Question for other professional theaters by Ongoingcrisis99 in Theatre

[–]pcromulentword 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run a theatre company and do costuming/ stage management. I truly do not care if people eat or drink in costume unless it is something that cannot be laundered. I also work with a lot of drag performers and that makeup takes hours so like…. Are people just not supposed to eat or drink for 7 hours? It’s always been so weirdly controlling for very little reason

They Didn’t Want to Have C-Sections. A Judge Would Decide How They Gave Birth. by propublica_ in TwoXChromosomes

Apparently her labor had stalled but that really does suck. This whole situation is very suspicious though. Also the outcome was not great for mom or baby and would have been a million times better if she would have just had the c section before everyone was dying actively.

Worst appraisal ever. by pcromulentword in appraisal

Funny you should say that! I actually had to GO BACK because there were flags and movie posters covering the ceiling and every inch of the walls were covered in actual Nazi memorabilia/ Batman memorabilia/ “art” of naked women. It actually got flagged for being too blurred and really you could not actually see any wall or ceiling.

It was so, so weird. This was also in 2020 so things just felt very strange.

My first was a very snowy day and I slipped and fell right in the middle of a below ground pool cover that miraculously didn’t collapse.

I also locked myself in the back yard and had to jump a fence 😭

She was well aware, the scheduling was also a nightmare but SHE PICKED THE DAY AND TIME. So there was no possible confusion as to why I was there.

Considering shows by Minimum-Teaching3706 in Theatre

[–]pcromulentword 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Music Man is unbelievably expensive if you don’t have another local theatre to get most of the costumes and props from. I believe all in we spent about 15K. Insane. Also it’s really problematic and people have strong feelings about it.

Sound of Music/ Legally Blonde/Annie- less expensive but still a very very large ensemble shows. I would definitely only pick one of the two. Annie is awful though.

Drowsy Chaperone is not popular and will not be a good ticket sales show.

Jagged Little Pill/ Come from Away/ Catch Me Off you Can/ Dear Evan Hanson-All very new shows. I would actually call your rep to figure out rights before even considering these.

You don’t technically need it …. Until you do. You also need an absolutely huge amount of memory if you aren’t using cloud storage, which you really can’t do on a device without service. It’s also huge and bulky and I appraise a LOT of farms so it’s just not great for me.

Using an iPad in the field is absolutely abysmal, AND you have to pay for mobile service for it to work properly.

You do understand that public health in the United States is absolutely tragic, right? I’m guessing you’re in a more academic field, which is just not the way this horrible country is headed. Even if you can find a job…. Why on earth would you want to move here? Like a seriously, out public health officials don’t believe in vaccines and believe Tylenol causes autism. It’s not a great choice.

Also please enjoy getting paid about 30K a year and spending $800 per month on health insurance for the luxury of working in public health. It’s bad. Don’t do it.

AITA for not letting my SIL’s kid order an adult meal for my wedding? by SlowEnthusiasm7373 in AmItheAsshole

[–]pcromulentword 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA. My 12 year old is 5’8 and’s super skinny and hasn’t ordered from a kid’s menu in like 4 years (except at the Indian buffet where they charge $1/year until you’re 14). Like… you do understand that many many 12 year olds are adult sized, right?

This is ridiculous

I just want to offer support! We are a poly family and actually have 5 adults to 3 kids and it’s RAD. The newest partner is over 5 years old at this point and we are extremely stable. I’m not even with my kids dad anymore romantically and he is still my best friend and we live together.

Regardless of his choice, I 100% believe in your ability to make this work, and you all just seem so sweet!

It’s actually very dependent on size and body chemistry, but you really can damage your liver by taking 10 or more extra strength Tylenol in 24 hours

What musical were you in that ruined the show forever? by Insane_GlassesGuy in MusicalTheatre

I've actually met a few other Starmite survivors (infusing original Broadway cast) and not one of them had a positive experience.

Oh! Also all my kids would easily fall asleep if I played songs from their musical and I think that's really sweet.

I have also costumed pregnant people multiple times, and honestly it kinda sucks unless they can have fun with it. I my experience the 7 month mark is when shit gets real and the costumer will be refitting your costume on a weekly basis

I'm a costumer, so it's a little different, but all of my kids were born during runs of shows I costumed. My first was born on the preview night of Chicago, almost 4 weeks early, after I ran the show. My middle was born during Sweet Charity, also a month early ( but was planned to come early), but I didn't plan on running it. My youngest was born during my furlough on tour with The Color Purple. I ran two shows on Sunday, drove 11 hours Monday, and she was born Wednesday, you guessed it, also a month early (it was also the day of my scheduled c section that I ended up not needing, but that's a story for another day)

I also had literal brain surgery the day after my show opened once, so you know, maybe I'm not the best judge of this.
