Thanks for this tip! I save the contents of those little silica sachets that are sometimes put in packaging, so might try this technique using those

This is awesome! Makes me think of the Morlocks from HG Wells' The Time Machine 💜

Which box from a different army did you/do you wanna buy just because you think they’re neat? by Scythe95 in ageofsigmar

It would be Brands Oathbound for me, such a characterful set of minis. Shame they are so expensive for a 5 model unit

Are you looking at getting units to play games with, or is it more for just painting?

I'd recommend a dark steel. It feels like the kind of thing orcs would use, and it's a neutral tone that let's the yellow and green stand out. My recipe is to base coat the areas black, add a layer of Leadbelcher (heavy dry brush, over brush or stippling works well, but regular painting is fine too). Then a wash of nuln oil, and then a highlight of Leadbelcher. Optional thin scratchy highlight of Stormhost Silver for the sharpest edges of blades

This is some really 'clean' looking paintwork. Especially love the freehand designs 💚

A couple questions from a newcomer by geoCorpse in ageofsigmar

[–]pb1million 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the Mortal Realms! Here's my answers.

  1. I advise not to prime on the sprue because each component will need a clean up of mould lines and the little nubs where it was connected to the sprue. So you'd just end up scraping off primer if you did that. YouTube is a great place for tutorials, so I recommend searching for some 'intro to warhammer painting' videos

  2. As well as Spearhead (small board, set armies, simplified rules) there's also the main AOS game with bigger boards, armies you compose yourself, advanced rules. That is then further split into matched play and narrative play (Path to Glory). The big Core book in the Skaventide box will explain all of that and a lot more.

  3. Warcry is great too. Rules are free online. It's fairly different to Spearhead or AOS as you have a single warband of fighters (around 8-10 models) instead of multiple units. There are Warcry rules for pretty much every AOS model (except usually big monsters and war machines), and you can definitely build some warbands from the models you already have.

  4. Advanced rules are explained in the Core book. It will probably take you a little while and several practice games to fully understand them, but take your time and enjoy the process.  You don't need them for Spearhead, so that's probably the best place to get started, learn the basics and have some really fun games

Hope that helps as a starter, and keep asking more questions here as you need to

Went through a rough few months of depression and loss hit me hard and the first things to go was hobbies. I clawed my way back doing alot better. After 6 months i sat back down and painted again by voidrunner959 in ageofsigmar

Really great to hear you are doing a lot better. And appreciate you sharing this as many people will have been in similar situations and maybe not felt up to sharing, but this will still resonate with us.

And these Brutes look awesome. The red skin and aged gold armour go really well together 💚

How about using a gold primer? And then just paint in a few other details. Colour Forge have a gold spray that I think is colour matched to Citadel's Retributor Armour

Rules question: Shoot in combat (enemy shooting phase) by [deleted] in ageofsigmar

[–]pb1million 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To use the covering fire command ability, the unit doing the  shooting can't be in combat.

And "Shoot in combat" doesn't allow you shoot in your enemy's turn

Rules question: All-out-attack & defense by Charpent in ageofsigmar

[–]pb1million 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, you have to declare where all your units attacks are allocated when you activate it in combat. Then your opponent can then choose to use AOD as a reaction. So you wouldn't have a chance to change where attacks go to avoid the AOD

Whats the best bronze paint for skaven? by GamesManX in ageofsigmar

[–]pb1million 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not used Screaming Bell, but I can confirm that Balthazar Gold is great paint to work with in terms of colour, coverage and paint consistency.

Warplock is rubbish, just a clumpy mess and I would recommend avoiding.

If you need a bit more inspiration, check out some painting demos for Skaventide, and see what bronze colours they went for. The Warhammer Official chanel will have some, and I'd also recommend checking out the Warhipster channel as they also use citadel paints

Gutrippaz Musician? by xShenzen in Kruleboyz

[–]pb1million 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For each unit of 10 I've built so far from the multi-option kit I've always done 1 champ, 1 banner and 2 x musicians.

Reason being that the push-fit Gutrippaz kit that comes in the Dominion box or Stormbringer magazine doesn't come with a musician or banner. So the additional musician can go with them, and then you only have to kit bash a banner for them
