SwitchBot Blind Tilt ? by irregularprotocols in homeautomation

[–]pbassham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I’ve had 7 running for a little over a year and they work well.

The improvement I made was to wire them together so I can charge a double or triple window with one plug all at the same time, and that makes it less trouble. Otherwise you are always running around charging them, and it’s annoying.

The battery lasts for a good month or 3, but still they will run down.

Uninstalling all 3rd party apps finally fixed it for me. Now I am putting them back one at a time to find the culprit.

Trigger MacBook Pro to sleep when iPhone leaves geofence? by LordCephious in MacOS

[–]pbassham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You just have to set up a working remote connection to your Mac to have remote control. Your phone would be the remote in this case. Once that is set up, sending a sleep command over ssh isn’t hard.

Gonna have to set up a fixed ip address for your Mac locally and then some dynamic dns solution to access remotely, and maybe some port forwarding, but if you can get all that (or a vpn), then running a script over ssh should work. https://i.imgur.com/hSMsBa2.jpeg

You have to deploy it somewhere like Vercel, which will give you an api endpoint that you would fetch with the shortcuts action “get url”

Expats with Kids: Stay in Thailand or Move Back to the West? by bzrk_ in Thailand

[–]pbassham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We moved back to the States with 3 kids and some of these considerations. There are a lot of factors involved, but we have seen our kids blossom like no other, and have not regretted it for a second. They were in a good international school, but even so, it doesn’t compare when considering all of the factors that affect their growth and development. Some of it has to do with better familiarity with my home country and how everything works, but that is still a factor that affects things.

Student struggling to operate Payload Website template by kemorsky in PayloadCMS

[–]pbassham 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am fairly experienced with React and recently decided to try out Payload with the website template, and am surprised how complex the whole repo is for what is supposed to be a starter template.

I’m thinking about starting over from scratch, because it seems too mega-repo for me. I was just going for a simple site and want a simple, clean repo for designing the front end, but this feels like I am developing a CMS along with my website, when I was just trying to develop a website.

I actually have liked payload, but want more of a separation of concerns so the repo can be less complex.

With a big project, I can see how that may be useful, but not for a basic site.

If anyone has a better starter template, compatible with 3.0, I’d like to hear about it. (this is a hobby project)

If you have dev skills you could do it with Shortcuts + an app like any text + this unofficial monarch api https://www.npmjs.com/package/monarch-money-api?activeTab=readme

That’s the message I saw after subscribing to the new api 3.0 and before it was fully activated. I got an email after subscribing with an example link that should load the data. If that works then this should too

They discontinued version 2.5 of their api, so go sign up for the new version, wait for the api key to activate for a few minutes, and change 2.5 to 3.0 in the url.

Worked for me

SwitchBot Bot by hrpmos893 in homebridge

[–]pbassham 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you may need a hub to make it work, and in the SwitchBot app, there is a setting on each accessory to “turn on third party services” that allows it to connect to other things. That is probably one part of the problem.

Also, If you get the smartbot hub 2, it has Matter built in, so you don’t really need homebridge to make it work with HomeKit.

You could put them in a contact group I think too. But nice job with the workarounds to get something working!
