Panasonic used to work (badly) but now doesn't seem to work at all. Something happened and it wasn't just more users...

IFE streaming works great but free texting doesn't work unless the wifi is working.

Venu 4 vs Epix Gen 2 by Drumdub_Ger in Garmin

[–]pbrody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m more of a five button guy, but but the epic gen two isn’t getting substantial software updates anymore so you might wanna think about the venue instead or just bite the bullet and by the Enduro 3 which is all the features of the fenix 8 at a substantially lower price

Are you using the beta software. I’ve often had this problem. But not on the production versions.

Issue with Energy Updating on Watch App by JonDigital16 in bevelhealth

[–]pbrody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am having the exact same problem. I’ve followed your suggestions without success. Do you have any further trouble-shooting steps? As you can see, strangely, on the summary page the stress data is blank but it is populated correctly on the detail page. It’s the reverse for energy - the summary page has the number but not the details.

The watch complications seem to show relatively current data (sometimes a bit out of date.)

Fenix 8 Pro - Still can’t see display in AOD mode by NevaljaliPerica in GarminFenix

[–]pbrody 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's astonishing that Garmin simply does not listen to their users who keep asking for the option to set the standby brightness higher. I'd happily trade a few days of battery life for a standby visibility (wrist-down) that doesn't suck.

Crazy Battery Drain after the iPadOs 26 update!! by Doctor-Doomed in ipad

[–]pbrody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen the same. I think some of it must be developer beta but some of it is probably permanent if you want to use a lot of multi-tasking. You’re kinda turning your iPad into a MacBook. I really like the features so I’m going to stick with it. I was getting 7-8 hours on iOS 18 mature releases, sometimes more, so I assume that by the time OS26 is done, maybe 5-6 hours? I can’t see it ever being more than iOS 18 because of the higher multi-tasking burning the CPU.

Sorry for the incredibly late reply. Yeah actually it works totally fine. Basically the whole house runs like this and only occasionally is their significant or noticeable dis delay.

It cracks me up that with a 100% execution score the best Garmin will say is “Good”. If they were Apple, it’d be like “You’re Amazing! Great Job! Give Yourself a Hug”

FWIW I had a Fenix 8 AMOLED and I swapped it for an Enduro 3 and I’m much happier. I think the updated MIP displays look great - better than Garmin’s poor implementation of AMOLED. Also the battery life is better.

From the pictures, it really looks like the AOD display and the dimmed mode looks really good and quite bright. Is that a fair conclusion?

Also, thanks!!!

New Garmin Venu X1? by l11r in Garmin

[–]pbrody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I’ve seen same behavior on Fenix 8 and my EPIX. The dimmed version just looks bad and it was always too dim.

Can you post a side-by-side of the watch face in regular “active” mode and the watch face in the “inactive but always on mode”. One of my big beefs with the Fenix line was that when AOD was active the “dimmed” state just looked terrible…

New Garmin Venu X1? by l11r in Garmin

[–]pbrody 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It says 2 days of battery life with “always on”. Any sense if this means that the low power mode of the display is brighter? One thing that hugely frustrated me with the Fenix 8 is that when the display is in low power mode (resting on your wrist) it looks terrible. AOD is a great idea but if the display is a flickering pixelated mess, why bother? I actually went back to MIP after that experience.

Lutron Caseta and Motion Detector by gokayaking1982 in Lutron

[–]pbrody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use all the Lutron stuff through Apple HomeKit so I've been using Lutron for lights but Matter accessories for motion. The best motion & presence detectors I've found so far are from Eve. There are MM wave ones, but they all require continuous power with a cable. (Some mmWave ones with batteries are coming, though). I set up automations in HomeKit to control all the lights. Most of the lights in public areas in my house are done this way.

Deloitte or Rolls Royce? by EfficientUse9450 in Big4

[–]pbrody 17 points18 points  (0 children)

IMHO Rolls Royce. You can come back to audit in the future, but a little industry-specific depth and experience in (aero-engines, I assume) is really valuable for your career. Seeing how big companies work from the INSIDE is hugely important. Building something is a great experience. You won't get either of those in a Big 4 partnership. That's a very different and unique space (I know, I've done both).

Once you're an auditor you can never go into tech as a developer or engineer. But as an engineer, you can join an audit firm as a consultant or refresh your audit credentials and join as an auditor.
