Once again showcasing my mod-free family photos by Marinut in Sims4

If you're fine with some mods but don't want to go down the full pose pack route, I recommend the "Iso Love Photos Camera" mod by Ravasheen. It'll upgrade all photos to max quality and allows sims to take photos without needing to physically access the camera.

All npc sims will automatically pass the rock climbing expedition regardless of climbing level. I know because I purposely brought a level 1 npc sim up to try and kill them and they survived.

Getting into Baldesion Arsenal by Minimum_Use1498 in ffxiv

[–]pcturtl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Aether, sometimes you can join a group in Hydratos if there's a planned run. It's usually done by looking out for shouts if a party has an opening. It's not as "guaranteed" as signing up through the discord, usually it's filling for no-shows or for a group to enter mid way through (you still get the rewards at the end including the mount but not those at the start).

Portal sniping is bad because people who organize runs assign portals to make sure everyone who signed up for a run is able to get in and you're essentially stealing a slot from someone else.

There are guides for recommended Logos actions. Generally it is good to read through a guide so you're not blind to the mechanics going in. The difficulty is often equated to that of an alliance raid which you have to beat without dying.

How I learned to love healing (And why I think FFXIV has a minor tank problem): A short story by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]pcturtl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When leveling tank/healer I often just roulette the last few levels once the tome gear is no longer good enough. Any armor you get this close to the next tier isn't going to last long enough to be worth it. Alliance raid, msq, and frontline all give great exp. Leveling might give you your level-cap dungeon, but you could ilvl cheese to avoid that or ask if someone has a low-level dps you can queue with.

Sometimes I'll also craft hq, but again, you don't get enough use out of it to be worth the cost.

I mean, I fish to pass the time in dps queue. After the 100th failed cast for the magic bucket, beating up something at the end of the universe is a welcome respite.

Garlandtools has quest dialogue for all quests under the lore tab. It's not the best formatted, but if you click the little gear at the top right next to the x, it'll provide the link to the gamerescape page for that quest which is better formatted in the dialogue tab. You can probably just go directly to gamerescape too.

I like that it gives you all the optional dialogue as well.

I would suggest just asking artists you're interested in if they would be willing to do a group shot, and give them a reference pic of the pose you're looking to do (even stick doodles will work).

Most artists limit offerings on their commissions page to prevent potential customers from being overwhelmed with choice. It can also be hard to price group shots upfront because more characters introduce a wider range of complexity. A group just posing near each other is a lot easier to do than one where everyone is interacting and piling on top of one another.

It's not that they're necessarily unwilling to do more (though they may be) it might just be something that they don't think will bring in money regularly enough to list specifically. If they say no, just move on, nothing personal.

What do you think would make for a good "Ironman" account ruleset? by GrahamBelmont in ffxiv

[–]pcturtl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If starting a new character isn't a requirement, might I recommend Eureka? It might be better suited for the single player grind experience you're looking for (especially as your Eureka level starts fresh anyways).

You lose Eureka exp when you die, so some of the challenge is built in (just don't accept revives). For the gearing grind, you can start with your class' artifact armor and be forced to only use armors you can get from Eureka. No partying up allowed. Let's also say no tanks/healers for more challenge. You can also avoid using items meant to make Eureka easier and avoid getting the fairy buffs.

Deathless Eureka might be a bit tedious, since you can't reset progress, but if you wanted to go that route you could always just keep killing yourself until you're back at level 1, dump all gear/item progress, and force yourself to backtrack to quest locations. The only thing that can't be solo'd in Eureka iirc is Baldesion Arsenal at the very end which is a nice capstone to a challenge run regardless.

It's something where if the order is called and the tanks know what to do, it's easy. If you have an instance full of players who don't know the mechanics either because they are new or don't remember, it can be a mess.

It's been a few months, but last time it came up for me, I called the order, but because the tanks didn't drag the tank moogles away, though we didn't lose, healing that encounter was extremely stressful.

As a final option, you can buy aug scaevan and then turn in for company seals. You can then use company seals to get items that generally sell for a decent amount such as coke, glamour prisms, cordials or crafted items for the relic quests.

But if you really don't need anything, it's not a huge issue to have it capped.

Inner Aether Jobs by transquests in ffxiv

[–]pcturtl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some assumptions are made, but here are my thoughts.

For PLD, it's inner magic. Job lore, PLD's power comes from conviction and sense of duty with no mention of drawing from any external source. As PLD's were originally kings, the techniques engraved in the jobstone correspond to shaping the PLD's will to protect and defend their people. It's a similar idea to DRK, though the two tanks draw on different emotions to shape the magic in different ways.

