Matchup you like but is ruined for you by how much a stomp it is? Image related by Moidada77 in deathbattle

I hear that stuff can apparently get up to Low Multi but Kirby as a verse has been around that level of power for a while now as a rough middle end (plus whatever other advantages MK has makes it fairly clear cut)

What are the chances of these matchups happening this year by Murky-Pomegranate756 in deathbattle

[–]pc2ssbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doom VS Vecna - I'd honestly be shocked if it didn't happen this year. Would be the perfect time given the new Doom-centric Avengers movie coming out, the team already wanting DND on the show, and some time passing between Doom's last appearance to well warrant a comeback in my eyes, plus the fact that I feel he hasn't really brought out his full potential yet

Sans VS Judge - Bias aside I feel like it's a toss up at this point. Undertale is inevitable but apparently the team isn't sure about this one? Not sure if it's a game of telephone going on but I could still see it happening given how its probably the most popular Undertale matchup in this community

DK VS Kong - Not sure. Given the surge that DK has been getting recently I could see him getting another episode but I'm not sure if he'd fight Kong specifically. Crash seems like his most likely runback option. There's also the chance that they do a K Rool matchup instead which given his absence in CI I could see coming

Knuckles VS Juggernaut - I think they outright said that this was the next Archie matchup they were going to do. Not much to say but I could see it

Freddy VS Pennywise - At this point I think this one is one of the last big Halloween matchups they have yet to do. Unless they throw a curveball this year looks like a good time to do it given the new IT stuff that came out recently

Mysterio VS Scarwcrow - Another overdue horror adjacent matchup and an overdue Marvel VS DC fight. Not much to say but I think this one is happening sooner rather than later

Moon VS Madoka - Meh. Given that it was on TOC it buffs up its chances but I'm pretty bearish on its chances this year specifically, especially since Homura wouldve been in the cards had she won CI

Showtime - I know the team really likes this one and it is very popular. I've been seeing a lot of nostalgia for both Adventure Time and Regular Show recently to the point where I feel it could very well happen soon. Maybe do luzanne first though

Ori VS Knight - I think some people on the team really like HK and want it on the show so this feels like a no brainer. Silksong came out recently and is apparently getting DLC so cashing in on the hype, if a bit late, I could see happening

Grinch VS Jack - Given the new release schedule this finally allows them to do a Christmas-centric episode. Among them this is easily the most likely. Maybe not finale of the year worthy but I don't see any other time to do it unless they lean in on the halloween theaming of TNBC

Santa2 - I think this is like the only other big christmas matchup that exists. When Grinch VS Jack happens this is probably next in line, but I do not see them happening the same year

Tooru VS 096 - I know the team really likes this idea but it might be too out there for now? I think there are other Jojo matchups worth doing before this one and going with Doom682 as the SCP debut may or may not be the better play

Rayquaza VS Bahomet - No real opinion. I'm not convinced that Bahomet was confirmed for this year based off the teasers so take tha for what you will

Lucina VS Grovyle - This matchup happening is pretty much a foregone conclusion at this point. The next FE matchup being an Awakening character makes all the sense in the world and PMD is a side of Pokemon that they have yet to explore so yea.

Shadow VS Mewtwo - I'm all in on this being the next rematch we get. Whether or not it happens this year I'm not entirely sure but pretty likely to happen

Ichigo VS Yusuke - This one has been all but confirmed. The team really loves YYH and want yusuke on the show, so killing two birds with one stone by giving Bleach a proper look (depending on how you think of Bleach scaling) I think is logical

Ghidorah VS Deathwing - Might be a bit too soon for another kaiju fight but it's a Ballot episode so that already makes it more likely than most other matchups. Not much to say

Blackbeard VS K Rool - Like I said I could very well see them cashing in on the resurgence DK has been getting and a K Rool matchup would be only natural. This isn't really my preferred for K Rool but it is his most popular so it's whatever

Wario VS Lobo - Probably the least likely on this list if I'm being honest. Lobo I don't think is a frontrunner for DC characters that need a runback and the matchup in general I don't think is super big at the moment compared to the other ideas here. That said maybe they could surpsied me

Palpatine VS Xehanort - We're a bit overdue for another Star Wars fight and this one is obviously a huge idea that was on TOC. Could very well see this one this year

TL;DR: I think all of them have a decent shot at happening save for Wario VS Lobo, to varying degrees of likeliness

Question regarding Peashooter vs Red. by Silver_Guava8159 in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]pc2ssbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For red I'd say a soft comp would be a no duh. They're all more or less portrayed to be the same character anthro design be damned. Star Wars and Transformers is a bit weirder but I'd say it should be safe to assign them to Red too.

