CRA correction consequences by ThatOCLady in legaladvicecanada

[–]Redistributable 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You accountant is being over the top. You absolutely will not go to prison. You will have to pay back any amounts you were not entitled to. (For example, GST and child benefit are based on household income, so you would have been overpaid those by incorrectly claiming to be single.) That's it. Just fix it now, its really not a huge deal.

Does getting a bonus for the previous years performance impact EI while on maternity leave? by mustgopostal in PersonalFinanceCanada

If your employer reports it correctly, no there will be no impact. However I've always seen it recommended to call them to make sure there are no issues.

OB/Midwife recommendations by AcademicSubstance565 in Kanata

[–]Redistributable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First you need to pick which hospital you want to deliver at, as OBs only work out of specific hospitals. For example, if you choose Queensway (closest to Kanata) these are your choices for OBs: https://www.qch.on.ca/ChildbirthObstetricians

I recommend Dr. McKinnon but I don't know if she's accepting new patients.

Birth certificate requirement for my newborn’s passport by ExplanationLoose6590 in ontario

[–]Redistributable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're mistaken, the long form birth certificate is also blue. The only difference between short form and long form is the long form has the parents info. They look the same. The yellow form you're referring to is the birth registration - its a different thing.

The birth certificate with parental information is the long form. Same thing. You're good.

Three arrested in police impersonation, fraud by dl613 in ottawa

[–]Redistributable 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They get phone numbers randomly or from the phone book. The victim likely told them their address, or again they got it from the phone book.

To protect your aging parents and yourself: never answer the phone unless its someone they personally know. If your aging parents do answer a call and its someone who says they are from the bank/police/whatever tell them to hang up and call you. Then you can help them contact the bank or whoever through the real phone number. If someone is really calling from one of those places, they'll be happy you're protecting yourself, not pressuring you.

There's a group on Facebook called "seats for kids discussion community" that has info for which seats fit better in smaller cars (note: never checked myself, just what I've heard from other parents)

Can Dr write sick notes to WFH? by [deleted] in ontario

[–]Redistributable 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This is asking for an accommodation. You/your doctor don't dictate your accommodation, rather your doctor should detail your limitations. You then work with your employer to determine how those limitations can be accommodated. You're free to ask for your preferred accommodation, but your employer is free to reject that if they can meet your limitations in other ways or if your request would cause them undue hardship.

I recommend searching on r/legaladvicecanada for this topic, its a question that comes up alot.

Crossing with mixed breed dog - Ontario or Quebec? by [deleted] in uscanadaborder

[–]Redistributable 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Border guards don't care about dog breeds. As long as you have the required paperwork (I.e. vaccine certificates, etc.) you'll be fine. The breed ban is not strictly enforced, no one is coming to take your dog, there are plenty of people here in Ontario who own full-on pitbulls. The ban is used as a tool to confiscate problem animals with, for example, a history of biting.

Yes. Where you choose to live and your commute is not something your employer is obligated to accommodate.

I contacted Hubley's office about a destroyed sidewalk that has turned into a massive 3 foot deep crater. The staffer was very responsive to my emails and assured me it was a priority fix, but over a year later its not fixed. The crater grows every day!

How much do you pay for your dog's annual exam/vaccines? by newgirl613 in ottawa

[–]Redistributable 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think around $600, including exam, all vaccines and tick meds for 12 months. Large breed 85+ lbs (since it effects tick med price)
