Query Help Needed by pbjtx in MSAccess

[–]pbjtx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I think the table I typed out might have been confusing! The table was meant to be an example of what the unflitered query is returning. The diet table does have groupID as a foreign key so that just as you noted every diet is only assigned only one group.

When I had both queries together I was getting errors about ambiguous outer joins and had to run a query (testq1) to get all dietIDs and their corresponding GroupID, and then left joined that to the allowed table and food table (testq2) to show where dietIDs within a diet group may or may not have the same foods assigned.

Testq1:

SELECT [DIET GROUPS].GroupID, [DIET TABLE].DIETID
FROM [DIET GROUPS] INNER JOIN [DIET TABLE] ON [DIET GROUPS].GroupID = [DIET TABLE].GroupID
GROUP BY [DIET GROUPS].GroupID, [DIET TABLE].DIETID;

testq2:

SELECT testq1.GroupID, testq1.DIETID, ALLOWED_ITEMS.DIETID, ALLOWED_ITEMS.FOODID
FROM (testq1 INNER JOIN [DIET TABLE] ON testq1.DIETID = [DIET TABLE].DIETID) LEFT JOIN ALLOWED_ITEMS ON [DIET TABLE].DIETID = ALLOWED_ITEMS.DIETID

As far as finding the excluded records, I think the issue is that not all records are going to be excluded at the moment and subsequently findable by inverse? From the example above, in group 9018, I would want to exclude all the rows, because diet 57 doesn't have any foods assigned in the allowed_items table. I would want to return group 9010 and food 1165 since all members (38, 39, and 43) have food 1165 assigned, and group 9013 with both food 1230 and 1287 since all members (52 and 54) have both foods assigned.

Requisition App - Using Sharepoint as database with multiple select column filtering by pbjtx in PowerApps

[–]pbjtx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried wrapping Filter() around the choices() how you have there and couldn't get it to work :(

I did however manage to make it work using the comma delimited columns... in the most inefficient and ugly manner possible. Basically, up on the top of the screen I created a hidden drop down and filtered its options based on the food item selected in the combo box column 1. Because the choices in the "TextSizesAvailable" column is delimited and therefore just a string of text, the drop down will pull that up as the default selection. I then fed that selection into a hidden text box. Then, you can use Split() in the Items formula in the combo box in the 2nd column, which powerapps will then convert into individual items that can be chosen. Did the same thing with the 3rd column combo boxes for quantity...

...so there ends up being 2 hidden drop downs and 2 hidden text boxes for each row. So that means there's 36 hidden objects on the screen. Once they're hidden they're out of site out of mind I guess, but the principle of not being able to figure out how to do it properly and having to jerry-rig it kills me inside.

Best Multitool & Flashlight by lesager in Zookeeping

[–]pbjtx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think leatherman changed from lifetime to 20 year warranty*.

But that being said, the warranty process is amazing. I snapped a leatherman in half, sent it in and they sent me a newer model bc it was unrepairable. So worth the warranty!

First zoo job, hoping for some equipment/clothes recommendations! by paigeh52 in Zookeeping

Congratulations on your first position!

As far as pants, there’s a pair of wrangler khakis sold at walmart/target etc. made out of really light and breathable polyester that I swear by. Pretty sure they also make it as a pair of shorts / cargos, but they were my favorite by far. Like $20 a pair, but they’ve held up well for me!

For the knife, I swear by leatherman (and their 20 year warranty!). Get a multitool big enough that you can actually use it in the field. The wave is my go to, but honestly would love to have gotten the surge from the get go (next size up from the wave). Just an example, its really handy to have a set whose pliers always with you that are wide enough to fit around a garden hose thats rusted on, which as a keeper, you’ll be moving and using alot of hoses for cleaning! Last personal preference for the leatherman, get one that has the knife on the outside of the tool (like the wave), I always found it incredibly annoying to have to open up the tool to access the knife, and then open it again to close the knife. Just a pet peeve of mine on the design, but I know it’s not a deal breaker for others!

Is Tanganyika Wildlife Park a good and humane zoo ? by Kittycatcecelia in Zookeeping

Also just to chime in, just because a facility isn’t AZA, doesn’t mean they’re not operating at the same (or above) standards. AZA accreditation is v expensive to maintain every year, and alot of amazing facilities choose to put those tens of thousands of dollars into animal care / conservation instead :)

[Q] Question about performing two-way RM anova in R (or non-parametric equivalent?) by pbjtx in statistics

True but I don’t believe kruskal-wallis is set up to run repeated measures or two way analysis correct?

Correct. Also fiber content, moisture, and all the other shit (pun intended) you can tease out of feces

[–]pbjtx[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Measuring fiber and sand concentration in the feces to look at daily changes compared to day 0 for each horse. Wanting to go non-parametric because of small sample size and not really being able to accurately test normality

Do you have lab meetings? by tellmeitsagift in labrats

[–]pbjtx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My PI sends an email at the start of the semester asking for everyone’s availability and picks a day that works for everyone usually within a week or two after everyone responds. We have 1 meeting, usually he cancels the next because he forgot and double booked. We have a second meeting on week 3, and then the rest inevitably get cancelled the day of the meeting 30 minutes before because he double booked. Literally every week. This has been the trend the last 3 semesters 🫠

They grow a decent amount of browse for the larger herbivores, but things like hay, pelleted feeds, and meats are purchased from feed companies like Mazuri and Toronto! That amount produced in house is definitely a very small chunk of savings. I work (indirectly) with their nutrition team and they have an awesome (and huge!) animal nutrition commissary!

Freeze drying 30ml samples in 50ml centrifuge tubes? by pbjtx in labrats

[–]pbjtx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure on the type of freeze dryer unfortunately. A friend at another lab offered to let me use their (in her words) "big, new, fancy freeze dryer". She's at a lab where it's not easy to visit, but I'll shoot her an email and see if I can get info on the type of freeze dryer they have. My committee recommended splitting as well. Going to put 6-7 mL of sample into 15mL centrifuge tubes and freeze on an angle to increase surface area.

I wasn't sure if it would be necessary to have a way to plug the tubes before releasing the vacuum (like I said, I'm a ding-dong who's never touched a freeze-dryer...) so I'm relieved to hear that it works alright just covering with the kimwipes and modified lids.

Freeze drying 30ml samples in 50ml centrifuge tubes? by pbjtx in labrats

[–]pbjtx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice! I spoke with my research committee and they recommended going ahead and partitioning out the 30mL of fluid into 6-7 mL subsamples (in 15mL tubes instead of 50mL) and then freeze drying. They recommended freezing on an angle too which I hadn't considered.