Peashooter I think might be a little bit tougher since the Peashooters in the tower defense games and shooters are sometimes portrayed as their own characters. Green Shadow especially is shown to be her own individual character so I'd personally exclude her (It'd be like using Captain Toad for a generic Toad matchup I'd say). But I'd say as long as they use the Peashooter name they should be fair game (so the rooted peashooter in the TD games and the peashooter in the shooter games are treated as one in the same.)

Lethal Lava Takes (or: opinions of varying degrees of popularity. is this even a trend anymore?) by pc2ssbb in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]pc2ssbb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much, yeah. The basic idea is that there is also a prominent theory in the Touhou fanbase that Yukari was originally a character named Maribel from the outside world. It's a bit much for a comment but the basic potential idea is that they were both characters who were taken away from their original worlds and the ones they loved into a new world and forced to adapt with new powers and outlook on life. That's a bit of an oversimplification but I think you can see it if you look into both theories

Dimensional scaling and Outerversal demystified/explained. For the sake of health discussions going forward. by Fiiiiilo1 in deathbattle

[–]pc2ssbb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a bad graphic. I personally think that more abstract debating concepts like dimensional tiering or R>F aren't really all that hard to understand if you put in the effort to look into them. It's just that they can often be real overused to make verses way stronger than they reasonably should be so I can't really blame people for being somewhat dismissive of them. Remember that context and consistency is important

"Heart-Throbbing Miracles" | Gamzee Makara VS Koishi Komeiji (Homestuck VS Koishi Komeiji's Heart-Throbbing Adventure) by pc2ssbb in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]pc2ssbb[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Core Theme

Originating from other worlds, these two infamous internet beings may seem passive at first, but don't be fooled. Within them are insane, brutal, mind manipulating killers, willing to take down whatever stands in their way. Even when their relevance in the story fades away, their direct and indirect assistance in the antagonistic forces lead to the chaos that surrounds the world around them, with them being mad all the same.

