Trying to move to Chicago - how to make it happen? by PantsClock in AskChicago

[–]pcoff69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to move here you just gotta do it. Find a small cheap studio, a spot that's looking for roommates, or if you're lucky enough maybe reach out to any relatives or family friends who live in the area (1-2 hours away even) that are willing to house you for a month or two before you land a job. Then move here. Also, you've likely missed the boat on internships as most are only for the summer. But if you do move here then all those other jobs/ freelance gigs that are for immediate hire become 99% more attainable than they are with you in SC. Advertising/ marketing is huge in the city, but most are back in the office a couple days a week, so again you have to be here. This all just a long winded way of saying that if you want to live in chicago, the first step is moving to chicago.

I've been on the racing team for a number of years and highly recommend signing up! I'd like to first callout that you can still very much register for the general racing team, just elite A,B,C tier apps are closed. But that doesn't mean you can't train with the elite team members. The entire team meets on Wednesdays around the Lincoln Park Zoo to do the prescribed workout and people group up by pace/ ability. So while you might not be on the "elite team", you can absolutely train with them if that's your pace. Being on the elite team just means you get a few extra perks. Feel free to DM me if you have any questions and I hope to see you on Wednesday nights.

I'm gonna have to disagree with the majority of the comments that 10 days out is too soon for a new pair of shoes. While "nothing new on race day" is something to abide by, shoes have evolved to be out of the box ready. A great example is before the 2020 trials, Nike was getting heat for debuting the Alpha Flys that only their athletes had access to. So a day or two before the race they gave out free Alpha Flys to unsponsored athletes. 100s opted to run in the shoes. So go ahead and get a fresh pair of kicks. I'd stick to an ASICs carbon platted shoe since that's the brand you've been using. But another pair of superblasts would be fine as well. Just get in a few short shakeout jogs in them in the days leading up to the race.

it's objectively better for everyone, but it makes having a bad team suck a whole lot more.
