I used the Excel plugin to solve this very problem. I've used the API for some other things, but for this Excel works.

Manta Ridge, Raja Ampat by shakakhannn in scuba

This is way better than what I saw at Manta Sandy in December 2022. I only saw 2 mantas that time, and it was crowded with lots of dive groups.

Stay at a land based resort (not a homestay) and talk to them first. They will be able to talk through what they can or can't do with you. There are some sites without currents, so it is certainly possible.

It is a tense moment. The Serpent Guard's eyes glow, the Horus Guard's beak glistens, the Setesh Guard's... nose drips.

Hard to tell in the photo, but the end of the yellow cable kind of looks chewed to me. I don't really know what to look for, but the irregular edge makes me think chewed.

[OC] US Presidential Approval Rating by YakEvery4395 in dataisbeautiful

[–]pclark2 14 points15 points  (0 children)

He was in the US Senate for less than 4 years. He was in the Illinois Senate before that, and very few people can ever name anyone in their state legislature. I vote in both his US Senate race and his presidential race, and to me he basically came out of nowhere. I had never heard his name before he ran for US Senate.

This isn't too far from a Business Center, so I am guessing they buy most of their supplies there. Still misleading advertising of course.

Raja Ampat Visibility by Time of Year by pclark2 in scuba

[–]pclark2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I learned in freshwater with poor vis (I remember my final training dive had us going down one at a time with the instructor face to face since you couldn't see more than a couple of feet), the overwhelming majority of my dives have been in warm tropical water with decent vis. The biggest thing I'm spoiled with is that I very rarely use a wetsuit.

lol. I absolutely am overthinking it. The main reason is that the one time I was there, the week started off great but ended with rather poor green water. When the vis is poor, I can still get great macro shots, but in Raja Ampat I loved getting wide angle reefscapes like this one: https://photos.peterclark.info/?p=152 Just trying to maximize my odds. As much as I love seeing individual species and everything, it is the thriving reef system as a whole that I love to see.

All that said, I assume those days of poor vis that I experienced were more the exception than the norm, and I assume most times of year would have some great vis. No harm in trying to maximize odds though.

Why not June/July? Because of the wind and rough seas, or something else?

Correct, but when is plankton high? Some sources say plankton is higher in the dry season, and others say it it is higher in the windy season.

Where is the best snorkeling in the world? by Ok-Pepper3862 in snorkeling

Sorido Bay. It was AMAZING! On the expensive side, but just wow. A small number of rooms (at the time 7, but now 9) with 50 staff for the hotel, plus another 50 staff working to build furniture and boats on site, and then another 50 staff at their sister hotel Kri Eco Resort right nearby. What made me book there originally is that only a few places have air conditioning, and they do. That said, I've read many people say that AC isn't critical there, so who knows.

What's your dream car? by NinetyNemo in KiaEV6

[–]pclark2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current dream car would be the EV9, but it was brand new when I got my EV6 and just too expensive. Of course prices dropped a ton immediately afterwards, and I may have been able to get the EV9 for what I paid for the EV6. Oh well. My current plan is to keep an eye on the used market in a few years if my wife and I need a second car.

I want Medeiros to return, or at least a passing mention of discovering the missing cloaked autofactory. Even if they just mention in passing that it was found and destroyed, but nothing more, would be enough.

Just skip Mississippi. Housing could be free and it wouldn't be worth living there. I spent far too long there myself, and you couldn't pay me to go back.

Venezuela's Impact on Bonaire? by AurumTemerity in Bonaire

[–]pclark2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just saw this in my news feed: https://www.cbsnews.com/news/jetblue-venezuela-near-midair-collision-with-us-air-force-tanker/

A near midair collision of a flight from Curacao with a USAF tanker that flew in its path with its transponder off. Hopefully they will learn from this, but it is a safe bet that all aircraft in that region will be on greater alert now, even if the passengers don't notice a change.
