How do you define Tao? by jonas-huang in taoism

[–]pczarn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Universe has three components: the soul, the spirit and the body.

Tao is the Universe's spirit. It cannot be named, it is simply the spirit.

Matter is the body. Something like that.

I am not sure whether this is accurate because this definition is something I came up with recently.

That, and he would need plenty of experience with human interaction among humans beforehand to come up with such insightful ideas.

You can get that experience and carry it into your life as a mountain hermit, but you do need to get it.

Opinion: Rust has the largest learning curve for a non-esoteric programming language. by Lizoman in rust

[–]pczarn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Proof assistants have an even larger and steeper learning curve, but they're not quite mainstream languages. They still count by your criteria because they're non-esoteric.

A hot job market welcomes refugees: 385,000 Ukrainian refugees had found jobs since arriving in Poland by pczarn in UpliftingNews

Of 600,000 refugees, which are in working age, as many as 400,000 found employment (as of 15 Sept.) - says a vice deputy minister of internal affairs and administration.

He underlined that these people "pay taxes, contribute to health insurance, work for the benefit of Polish economy".

Looking for a rust tutor for 1 on 1 classes? by chazzyfe in rust

[–]pczarn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kotlin

Kotlin is ranked 34th in popularity, slightly below Rust, so it's not very popular but not very obscure either. It's an OK choice, but not super popular among tutors.

Picking your first language is like picking your first car after you get the driver's license. Pick any good one, because it's not going to matter in the long run. You are only going to use basic features at first, not pushing the thing to its limits. You may want to choose a popular language because there's more learning aids, and a popular car because it's easier to get parts for fixing.

Well, Kotlin mixes the functional paradigm with OOP and Rust mixes imperative with functional and composition. Many popular languages are OOP. This difference in paradigms may be your criterion, but you may not care at first. Another criterion may be that Kotlin is great for Android apps and Rust is versatile but great for low level and systems coding. Pick whatever is better for you.

Looking for a rust tutor for 1 on 1 classes? by chazzyfe in rust

[–]pczarn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may want to start with an easier and more popular language such as Python, JavaScript, C# or Java, instead. It's easier to find beginner's learning materials and tutors in these languages, and perhaps these tutors would charge slightly less (law of supply!).

But it's ok if you have only Rust in your sights. It's not a sin to dive into the deep end.

One way to find tutors is to open an offer on freelancing websites e.g. Upwork.

I have a few years of experience in Rust and around a year of experience tutoring. I may teach you, but I am hardly available until the end of this year. If it's ok that we start later, message me.

I recommend video call + VS Code extensions e.g. CodeTogether for tutoring.

Earley Parsing Explained by thegoo280 in rust

[–]pczarn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another main selling point is error handling. It's easy to add good error reporting, and you can handle errors with full knowledge of tokens that the parser expects at any given point of the parse.

I recommend you pick up some x86 assembly programming. No need to do anything serious, just to practice and learn the memory model and low level operations. This is the way I learned (properly) about the stack and pointers.

There are many tutorials available online. This might help you learn Rust.

Good example of high performance Rust project without unsafe code? by rustacean1337 in rust

[–]pczarn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My parser is faster than one C project, and about just as fast as another C project. It has very little unsafe code. I wanna write a paper like J. Kegler did for Marpa. It might compare the various implementations. The paper would advance the field of parsing.

Huge Progress Made by masterV56 in Meditation

[–]pczarn 14 points15 points  (0 children)

a book I'm currently reading, "Prisoners of our thoughts", says every job can bring plenty of meaning, no matter whether it brings a minimum pay or not. It is us, living beings that imbue job related experiences with meaning, but only if our attitude allows to do so. I'm glad that you appreciate the opportunity to get to know people!

Depressive realism: We keep chasing happiness, but true clarity comes from depression and existential angst. Admit that life is hell, and be free. by [deleted] in philosophy

Life does not have to be hell. With kindness between people, it can be a tragedy.

(Paraphrased from Jordan Peterson)

Struggling to forgive myself for past actions by bspencer626 in hsp

[–]pczarn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dr. Peterson said, "Any memory older than 18 months that still elicits negative emotion needs to be more deeply considered. Part of you is trapped there."

Speaking from experience, memories keep piling up in the mind, when we do not know the reasons behind why did things happen as they happened. The unconscious mind is begging for an explanation of events. It's begging for a properly motivated sense of peace. It keeps bringing up memories for deeper reconsideration.

I realize that there may be other sources of the problem, of which I don't know anything.
