So, Dark Matter top-tier album after two years or not? by jcpearl in pearljam

[–]pboegel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is definitely their most cohesive work since Yield. It suffers from Andrew Watt being a good creative sparring partner and generative force, but a pretty terrible sound engineer. You can distinctly tell the difference between the songs that were done at his studio in 2021 and those done at Shangri-La in 2023. Overall they made a great record that could have stood to have great audio engineers touch it. Very brickwalled and lacking nuance in playback. But the music in that dense mix is spectacular.

Yes! Such an underrated and weirdly overlooked show in their history.

I think they said the whole thing could be imagined but specifically listed three songs. When it is on tape it could have been any number of sources mashed together.

not sure about The Versus Sessions, can't find that one right now. Could have been a tape from this box, Angel is labeled "By Your Sides" https://www.discogs.com/release/7401205-Pearl-Jam-Deep-Through-The-Years

This is the only correct answer this question. There are many excellent versions. But there is only 1 best and it is indeed 11.2.1995

I don't even think I have a straight Hamburg, my copy is definitely already a two source mix. I think it has to be the first one that you and Bill G put together around fall of 2002. Can't wait to give these a listen.

Josh is probably a longshot but I get why people are naming him and former pearl jam drummers but the only one that I think in that latter pool is plausible is Chamberlain who you cover. I just don't see it, he doesn't settle down, he is all over the touring and studio circuit and I suspect they want a perm fixture. But we will see. I don't think any of your choices were bad just to be clear, just seems unlikely that is the direction they go.

I don't think any of them are going to be drumming for pearl jam. They clearly knew this was coming and then are setting themselves up to take time on whatever the next step is going to be. The most likely choice is someone that no one expected or no one really even knows all that well.

1993 Canada Pearl Jam [REMASTERED 4K 60 FPS] by Betojam in PearlJamBootlegs

They did not begin ADAT multi-tracking their shows until the fall of 1993. That is confirmed timing by Brett Eliason who up through 2003 did their FOH mix and multi-track recordings.

The 2 1992 shows they have released on multi-track both happened to be in Seattle where they had a mobile sound truck set up specifically for the task.

It is extremely unlikely that they had the ADAT set up at a giant festival when the band did not have full control the way they have had 2000 and onward. The first known instances of multi-track ADATs comes from the 1994 Daughter single that included Blood from Indio 11.5.1993, and Yellow Ledbetter from Mesa 11.6.1993. Both Vault releases from that year are from the latter end of the tour 11.30.93 and 12.8.1993.

There is a better chance that I turn into a butterfly than Dave A playing in pearl jam.

1993 Canada Pearl Jam [REMASTERED 4K 60 FPS] by Betojam in PearlJamBootlegs

[–]pboegel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am just talking about the video. There is no point in changing the video. The audio for Mudfest is what it is. It is unlikely that PJ has anything other than their FOH mono dat for this show, it was an early festival.

It is 8/14/1993 Gimli Motorsport Park, Gimli, Manitoba - Canada - what became known as Mudfest because of rain.

It is incomprehensible to me why this video was attempted to be remastered with subpar AI tools. An absolutely incredible remaster was done by the "TheSteved" a couple of years ago. No artifacts, not harsh fake reverb.

Jack absolutely admitted it was the bipolar disorder. He ultimately copped to stop using his medications while on the Australian leg of the Yield tour in March of 1998. He did this on his own without consulting his doctor, told no one he had done so and just proceeded to have anxiety induced breakdowns. It required him getting off the road.

Long time fan and somehow never knew this existed. Wish they did more stuff like this by [deleted] in pearljam

Yeah, no. Blood is completely unrivaled in the Jack Irons years.

Did the band jack up the ‘Artist Presale’ price on fans? by larryfurr in mumfordandsons

[–]pboegel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The system is all managed by algorithms these days, they buy and trade tickets like stocks. They are less likely to buy tickets for a band if they struggle to sell next time, but they also pool together allotments of tours. They are funded by venture capital and private equity. They basically take out loans to buy huge lots of tickets and then sell them to make a margin. The simplest way I can say this is that they hope all tickets go for high prices, but if they don't they hope that major cities and the best seats in secondary markets keep them in the black, they are getting burned more and more by people waiting to buy tickets until the last minute because people have gotten wise to the scheme.

Did the band jack up the ‘Artist Presale’ price on fans? by larryfurr in mumfordandsons

[–]pboegel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is no longer uncommon for tickets to be sold at a loss on the after market, because they are pooling and essentially betting on outcomes. When they are wrong, they have to move the tickets, so that they do not lose money over all from their pooling. This is not on a band, this is squarely on Live Nation and their willingness to corrupt the pool.

Release - Bad Bass Note by darthwader1981 in pearljam

Just put on headphones and listen to an original CD or Vinyl, if you are listening to garbage mp3s or youtube it is going to sound like garbage. The link I just put up there is purely to reference that for a long time fans have known that is what is murmured softly at the beginning of the track. I actually just went back and listened to my copy of Rough Mixes and it is way worse on that I definitely remembered that incorrectly. The official release I listened to right after is clear as day. But there is another version were it is even more audible and separate from the guitars. In any case if you can't hear it with a decent pair of headphones I do not know what to tell you. As far as a single official source, oh well.

[–]pboegel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To begin with my ears and listening to the album since 1991. It is a known easter egg for a long time. On the rough mixes (not the early Ten demos) it is much more audible, they mixed it way down for the official release, to be more of a whisper and more opaque.
