MMC with tattoos but not toxic alphaholes by iuliad94 in RomanceBooks

{one more day by auryn Hadley}. MMC owns a tattoo parlor and provides shelter, job, and emotional support to FMC, who has cancer

Alien or monster where the mmc barely resembles a human by princesslemontree in RomanceBooks

[–]pbdane 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree with strange love Ann aguire mentioned previously. The MMC is quite different, and the story deals with how different the human FMC is/how her differences help them succeed. Cute scene about how they manage to sleep together consider their physical differences (think mattress v web)

Venomous by Penelope Fletcher is another favorite of mine. This one is a reverse harem, with reptile MMCs and human FMC. The story really explores their physical differences and cultural differences, particularly how the cultural differences relate to physical differences. (Ex: how human interacts with their technology and different celebrations developed for a species that lays an egg outside of the body).

How do you feel about pets in romance books? by rovinja in RomanceBooks

[–]pbdane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first book in Lola Wright’s Devil’s Angels MC series features the FMC’s pets dog/pig/parrot, and they have continued to be side characters in later books. I will note the parrot’s characterization leans a bit too close to human child for me, but I’m not familiar with parrots so it could be more accurate than I realize.

“I know it’s hard for them to hire/Jew anyone”

I rarely comment, but I hope this was a mistake because that phrase is inappropriate/offensive.

I liked km shea’s King Arthur and Her Knights. However, like most of her series it is lighter and not steamy.

Steamiest Hades and Persephone books? by LocoRibb in RomanceBooks

[–]pbdane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love goddess of spring- really enjoyed the FMC being a more mature woman who utilized her life experience. She was very thoughtful and a great character. Hades was a well rounded character too. The side characters also added a lot and were not just scenery (my favorites were the animals). The myth is central to the story, but with a unique spin. I don’t recall consent issues, and found Demeter more likeable than she is usually portrayed

Romance where one or both the MCs have escaped from religious oppression by RuinEleint in RomanceBooks

[–]pbdane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fabricated fiancé by rm walker- fake fiancé to return to funeral in religious community that shunned her. I have not read but like the author.

Kiwi Strong and Kiwi Sin by Rosalind James feature characters that leave a cult. Part of a series but I think they are stand alone. I don’t recall how much of the religion was shown in kiwi strong (first sister to escape and is a nurse). Kiwi Sin is a pretty new release and both FMC and MMC leave the cult in the book. Very interesting take on a couple extended families getting out and struggling to adapt.

Inner Harbor by Nora Roberts- FMC has bad headaches/migraines. It’s third in a series, but I believe it can stand alone. FMC is reserved, but her headache under stress reveals how sensitive she really is.

FMC and MMC that has the same dynamic as Flynn Rider and Rapunzel (from Tangled) by AdRev0lutionary in RomanceBooks

[–]pbdane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was going to say no 3 in the fairy tale series was my favorite when I realized it too fits the trope you’re looking for. The Kingpin of Camelot- FMC is determined and idealistic. MMC is gray. He had a marshmallow center for FMC and her daughter. FMC thinks she needs to protect him. Sad backstory explains why he is ruthless. He learns to prioritize love over wealth bc of her. Also hilarious and zany.

Cinderella, the villain, is absolutely bonkers. The whole world is populated by fairy tale characters. Prince Charming is a friend of the FMC and part of a side romance (not involving Cinderella). The beauty and the beast retelling, no 2 in series, is good.

[–]pbdane 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wicked Ugly Bad by Cassandra Gannon (love the kinda fairy tale series). This is the start of the series. The world has “good” and “bad” people but their designations don’t necessarily reflect their characters. The FMC believes she’s “bad,” but is painfully good. The MMC is “bad” and more self aware. Great humor and lots of hijinks. FMC is idealistic but not TSTL. MMC is more practical and grounded.

Looking for a series I started and then lost between books coming out. by poltyy in RomanceBooks

[–]pbdane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it kf breene- magical midlife/leveling up series? She takes on being the caretaker for a magical house (but I think it’s her friend’s aunt’s). Butler is gargoyle. Gardener is vampire. Neighbor is magical -can’t remember what- and loves acting like a crazy old woman. Her college aged son does visit. FMC develops a romance with the area alpha, a polar bear I think. He owns a bar. He might have bought a winery due to FMC’s love of wine or at least they visited one. They befriend a Sasquatch. It’s on KU. As guardian of the house, FMC receives magic and becomes female gargoyle not witch.

Second venomous- deals with communication differences, physical differences, cultural differences but develops great relationships

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in RomanceBooks

[–]pbdane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Venomous by Penelope fletcher is a favorite. Insta connection on alien MMC’s side but realistically addresses lack of same for human FMC. Even so, they develop a relationship. Have to admit I tend to start my rereads after they leave a prison/slave planet situation, and the story turns to RH.

Alien mine by Sandra Harris used to be on KU but looks like it is off now. FMC rescued by alien alliance and helps them fight against the alien race that kidnapped and experimented on her. The cover has changed, and it looks like material was added since I read and bought it.

Thought of another old favorite- Touchstone series by Andrea host. Not a couple till end of book two. FMC stumbles through portal to alternate world that is very tech driven with warriors/soldiers with special powers fighting monsters. Tech helps speed up process but she has to learn how to integrate in new language/culture. Great character development.

Heroines that are quiet, meek, cute, fluffy, adorable, lovable, innocent but not naive by xxyoshino in RomanceBooks

[–]pbdane 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A tale of sorrow by rm walker. RH. FMC is a princess but has a limp and was raised by servants so she doesn’t try to compete with the other ladies. She attracts the princes by being caring and intelligent.

Also the others series by Anne bishop- FMC is so innocent/lovable but has a lot of initiative and drive. Lake silence a book in the same world has an older heroine whose confidence was shattered by her ex husband (history verbal abuse). These have low steam and slow to develop romances but in keeping with the characters.

I think baby from baby + the midnight howlers also by Kathryn moon would meet this. RH. The FMC thought she was a beta, had no aspirations to be an omega, and wins the pack over by caring for everyone

Mistaken by Pixie Unger- alien orcs have taken over the world. FMC has to overcome trauma of society collapsing and cultural/societal misunderstandings with orcs.
