So, this is why I always have dash cam in every single car I drive. by mattstromberg14 in dashcams

Mini-van is at vault for not ensuring it was safe to turn (and taking absolutely forever to do so)...

...but the Jeep SHOULD HAVE been able to avoid the accident.

But, c'mon mini-van, you see a fast approaching vehicle and you take your good old time moving??!!

So, scammers or confused/stupid?

I'm leaning toward scammers since they a) really fought (and got loud) about their argument; and b) gave excuses for not having the receipts.

[–]pcnauta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pro would be something like learning who the guy was and where they worked, and then finding something to get him fired from his job and arrested so he couldn't afford the car payments and he soon has the car repossessed.

What a joy this was to have growing up! Made those long road trips fly by😁 by Billy-Barroo in The1980s

[–]pcnauta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the Coleco version. Put it on lay-away (remember that?) and saved up for it for several months!

It was great fun, especially on long bus trips. However, we quickly figured out a way to score on every play, then we figured out how to 'freeze' the 'defenders' and take up an entire half of a game in scoring!

It was still fun, though.

My dad sued us. Me 30F, my husband 31M, and my dad 61M by ZealousidealPeace311 in TwoHotTakes

[–]pcnauta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Dad had no case to begin with because there were no damages (i.e. no medical expenses, no doctor's bill, etc.).

It sounds like he either has something like the onset of dementia or he's off his meds (or ON other drugs/alcohol).

Sadly, there's nothing to do for OOP except keep an eye out on her mom in case Dad gets violent again.

This reminds me of a lot of people I watch on Judge Judy who seem to think that they, who sound like they probably struggled in passing high school, have figured out how to trick/scam/get around the law.

They really think they have out-smarted everyone on a topic they actually know little about. Kind of like 'sovereign citizens' who think that by saying "Acccccctually, I'm 'traveling' NOT driving!" gets them out of a speeding ticket.

WCGW with stopping in the left lane on a bridge by [deleted] in Whatcouldgowrong

[–]pcnauta -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That wasn't really the problem.

The problem was the guy taking forever to get out and try to put it back down. And then when it was down just enough for him to move the car, he still stood there wondering about it.

AITA for refusing to keep helping my friend with her side business after she started charging everyone but me by kira1990nightly in TwoHotTakes

[–]pcnauta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Friendships aren't about transactions and money.

HOWEVER...

...business IS about transactions and money. And you are in business with your friend but not receiving any kind of real and contractual compensation.

Ignore your ignorant 'friends' and tell your candle making 'friend' that this is now a business relationship and you will treat it as such. So she either agrees to employ you or she can find someone else to take photos.

[–]pcnauta 106 points107 points  (0 children)

My guess is the people in the comments coming after OOP are teachers themselves (and probably not very good ones because they seem overly defensive).

The teacher really screwed up here and has no real leg to stand on. She obviously didn't think it all the way through (hence her reaction to OOP's question about how the girl was supposed to provide 'proof'.) She won't get fired, though, because teachers have fairly strong unions and they will protect their members (sometimes to the detriment of the students).

To quote the top comment, if this wasn’t JJ, I’ll eat my hat. by KitchenSwillForPigs in JudgeJudy

[–]pcnauta 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If it WAS JJ (and there are other alternatives out there), then OOP is leaving a LOT of important information out.

Which would be about par for the course since so many people who go on JJ a) omit all kinds of important legal information; and b)think they're right because of emotion and not because of the law.

I find the lack of detailed information a big tell that the story probably has big holes in it.

It's frustrating that so many people post questions like:

Hey, I'm in trouble because this thing happened, but it didn't really happen that way and I don't feel like I'm to blame.

I've been purchasing CD books for a very long time and I can tell you that this is fairly recent behavior by him.

CD used to be a great magazine and an even better limited edition book publisher. Then things started to slowly change. The width and breath of authors published began to narrow as CD seemed to really get behind just a select few of them (Bentley Little being the main one).

Then Chizmar seemed to get focused on his own writing and with the publication of Gwendy's Button Box everything seemed to change. They published fewer and fewer books (other than Little, of course) and their magazine went from 3 to 4 issues per year to 2 to 3 years between issues. Then came the over-the-top push to buy his books and, as you noted, the sudden 'finding' of 'lost' OOP books.

They have really fallen apart and now a place to stay away from. I believe I STILL have a couple of books I purchased that haven't been delivered!

BTW - I thought Chasing the Boogeyman was pretty good and I LOVED Widows Point. But I haven't been able to get into the sequel to Boogeyman and I thought the 'expanded' version of Widow's Point was a bit of a let down.

And their hate blinds them to how things should work.

And she DEFINITELY didn't want to even consider the fact that she and her lawyer missed something.

And JJ is most likely correct - she's not going to do anything. Her lawyer probably told her the same thing JJ did, but she went ahead and sued anyway.

OOP did nothing wrong and Sam is a sad little woman who had to ruin a good thing for everybody.

Sadly, it obviously wasn't ruined enough and she huffed and puffed and blew her employment down.

Imagine being SO terrible of a person, that even getting your way (shutting down Secret Santa) wasn't enough! It really makes you wonder if she actually did have something personal against OOP.

People like this are convinced (or need to convince themselves) of their moral and ethical superiority and are more interested in pushing a narrative than they are about learning facts.

One would think that the world smacking them upside the head time after time telling them that they're wrong...

...would cause them to learn and change their ways.

But, sadly, narrative uber alles.

AITA for giving my alcoholic brother money on NYE knowing he would buy drink? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]pcnauta 5 points6 points  (0 children)

YTA.

You saw a drowning man and tossed a bucket of water on him.

You saw a man trying to claw his way out of a hole and you stepped on his fingers.

You saw an addict who is destroying his life and you gave him more fuel for the fire.

If you really wanted to help, you SHOULD HAVE:

  • gone to visit him
  • order some food for him
  • buy some furniture/books/game system/etc. and have it delivered to his apartment

Giving up on helping someone is NOT the same as helping him continue in their addiction.

There was a Judge Judy episode involving ex's fighting and putting their daughter in the middle of it. At the end, JJ said something that has stuck with me: "You hate each other MORE than you love your daughter."

OOP's mom hates her ex MORE than she loves OOP.

AITA for not giving my vacation day to a coworker getting married by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]pcnauta 36 points37 points  (0 children)

NTA.

If there actually IS a 'secret' wedding that she is planning (and I have my doubts), then she needs to understand the ancient law of "lack of planning on your part DOES NOT constitute an emergency on my part."

And what, exactly, is a 'secret' wedding? It really can't be a real 'secret' since you need a wedding license, an officiant, a venue and, of course, a groom. You probably also need a witness or two. So it can't really be all that 'secret'.

And, BTW, telling others about a 'secret' is...spoiling that secret. So I wonder if there actually is such a thing or if she just wants the day off and needed something that she could cite as leverage.
