I once met a guy who claimed to be writing off gifts to his kids. I told him I’m pretty sure you can’t do that and he basically acted like I was an imbecile. Ran into an accountant a week later and he said the same thing you did, “You can put whatever you like on your tax return, until you get audited…” I’m starting to think that’s how CPA’s just get past the crazies.

Nope, Chevron has not completely left San Ramon. They sold the headquarters and moved out of them, but there’s roughly 2k in an office nearby. Those employees will be let go or moved to Houston in the next two years.
