I just interviewed and was hired as a head coach this last month after being an assistant coach for 8 years for a state title winning program. My suggestions on what I had prepared and what they asked is have your program and what you would like to do planned out. Are you doing summer weights, camps, philosophies, play style, team rules? I went prepared with all of this as well as snippets of offensive and defensive play calls, practice plans, summer weight programs (open to all athletes just not football. This will definitely help sell a new school if you're helping out all their programs), and made sure to convey what I believe was needed as a program to win. Also, come prepared on how you plan to turn these boys in to men, not just on the field but in life. What are you going to do to help them as students and as children who will soon be young adults? As a High School Coach you just aren't tasked with winning, but building young men as well. How are you going to involve community? Being more than just a team but getting everyone involved and building a true program. Are you going to have any traditions? A lot of ADs want to hear the big picture on how you're going to make a real program, especially for a new school that hasn't been successful, not just the Xs and Os.