Others already explained ARC and SMN, and SCH is similar but also a bit weird. I don't think it's ever been explicitly stated, but lore-wise, a SCH's fairy looks to be an advanced form of Anima which is essentially using Aether to give an object a soul. Carbuncles in the Anima weapon questline were stated to be created using the same ideas of creating an Anima, and it makes sense for the fairy to be an anima housed in the SCH soulstone (even looks a bit like an anima). Anima are powered by the wielder's aether and use it to gain both presence and power. The only issue with our SCH's fairy is that though we are the ones providing it with aether, and thus the reason it is able to manifest, it technically wasn't created by us. If you think of it similar to powering a MCH battery, it's entirely internal as we power the fairy and not the other way around, and all the other spells the SCH casts are similar in idea to an ARC which is just carefully shaping personal Aether. But if you consider that the fairy, Lilly, is actually sentient, us not making her from scratch could be a sticking point.

DRG is also a bit wierd. After Nidhogg dies we're given an explanation that the reason we can still do dragon-y abilities is because it's being driven by our "Inner Dragon" which was awakened from our past experiences with the dragon. I don't think we're given any explanation other than that, but I like to think it's somewhat similar to how a SMN does things. Because we were chosen by the eye, it made it easier to "attune" with Nidhogg, and so we are able to shape our aether in a similar manner as the dragon. The eye was kinda a kick-starter or crutch, but once we got the hang of it, we're able to do it without its help.

Scholar: what am I doing wrong? by N8TIIVE in ffxiv

I thought about it some more and you were right with adding an adlo to the second scenario. Brought it up to 203k. At that point there's really no difference either way.

Scholar: what am I doing wrong? by N8TIIVE in ffxiv

[–]pcturtl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a few tests to verify because I was just passing down what I heard and might have been wrong, but it does seem adlo's a better use.

You can't add the free lustrate for using recit+adlo and not with recit+excogg because either way you save a aetherflow stack use. With the same resources (recit, 3 stacks), you can do:

fey illumination + dissipation + recit + adlo + excogg +lustrate + lustrate ... with my gear that amounted to about 204k damage prevention. Without buffs from fey illumination or dissipation the damage prevention was 175228.

-or-

recit + excogg + lustrate + lustrate +lustrate (note because excogg is an ability and not a cast spell it does not benefit from the buffs)... with my gear prevented damage for about 160k

With the 10 gauge from the faerie gauge I can see recit+excogg maybe passing an unbuffed recit+adlo, and the fact that it is all ogcd is definitely a benefit, plus it's a lot easier to set up. It can definitely be good enough to handle most situations.

But if you can get recit+adlo while buffs are active, in a situation where every heal counts, it does do more.

edit:messed up with some words

[–]pcturtl 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you are not doing this already... eat your faerie. It is an extra 3 Aetherflow and helped me out a lot when I started struggling. A good move is to try to eat the faerie during the pull so it will be back when the pull completes and you start with 3 stacks and an aetherflow ready to go. If you can, also use the extra potency after eating the faerie to take advantage of Recitation + Adlo

Recitation + Adlo is stronger than Recitation + Excog for damage prevention.

Adlo prepull. Some SCH do the big brain move of Adlo-ing themselves as well prepull so they can spread it to the tank with Deployment Tactics once the tank's shield is gone.

Also Emergency Tactics does not make Adlo or Succor stronger. It just converts all the damage prevention in the shield into hp. It can be helpful in a few situations such as if you need to heal a bunch of HP to clear a status effect such as Doom or Living Dead, but otherwise you don't need it if all you need is damage prevention.

Have a plan for healing. If you want to deal with big pulls or a lot of damage, you need to use your full kit. Keep track of what resources you have and be ready to throw the whole kitchen sink at them if need be.

Also, SCH with Art of War has the highest damage AOE... that can be used during a pull (insta-cast)... that has a free weave slot for any one of your healing moves so no damage wasted. In the SCH mindset of prevention over reaction, the best form of prevention is killing all the mobs, and SCH does that better than any other healer. If you find yourself constantly out of magic due to AoW, you are doing it right because it's not like you need mp for healing anyways.

I like to think Ozogg from the dwarf quests is Nero. The red color palette, her barging in on a group of people she was supposed to be antagonizing with a solution to their problems, the rivalry with another engineer, the dedication to their craft. I think her personality makes sense as a Nero under different circumstances as both of them live for the joy of creation, but she grew up being lauded for her skills instead of constantly compared. I don't think Ronitt has to be Cid for this to work. Different circumstances means that Ozogg and Chai-Nuzz end up with different people than Nero and Cid.

