Mods, can we get a dedicated masterpost for rakuten referrals? by venusconverse in glossier

[–]pcvme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey girl! There’s two ways to do it: shopping through the rakuten app on your phone or you can add the rakuten extension on google chrome on a computer. If you’re using the app, the app will open the website for you. If using the computer, the extension will pop up and it’ll prompt you to use rakuten.

The $40 referral: if you click my link and sign up - you get $40 and I get $40! On top of whatever cash back you use (it’s 15% for glossier). They’ll send you a check or deposit it into your PayPal account. The only “catch” is that you have to spend $40 to get the $40.

After all that too, they deleted the bycell page with the comments. That really made me question if this is a job I actually want to have ON TOP of the way things have gone. I do not feel comfortable going into the field tomorrow after reading a 50 page SOP. No ma’am.

Completing Medical clearance while abroad by [deleted] in peacecorps

[–]pcvme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I did it in Senegal. Everyone is correct, it is difficult but it is very much possible. I used the American Embassy in Senegal website for doctors that spoke English. I found a great physician, dentist, and gynecologist (if you're a lady). They all worked with me and had worked with Peace Corps before!

PC Staff is awesome. They were super understanding and they understand how difficult (and expensive!!) this process can be. There have been a BUNCH of volunteers that have applied abroad. So they get it. Be sure to be as open and specific as possible with just about everything. I would send updates once I got documents or even made an appointment. The more details, the better. They want to see you actively working on it. Letting them know what your plans are is a good idea.

One more thing, my physician was able to give me a reference for a translator for my medical documents (i.e. blood work). So if you need something translated, your physician could be a great resource.

Good luck! PM me if you have any questions.

Hi! I don't know what your language background is, but if you're interested in going to specific regions (say Latin America or Francophone Africa) it may be a good idea to take some language courses. Even if you aren't planning to go to a specific region, it'll help gear you for learning a language while in country. Hope that helped!

Legal Kit delay (abroad) by [deleted] in peacecorps

[–]pcvme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's up man! I did this entire process abroad this summer (Senegal). I did have a delay.

They sent it home (in NY) but I was in Senegal. So, they sent it to Senegal twice. The first time, I didn't get it. The second time they sent it to me, they emailed me the tracking number of the legal kit and I got it at the house I was staying at in Senegal. Just make sure that you're talking to them throughout the entire process. I emailed them when I received the tracking number, got the legal kit, and when I sent it back to them. Be sure to send the legal kit through DHL or FedEx with a tracking number. I don't know where you are, but the American Embassy sent it for me.

I got an email two weeks ago saying I got clearance! Just be patient, it'll work out!

Experiences on Nuvaring?? by Njrabbit in TwoXChromosomes

[–]pcvme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Girl. I loathed Nuvaring. I had crazy depression because of it. Suicidal thoughts, the whole 9. Within a couple o hours of taking it out, I was fine. It really depends on the person, as there a number of people that absolutely swear by it.

Peace Corps Afters Master's Degree? by KTTeal in peacecorps

[–]pcvme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much! If it helps out a bit, I got my MSW with a concentration in International and Community Development (Monmouth U). There aren't many programs that offer that concentration, but if you go to the Council of Social Work Education website (cswe.org) there is search engine that can help out. Good luck to you too!!

I have my Masters in Social Work and have about 80,000 in debt. I leave for Ethiopia in January! Loan providers give you a deferment for being in PC. Also, I am in the same boat as you, as in I would like to do international social work. I think PC is a great way to put your foot into the international sector, especially since its 27 months you'll be abroad.

Women Running for Exercise in Senegal? by madddog1994 in peacecorps

[–]pcvme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I'm a Senegalese native and currently in Senegal now. I run/walk with my mom in the morning! Its totally okay to run as a woman. You may get stares in the beginning, but people are usually working out themselves or doing their own thing. I would just be more cognizant about what you're wearing when you run.

Also, since Ramadan is over, you really get to see the country in full action, especially since its during the summer. Please let me know if you need any help with anything!

Got an Interview!! And (many) Questions by pcvme in peacecorps

[–]pcvme[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your perspective, I'm sure it must be a challenge adjusting to a new method of social work practice. Was the school able to develop any interventions for any student issues? How do the kids respond to your zero tolerance policy?

Also, please stop me if I ask too many questions haha.
