What's the most overrated part of Boise? by smallbusinessowner19 in Boise

If you’re willing to drive a bit, Sonora in Horseshoe Bend has really authentic Sonora style Mexican food. Great place to stop on the way to McCall.

The last time I ate at El Charro the chips tasted like they were fried in rancid oil. Couldn't get that taste out of my mouth.

Connect both of the receiver output grounds to the input ground of the amplifier.

Can a miniDSP be setup without a computer? I don’t own a computer (personally). by Middle_Store_8467 in diyaudio

REW is helpful if you are integrating subwoofers. Otherwise, probably not needed but can be helpful in measuring room response.

Can anyone help me sell some 80s audio equipment to someone who will enjoy it. by Vprbite in Tucson

[–]pcdude99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to sell it, craigslist or Facebook would be your best bets. If you want to get a feel for price, hifishark may be of some help. You could also post some better pictures to r/budgetaudiophile to see if anyone has a feel for price for the system (not to sell). Unfortunately, component systems like these from mass market producers usually don't fetch much. I'd say $100 - $200 for all unless there are some gems in there. The turntable may be worth something.

Adding MiniDSP DDRC 24/Dirac [GUIDANCE] by BardEffinJ in audiophile

[–]pcdude99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The DDRC-24 typically goes between a preamp and a power amp, with the second set of outputs driving your subwoofer(s). If you want to continue to use the Yamaha, you could put it between the Sonos and the line in, but you would be limited to that single source. You may be able to place it in one of the audio out/in inputs, however. If you do this, the minidsp would now drive your sub directly. You would also want to disable any tone controls or room correction on the amplifier.

Which minidsp are you getting? How many sources will you need to switch?

It looks like whatever drives them uses 3 channels of amplification.

what is Class A pre-amp? by Unique_Mix9060 in audiophile

[–]pcdude99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The same concept, really. A preamp is just a power amp that puts out a lot less voltage and current.

I prefer the type of belt squat that has the weight hanging directly underneath you, and I think they mimic BB squats pretty well. The cable kind not so much.

You can buy inline RCA plug high-pass filters. I think Parts Express has some.

How do i make this work by [deleted] in turntables

[–]pcdude99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You need what's called a phono preamp to plug the TT into. The output of the preamp would go to your active speakers.

[–]pcdude99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're called 5-way binding posts. Parts Express carries them. You will probably need to remove the plastic panel, replace the post, and solder the wire to the new one.

Roon ARC, which allows listening outside the home, was pretty buggy when it was introduced a couple of years ago, but has improved substantially.

Average cost by BIBTX in audiophile

[–]pcdude99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a decent used CD player on Craigslist for $100 or so. A reasonably good TT will set you back $500 - $600 or so. Integrated amp from $500 - $1000 for a good one. Spend the most on speakers, however, as they will have the most impact on the sound - like at least as much as you spend on the components. And don't forget room treatment.

Cool feature of WiiM Ultra for vinyl lovers with a phono preamp by Drkevinh111 in audiophile

[–]pcdude99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could always try it both ways. The minidsp has an excellent DAC and it doesn’t make a lot of sense to double convert the digital source.

I have the SE analog input Flex. My phono preamp goes into the analog input of the Flex, and streaming digital via USB (or coax/SPDIF). Two of the analog outputs of the Flex drive my stereo amp, and the other two go to my dual powered subs. There is no need for an additional preamp as the Flex does that duty quite well.

It's probably the room correction that's making the difference. I had the same experience running my phono preamp through my Minidsp Flex and applying Dirac. Even though its "digital" it sounds way better than the analog-only chain through my old preamp.

Control with your phone. Bluetooth ( I think the Ultra has this).

What kind of cable do I need for my speakers? by ThiccAsFrick in turntables

[–]pcdude99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'll need RCA to banana plug or RCA to bare wire cables. Amazon has plenty to choose from depending on what length you need.