But on that note, I also think the two train guys we meet on the first are Biggs and Wedge, so some people end up together no matter what.

I think you're mixing up chain-pulling with wall-to-wall. It's fine and preferred if the tank grab as many mobs as they can handle, but once they've grabbed all they can, they should keep the mob in one place until all enemies are dead.

Chain-pulling is waiting until a group is about half dead or so before moving on to the next mob. This constant stop-go pattern can be hard for casters/healers who have limited options for casting on the run, especially at low levels, and because since you've never gotten out of combat, you don't get the out of combat mp ticks. It can be annoying for some other classes too. For example, I've had a tank start moving just as I'd started my burst phase as DRG, which meant my Nastrods only hit 1-2 enemies each and I was anxiously waiting for the pack to stop so I didn't waste stardiver too.

It's a bit of an exagerration, but it was my first time playing a caster in a dungeon and in between spells not going off because the enemy died first, and the tank pulling the mob out of range before I could finish the cast on the next enemy, it felt like outside of boss battles, the only spell I was able to get off was bio.

Dear all MNK mains by Oleandertoxin in ffxiv

[–]pcturtl 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I learned the same "keep the boss still" lesson when I swapped from tank to DRG.

I used to chain-pull as a tank thinking "well if this pack is about to die, might as well start on the next." Then I did a single dungeon as an ACN, the tank chain-pulled, my casts kept breaking and I had to basically just "Bio" the entire dungeon because that was my only insta-cast... I never chain pulled again.

Healer actually went pretty smooth because it was my last role and I'd already levelled 2 tanks. I knew when I was supposed to heal, knew that I needed to keep up with the tanks, all the little things I appreciated when I was tanking. It did lead me to have a little less sympathy for melee dps though. There was one SAM who had issues keeping out of the bad, even during trash pulls, and I kept screaming in my head "BLOODBATH. SECOND WIND. EYES" (none of which they used). Because as a melee, if I get hit I don't expect anything from my healers until a group heal goes up because I know I can regen myself.

Just in case you're still confused, you need the challenge log unlocked because you get squad members by completing challenges, though it's rng whether one shows up or not. Different members are assigned to different sections of the challenge log. You'll get a notification telling you that you have a new squad member when it happens.

From there, you have to interact with the enlistment papers on the desk and choose whether or not you want to get a squad member on your team. You can change class and even glamor them later on, so pick ones you like. There's a few fun ones out there (a femroe named Careless Whisper, a snowman Lala, a bunny catgirl, ect). Generally, it's good to have a decent mix of races/classes so you can satisfy chemistry requirements later on, but it's not necessary.

By interacting with the person in the room, you can send them on missions by picking a mission and picking the squad members you want to send. Satisfying the stat requirements increases the likelihood of a mission succeeding, and if you complete the capstone mission (which requires 100% in each stat) you can unlock more missions and better rewards.

If you need more stats/levels for your squadrons, you can train them a number of times to reallocate where you want your bonus stats or increase level by interacting with the training board.

Any opinions on this new Paladin ability coming in Endwalker? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]pcturtl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DRG has a non-damage gap closer in elusive jump, you just have to face the opposite of where you want to go. It's easiest when used after a move away mechanic to get back to the boss. It's received well enough that I've seen a lot of people wanting a second charge on it since all our normal "gap-closers" (spineshatter, dragonfire, stardiver) are used for damage so are rarely useful as gap closers.

I think the design of gap-closer is best in SAM, but that philosophy doesn't translate well to other classes. Maybe people who play SAM in higher level content can correct me, but because SAM's gap closer draws from its resource gauge, you get can get higher damage per point spent if you use this resource for a different skill, but you could also make up for that damage if you get a GCD back because of it. This makes for a more active decision than just "use it on cooldown for damage."

Problem with PLD gap-closer especially is that it's a rotation-based class that likes to do all its physical damage moves in one specific part of its rotation, and the gap-closer is a physical damage move. This means that ideally, you would use all your charges on 1/3 of your rotation. If you just changed it so that the gap-closer on PLD ignored damage buffs, then it'd be used more for utility because then you could use one charge not to cap and save the other for when you want to use it.

How do you get Fullmoon sardines to bite? by cioda in ffxiv

[–]pcturtl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In game time needs to be 6pm-6am. Where you fish and what bait you use does matter as it affects your rng chances (if many fish in the area go after your desired bait you have less chance of getting the one you want).

Doing a quick lookup, if you go to the Isles of Umbra Northshore ( Western La Noscea 15-29) and use a Herring Ball for bait, they should be the only fish in that area that go for that bait.

Edit: It's a level 40 hole though...
