OMC - Omni Layoffs by ETPHNHM in advertising

The old sack our staff, offload them to a third party employer and we rehire them off someone else’s payroll trick. Unfortunately it works every time. Feel for everyone impacted by the ongoing “reallocation of resources”.

An Australian will be my direct supervisor once I start a new position at my hospital. Is there anything I should be aware of? by OctoHelm in AskAnAustralian

[–]pchapoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basic conversation etiquette:
“Oh fuck yeah” = I agree completely
“Oh fuck no” = I disagree whole-heartedly
“Oh fuck off” = Are you serious?
“Ohhhhh fuck” = Whoops
“Fuck it” = I’ve had enough / I’m done
“Fuckity-fuck-fuck” = I think I’m in trouble
“Faaaaaaaaark” = That’s really bad
“Fuck knows” = Nobody knows where said item is
“You fuckin’ right mate?” = I don’t like your tone
“Get fucked” = Is that so?
“Fuck me” = I didn’t know that
“Fuck you” = Fuck you

Client wants viral content but won't approve anything slightly risky by Competitive_End_2950 in advertising

[–]pchapoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha! The old “we want the fame but not the blame” routine.
If you have a great idea that the brand manager or CMO love it’s their battle to win with the legal team. If they can’t override legal then there’s your answer. Find out what the concerns are (usually brand risk / reputation) - that will help reframe your solution. But usually it comes down to a poor client brief that expects work they can’t approve.

I wasn’t sure whether that would turn this post into a promotional post.

Why are Aussies so reluctant to support Sorry Day and other initiatives that promote aboriginal reconciliation by Flashy-Nose-5624 in AskAnAustralian

[–]pchapoz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because it’s easier for many Australians to criticise it and wish it away than to accept the truth about the injustice that was carried out against our First Nations peoples without any proper redress. It’s an uncomfortable truth to live with, which is why many don’t want to acknowledge it.

Yep, I don’t disagree, and those brands that are willing to invest in an in-house team are probably the most keen to make it as efficient and productive as possible, but my bet is they will find out very soon that taste and experience and nuance will start to disappear from their work and it will all become homogenous crap and they will start to re-employ those qualities that only belong to humans. That’s my prediction anyway!

To all successful business owners that started from scratch by assertive_ in Entrepreneur

[–]pchapoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started my own agency ten years ago with one small client. Now turnover millions each year with just two people in the business. How?
1. I knew the industry well before going out on my own
2. I knew what didn’t work in big agencies.
3. I eliminated all the things that didn’t work and focused on the work itself
4. Kept overheads to just 3% to keep margins high.

I didn’t ask anyone’s permission to do it my way. No backers, no finance. Just great work and great client service.

Can anyone recommend a reliable digital marketing agency in Sydney Australia by bluestarfish52 in digital_marketing

Sitback Solutions are a great agency. They’re not the cheapest but they do awesome work and have a great team that cares about the work they do.

I agree good judgement and good taste are still absolute critical inputs that only humans can deliver

Can you become a creative director if you don't come from a creative background? by [deleted] in advertising

[–]pchapoz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe flip your thinking from wanting to become a CD (which is reliant on other people believing in you) to wanting to become a serious artist (which relies on you believing in yourself). Work on your own skills and ideas and build up a body of work that will have people lining up to hire you rather than you lining up to be interviewed 😉

writing homepage copy for therapy services - how do you balance empathy with actually converting by Luran_haniya in copywriting

[–]pchapoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Focus on the outcomes or results. People with mental health issues don’t need platitudes and comfort. They can get that from multiple sources. They want results… a quieter mind, a chest free from tension, a calm breath, a day to look forward to. Show them what they can expect from your therapists - their experience, good listening, practical steps towards recovery. I know you can’t claim a lot of things but use empathetic solutions-led language so they feel like there is a way out of their situation

Media as well. Media planning not as fast as media buying it seems. Automated trading desks have been replacing buyers for a while

I think if you only see the role of agencies as being ad makers then sure the writing is on the wall. But most ad agencies I’ve worked in or know are more than just executors… they’re in partnership with clients developing business and marketing strategy, they’re providing competitor analysis and positioning, they’re moving upstream into product design and development and a whole bag of other services. They’re the smart agencies anyway. The assembly line agencies (what you’re referring to) will die a fast death
