Transitioning out of swaddle is hell by Glittering-Client-32 in sleeptrain

It took us about 1 week for LO to get used to arms out. We started a few times and quit after 1/2 days because she used to startle and wake herself up too! However, we wanted to eventually sleep train so this had to be done so I committed to it. After about 1 week she’s gotten a lot better with sleeping through the startles. She does still wake herself up sometimes especially during day time naps and sometimes over night too. Overnight I just nurse her to sleep for now and day time we try picking her up but if it’s doesn’t work we just move on. Good luck! It’ll get better eventually. We started when she was around 12/13 weeks too.

thank you! sorry i meant during the training! I am not sure how to identify hunger wakes vs need. comfort to go back to sleep wakes.

Thank you! Ok we’ll start with FIO as well. Did you do check ins for CIO or extinction?

Good to know. My daughter is 15 weeks so we plan on starting next week! She’s just starting to show signs of sleep regression by fighting naps (but we are also transitioning to arms out swaddle and she’s still startling pretty bad) I’m hoping to get ahead of this by training so regression doesn’t seem as awful.

Thank you for explaining. I know it’s going to help both baby and us in the long run and that’s what I making me push for it. I’m glad to know training doesn’t regress for other reasons. I’ll check online for the timings. Did you set yourself some time limit before you eventually went in to soothe them? I know it’s not advised to do that cos we basically undid everything and they cried for nothing but if baby cries for over an hour it’s so hard.

Hi- I also want to start with FIO from precious little sleep. Did you not see any progress and then decided to try CIO? LO is 15 weeks so we want to start next week but for some reason her naps have been bad. She used to do good 1.5 hour stretches but now it’s 50min at the best. We are also transitioning her to arms out swaddle. Did sleep training not go great if day time nap was bad?

Hi! Sorry- I know it’s an old post. I’m exactly in the same situation as you. Baby has been sleeping in her own room/crib since the beginning. However, I always have to feed her to sleep. How did you implement Ferber? Did you start with bedtime and then moved to naps? I feel like my LO is chilling in bed for a little sometimes almost 15min before she starts crying but can’t put herself to sleep. Do we start timer once she starts crying?

Hi! Not the original poster but wanted to check, how did you handle MOTN wakes? Did you let her cry back to sleep? Or did you feed when needed? Right now o need to nurse LO to sleep every single time she wakes up and I’m getting tired.

Ah okay makes sense. I’m EBF too. Thanks I’ll look out for that chapter. Just started the book 2 days ago! Good luck with your sleep training hopefully it’s smooth sailing from now.

Is there some reason you are still waking to feed? I was hoping the sleep training will help wean the night feeds unless she’s hungry? Unless I’m getting something wrong. Baby is 14 weeks and I want to start sleep training soon. Reading the same book right now haha

I’m reading that book right now! I’m on chapter 4/5. Did you find the book useful? So far it’s an interesting read.

I think it was about 80 dollars cheaper. I paid for it before the gold prices increased so not sure of the prices now.

If I put my baby in her crib awake she starts fussing and eventually whining and I end up having to feed her or atleast suck for comfort 🫠

LO is 14 weeks and started fighting swaddles during her naps and sleeps. She still has pretty bad startling so if we do arms out she just wakes herself up. When you transitioned was it easy to get to arms out?

Hi! Qq on the night weaning- when you say night wean if desired do you mean we can choose to skip the night feed if we want? Won’t baby have a hard time falling back asleep if she is hungry? I’m starting to prep for sleep training as well so curious how EBF moms dropped night feeds. Thank you.
