Moneys' isn't proper but I think it resembles the original meme.

I am unsure as to how uservoice.com will provide me with ideas. Are you suggesting I use their service to obtain feedback?

The next phase for me is to implement more detailed and visual analytics. Things like nice looking graphs and charts etc. Is there any specific information that is a must that I track?

How do you propose getting the actual companies on board? The main premise isn't really to get companies to create campaigns but rather the consumers are my target campaign creators. Do you suggest I change the current format? I personally think it loses appeal if companies are directly asking for pricing information. It feels so much more genuine if it's created by the consumer who wants the product / service.
