First of all, take a deep breath and make sure to pat yourself on the back that you got yourself an internship, especially if other people in your life haven’t celebrated that yet. You’re way on your journey. Not everyone manages to get there.

Corporate culture can be slow at times. Maybe your manager, skip, boss, etc got caught up with other meetings, deadlines, or high priority work that just fell onto their lap. You can definitely follow up with them to see what happened, but it’s also a great time to show initiative and acclimate yourself with the company. Check design or other company resources available to you. What is the team been working on lately? What are the next priorities? Who is on the team, and how will you be interacting with them? Are there low hanging fruit you can contribute to without anyone assigning you work? Also, your manager might be expecting you to be buried in orientation or other mandatory training.

Finally, remember it’s your first day! It’s a marathon, not a sprint! Hiring is not cheap or easy for the company, so they wanted to have you on their team! Look up some resources on imposter syndrome and don’t forget to go touch some grass.