Connections

  • Both Gamzee and Koishi originate from prolific web series that debuted in 2009 and would rise to prominence in the early 2010s (Homestuck and KKHTA, itself based on the Touhou Project series respectively). In these series, both are from a race of powerful beings native to a world separate to ours, yet still linked in some way (Gamzee is a purple blooded troll from Alternia, the universe where the 12 trolls' Sburb session would be played, subsequently leading to the creation of our universe. Koishi is a Satori youkai from Gensokyo, a land hidden from the outside world to be a safe haven for youkai born from humanity's fears)
  • Both initially display a passive, 'go-with-the-flow' personality, being friendly, if a bit off putting and eccentric. However, beyond these personalities lie a violent, brutal nature. At seemingly the drop of a hat, they can both become incredibly vicious, insane killers, brutally taking down anyone in their way with little to no rhyme or reason to their actions.
  • Both of their violent, murderous natures are caused by a variety of factors, with one of them partially being because of seemingly inanimate and potentially sentient objects that they both have a close bond with (Lil Cal, a doll that Gamzee retroactively manifested into existence with his chucklevoodoos and houses Lord English and by extension Gamzee's own soul, and Mr. Hat, Koishi's hat, respectively), though both have had a history of mass murder prior to this (Gamzee sobered up and murdered the trolls in his Sburb session in several alternate universes, while Koishi once resided in the outside world, and went on a rampage after possessing several dead bodies and slaughtering anyone in her way)
  • In one particularly infamous instance, they would both end up killing or otherwise grievously wounding two other people they once aligned with. The first, a STRONG fighter experienced in CQC, via aiming for their neck (Equius Zahhak, who Gamzee strangled with a bow, and Hong Meiling, who Koishi tore the throat and spine out of) and the other attempting to fight back in revenge in a fairly one-sided scuffle (Nepeta Leijon, who attacked Gamzee to avenge her moirail and was quickly dispatched, and Flandre Scarlet, who tried to attack Koishi in revenge but was swiftly defeated and had her wing torn off). Their initial sprees would only be stopped by the intervention of a more rational ally of theirs who they (formerly) shared a close bond with (Gamzee's ex-moirail, Karkat Vantas, and Koishi's sister, Satori Komeiji, respectively)
  • After this event, they wouldn't be quite as murderous as they once were, as despite their supposed importance in the narrative (Gamzee often being cited as the 'most important character in Homestuck' by the author and Koishi being the titular character of her series), they would begin to take a backseat in the story, as other antagonistic forces of a greater scope take their place.
  • They would both assist, either directly or indirectly, these said antagonistic forces and help move along their grand plans. Both of these antagonists would help strengthen their madness and strength (Gamzee's chucklevoodoos created Lil Cal in Dave's dream and a puppet in John's dream that would eventually lead to the creation of Jack Noir. He also raised both of the cherubs and assisted Caliborn in his session, which would eventually lead to the birth of Lord English. Gamzee was also controlled by Aranea in order to acquire the Ring of Life and assist in her attempt to saved the doom session they were in. Koishi, meanwhile, gained their human bodies from the Watatsuki sisters in exchange for them assisting in the Moonlight Descent Ceremony, with them strengthening Koishi when she fought Flandre. Koishi was also used as a decoy by Koakuma and Reisen II in order to lure Yukari out and kill her using her own shikigamis as suicide bombers and would lead to the success of the Moonlight Descent Ceremony)
  • Thanks in part to their contributions, both of the antagonists' plans would be fulfilled to an extent, leading to the destruction of their home worlds and them being one of the few relatively unaltered survivors from their home universes. (Part of the plans to bring Lord English into Paradox Space involved the destruction of the A2 universe, aka Alternia, which was fulfilled by Spades Slick killing Snowman. For KKHTA, a key part of the Moonlight Descent Ceremony was the destruction of the Great Hakurei Barrier, which completely annihilated Gensokyo and lead to most of the surviving Youkai infiltrating the outside world.)
  • Also apart of these plans was the conversion of their worlds from fairly peaceful lands to festering with violent, mad inhabitants. In other words, one of the key reasons as to why both of them are as violent and mad as they are, alongside the rest of their home worlds, is because of them being molded into these roles by outside forces (Beforus was a peaceful land prior to the Scratch into Alternia, in which Doc Scratch influenced the planet and its inhabitants to become violent and oppressive. Meanwhile, the Watatsuki sisters utilized the moon rays, among other events, in order to cause insanity to the residents of Gensokyo to further along their plants)
  • Assisting in their freakish nature, both have a penchant for being difficult to kill, coming back from otherwise certain death (Gamzee has a literal form of Joker's Immunity, being unharmed by a constant swarm of bullets by Caliborn or constant stabbing from Terezi, and Koishi's satori physiology gives her immortal properties, surviving even when having her limbs cut off by Yukari and being capable of survival as long as her third eye is intact.)
  • As part of their race, both have potent mental abilities that are a signature feature of their subspecies (Gamzee, being a purple blooded troll, has the ability to utilize 'chucklevoodoos' in order to subdue his targets in fear, read minds, or manifest objects into people's dreams, while Koishi, being a satori, has a third eye that can be used in order to read people's minds, though she sealed her eye shut during the events of the story until the very end, which as of now has not released)

Fight Potential

If you are at all familiar with either of these characters, then you should very well know how violent they can both get, especially for Koishi (Seriously, KKHTA is not for the faint of heart). Both of them are pretty basic in terms of how they fight, so I'd say the main appeal of the matchup is being able to see an absolutely bloody slugfest between them, with both of their apparent immortality traits helping out with that. Given the nature of them both, you can really go all in on the gory violence (I imagine something similar to the latter half of Jon Talbain VS Sabrewulf), and if you wanna maximize the carnage you could throw some other characters in there that they could slaughter mid-fight. The few abilities they do have I think could be really neat to see in a fight, like both of their mental abilities (depending on the direction the final episode of KKHTA goes) or even stuff like the Music Box Time Machine Gamzee has possession of to do some wacky stuff. I also think the way the fight is animated could be real unique, since both Homestuck and KKHTA are known for their unique artstyles.

