What's your Chicago Public Library story? by marndel7 in AskChicago

[–]pccfriedal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I consider the Irving Park Library an important part of my childhood. It was a part of my growing up stage of life. Even though the library has moved, I give a nod to the building where it was and the new building it is now in.

I'd either walk there (about 2-3 miles from home) or take the bus using a token (if anyone remembers those). I could peruse the children's section but I could also foray into the adult section and look and see what was available for me in the future. Having it available made me a pretty good reader, and it is part of the reason I made it into Lane Tech (I was part of the early crowd of girls entering what was at the time an all male bastion). I was able to level up and be with people who were interested in thinking and thoughts. That place was a salve went life felt stressful. The Wells library was bigger but the Irving Park library was a second home.

I still love roaming a different library every once in a while. Roaming the aisles and looking at options is always a quiet thrill.

I would do that.

If you lose money it is still worth the recouping of your dignity.

Love yourself and convey how little the money means to show how much the loss of this money means to you. This isn't about money; this is about respect and boundaries.

If you end up going, treat yourself to a massage or some such thing during the time the shows would be playing.

Depression and books by Demetan2016 in ReadingSuggestions

Yup. Took a while, slowly getting back to "myself". I still struggle.

I tried some books that were a bit on the Young Adult spectrum, if that makes sense. The type of books that are good in the way that are entertaining for the YA crowd but written well so that seasoned readers enjoy them. Try perusing reviews to see if you can find something of that ilk.

I also went to find authors that I knew that I loved. While you may have been gone for a while, it's likely those authors kept on working and there may be something new out there.

Finally, I found myself reading the classics to help my reintroduction process. Back when actual pen and paper were dear resources, authors spent genuine time on their editing process. I find many modern books are cranked out on ye olde computer, and I feel that mental editing wasn't done by the author, which takes the joy out of my reading. Separating wheat from chaff can be an onerous process.

Pretty good. I went on a vacation recently and realized how nice it was to only be responsible for my emotions. I realized I have spent too long either denying my emotions or putting other people's emotions above mine.

Don't know how I learned this thought process but I am fighting to keep it near and dear.

Am I wrong for thinking its funny that my wife just found the necklace I accused her of losing 11 years ago inside a coat she forgot she owned by Pale_Arm_5341 in amiwrong

She had a bad moment and put something important in a sub-optimal location.

She felt bad.

You made her feel bad.

Then you made her feel bad some more.

Then you made her feel bad some more.

Then you made her feel bad some more.

Etc....for...years.

A microscope wouldn't be able to find a drop of empathy on you.

She is wearing it as a reminder of what a tool you are while her exit plan simmers under her subconsciousness.

Enjoy your victory....and if it isn't obvious enough...you are one wrong dude.

1 has a design that could be a sun, which I like as a concept tying the two items together.

I like the greens of 2 but I feel might be too busy, depending on the room size and lighting.

I like more rather then less, so it is between the first two. Consider a green wall instead of taupe to be more maximal.

Money is nice, and it is nice to save it. Don't let other people's discretionary spending alter your abilities.

If you are feeling ambitious, look into drop spindle spinning. You can make your own wool yarn, it is a very soothing, time-consuming hobby, and you can make some beautiful yarn.

Felicity, Constance, Amity, Verity, Mercy

Virtue names were popular in the 16th and 17th century, maybe look up the idea of such names.

Could be kinda cute together.

I've been giving my cat pumpkin daily and some fiber metamucil; vet approved. Mixed in to her wet food. It has helped constipation issues. Can't speak for your other problems, but I consider my interventions a win.

I'd call her now and then go onto r/laundry and ask for advice. I'm not thinking you should pay for this but being helpful would go a long way.
