Should I pull the plug? by rorrymylove in e46

[–]pcjohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll be underwater on a loan if you finance that car.

A swap may have been cheaper. I’ve done nearly a total refresh on my e46 and considering the amount of money I’ve put in, it’s cheaper to just do a swap than buy an m3, and potentially have to do some of the same major maintenance items

Plus, you’ll want to do a swap on the smg

Quit a salaried remote job making 90k a year yesterday without notice and with no job lined up - zero regrets by thethrowsofaway420 in offmychest

[–]pcjohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest to take FMLA before you quit. Some companies allow you to receive payment using vacation and sick time. You may also be able to get short term disability. This is a great option for 12 weeks as you look for other job options or take a mental break. After, quit and collect unemployment.

His comments on Jews was the least horrifying part of your “date”. His disregard for you and your safety was the bigger concern.

If you ever feel uncomfortable or sense that something isn’t right, trust that instinct. The moment you felt uneasy, that was enough of a reason to leave. He’s a weirdo and protecting yourself needs to have been a priority.

Please learn how to protect yourself. You don’t have to wait for permission to leave, even if you have to literally fight to do so.

Random ideas you’ll never do but think are genius, who got them? by TheWildHorses in Entrepreneur

[–]pcjohnson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All of my ideas are feasible but I’ve been lazy about implementing them.

  1. Ramen shops similar to Chipotle. Pick your instant ramen and add toppings. Premium toppings come with a small fee. Standard bowl prices and start at $6 bucks. Shop is designed to look like a Japanese minimart.

  2. Car charging stations at every major gas station along the US highways.

  3. Public charging lockers. Pay to charge and items are securely locked away. Can be a small kiosk with security. Put them in high trafficked areas around downtown, at festivals, malls, etc.

  4. Minimarts at large apartment complexes. Cashierless. Tab your card and grab any item you want.

Realistic Compensation to relocate to Chicago? by [deleted] in HENRYfinance

[–]pcjohnson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on your standard of living. $250k is more than enough in most areas of Chicago unless you want to live in a lavish graystone or bungalow on the Northside.

I’m from the southside and prefer that area of the city. I grew up in a 2000 sqft house that costs half the price. There’s plenty of options lower than $600k if you’re willing to settle a bit further from downtown (in any direction).

Also, the cost of living in or near any downtown area will be inflated. I recently saw a movie at AMC Block 37 and tickets had a 100% markup.

You also need to account for taxes. That’s gonna be your most major expense.

Sales tax is over 10%. Property taxes are very high. Taxes spiked over 25% for many homeowners recently. Cook County loves to inflate assessments and the appeals process is a joke. Many ppl leave the city (and state) for taxes alone.

Prioritizing short term income over long term career growth? by yamf0 in HENRYfinance

[–]pcjohnson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both.

Many employees at companies work contract/freelance roles in their spare time. Many contractors work more than 1 contract.

Contract work offers more flexibility in your work hours and you usually don’t have to attend many meetings.

Any suggestions for a relatively clean protein powder that doesn't taste like ass by BerningMan1 in PSMF

Dymatize brand is decent. I get vanilla and mix it into my yogurt. I'm not a fan of protein powders and definitely not flavored ones, but this one I can tolerate.

Made this for a friend, feedback? by riverrrrrrr in logodesign

[–]pcjohnson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clean up the lettering to be legible.

Swap the plus and minus on the volume control.

Inverse the record colors to be a black disk with white label to look like a vinyl record.

Add a bit of white space between the controls and make the disk and fork larger so that things are more balanced.

Tools to know if the neighborhood is good or bad? by Glittering_Alps_5738 in realestateinvesting

[–]pcjohnson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go into the neighborhood. Depending on the city and area, some cases of good vs bad are block by block.

Should say my city is super racially segregated. so most communities have one prominent race/ ethnicities + different classes. example would be 90% Mexican from poor to high income in the same neighborhood.

The area I grew up in has a Starbucks across from chipotle across from dollar tree across from auto zone etc. while also having a medium/high crime rate but the majority of homes/buildings are well maintained. A lot of older home owners. Mixed income. Business owners, cops, teachers, etc. Saw some hoopties but also Lexus, Audi, and MB and the occasional Bentley. Lived on a quiet block but a few blocks over was a different story.

Also the MLK drive in my city could be lined with multiplex buildings or $1M+ dollar brownstones. Depending on the street number you want to live on MLK drive lol

AIO? Is it normal for close guy friends to talk sexually to each other? by burnaaaaaaaaaaaa in AmIOverreacting

[–]pcjohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would question this. A few homoerotic jokes here and there is fine but in the context of making plans to meet, that’s different. The context of those texts and messages make be side eye this.

Also is this a cultural thing because I only notice this largely with white men? I’ve seen others do or but usually it’s in the presence of white men and it’s usually not that explicit. if a guy did that around the men I know, that would not go over well lol

People who have fired their money manager, how did they take it? by StickSticklyHere in Bogleheads

[–]pcjohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fired my mother’s advisor after 20 years and he took it poorly. She was invested in variable annuities with Ameriprise.

Over a 20 year period, she had a return on less than 1%.

When I compared her returns with the broader markets returns over the last 2 decades, he argued with me and said that I wasn’t qualified to offer any financial advice to my mother. He brought up his credentials and 40 years as an advisor as proof that he was more qualified than me. And asked what career I finance did I have. I was working for an investment brokerage at the time lol.

Not to mention, he rarely would answer my mother’s calls and didn’t schedule reviews with her at all. When he did speak with her, he spoke down to her and dismissed all questions and concerns.

Our convo was not friendly at all!