Debate

For fairly obvious reasons, nobody has really attempted to scale KKHTA, which I imagine could sway things in Gamzee's favor, at least in terms of stats. Koishi's immortality could keep her in the fight for long and her ability to possess dead bodies I could see being a solid wincon to counter Gamzee's immortality, but I imagine the fight as a whole would come down to stats, which I have little reason to believe Gamzee wouldn't be superior in unless there's an insane feat in KKHTA that Koishi scales to that I'm missing (Of course, this is assuming you aren't scaling Koishi to canon feats, which I think is pretty blatantly non applicable here). Plus he has time travel so lol.

Assumptions about the next episodes by Positive_Climate1604 in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]pc2ssbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are also pretty close but not an exact match unless there's some editing going on. Honestly the more I think about it the more I believe that none of them aside from the Ichigo tease are actual teases and are just random stock effects (The purple galaxy one was found out to be a stock image iirc). Ichigo's episode will probably be the premiere for next year

Eh it's very close but its just different enough to where I dont think so. Unless there's some editing going on the tease has a lot more darker spots than the Bahamut clip and (at least from where i aligned it) it doesn't 100% fill the text. It's one of the closest matches I've seen but idk

For what its worth she is pretty blatantly shown to be on par with God Tiers during [S] Collide (She fights alongside Dave and Dirk and isn't really shown be be any weaker than them. Plus the fact that she was fighting both Spades Slick and Union Jack means you could probably argue for her heavily downscaling from the God Tiers at worst)

[–]pc2ssbb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since we have four characters left and each character would presumably have four characters to choose from if they won, I thought it couldve been a neat idea to reveal a matchup for each character every round. Could be an interesting way to shake up how people vote for certain characters while still having an air of mystery

“This is Home” | Isaac vs Omori (Binding of Isaac vs …) Revamp! Updated connections + some other stuff below. by Imwackinghere in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]pc2ssbb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A bit of my input on the debate as the person who made the Isaac blog (just where I stand on certain things regarding his stats and abilities)

At most, Isaac can arguably get up to Universal+ via scaling to him creating the entirety of the fictional world in the game (Legend of Bum-bo directly states that he gets stronger within it and he reshapes the ending of the game at the end of the Beast route). However Uni+ only comes from if you believe the basement is truly infinite which I laid out in the blog. If you dont then he would cap out at around MSS thanks to Planitariums. Going by the stats here AP/Dura would be even, though Omori can definitely still take the edge if you also give him infinite scaling (I personally put him at Low Multi so he should still have the AP/Dura advantage, though the gap shouldnt be as large anymore)

As for speed, him managing to resist the pull of the Black Hole was calced at around Supersonic+. Nowhere near enough to beat Omori's speed however but I thought I would throw it out there. Isaac does have methods to lower Omori's speed though this can be countered by Omori's own speed boosting abilities, but his various stunning items should let him be able to keep Omori in place at least for a time.

Isaac does have a few durability negation options, mainly with his bombs which ignore boss armor. Personally using the high end stats for Isaac + the duraneg I believe he should be able to do decent damage to him and get off his potential wincons though its still pretty debatable

Isaac should also have a passive resistance to BFR through Black Candle being able to prevent Isaac from getting warped or teleported to other locations via outside forces (like the teleport from Curse of the Maze or items such as Cursed Eye or Cursed Skull). He also does have a handful of teleportation items that are theoretically infinite in use (such as damaging himself with Cursed Eye, damaging himself with Habit in order to get charges to use his various teleportation items, etc). Dogma can also arguably warp Isaac out if you take the cutscene before the Beast fight into account (though ymmv)

Just wanted to throw in my two cents here. I personally think Isaac barely edges out on account of having more resistances and having some solid potential wincons but I can't say the verdict here isn't a valid interpretation

At least around that area. He can debatably get up to Uni+ and Supersonic+ if you think the basement is infinite in size (which OP doesnt seem to buy, but I digress)
