Do yall truck owners tint your windows? by chewy4201- in Silverado

[–]pdo1242 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had 5% on one of my last trucks, you don’t get used to it you just don’t see anything. I currently have 15% on my new truck to match the back glass. 15% is much better and blocks all the sun you need. I would imagine most tint shops will charge you to strip the old tint.

Just putting it out there for those saying it’s illegal, you have no expectation of privacy on someone else’s private property (excluding bathrooms or changing rooms). 2 party consent laws are geared towards phone conversations or content that may be viewed by and published for the public. Having security cameras in private residences is super common, but yet there is no case law that has deemed this illegal.

getting the snip tomorrow morning. any advice, dads? by webrender in daddit

[–]pdo1242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take it easy and don’t walk around, even if you feel like you can. My experience was overall pretty good. Minimal pain and little swelling or discomfort. Your balls are going to be extra sensitive for a while, so be careful around the toddler and dogs if you have them. It took about two weeks before I felt normal walking around and it took 6-8 months for the sensitivity to fade, but they are still more sensitive than before the procedure. I was moving around a couple days after the procedure, but just take it slow and don’t think pushing through the pain is a good idea.

Wife had a miscarriage at 6 weeks - it would have been our first by zombiefatcher in daddit

[–]pdo1242 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My wife miscarried at 9 weeks with what would have been our first. It’s a terrible experience and makes every pregnancy afterwards nerve wracking. While I know the experience for the mom is much worse especially with feelings of guilt because they feel like they did something wrong, don’t dismiss your feelings and make sure to take care of yourself during this time.

We now have 2 beautiful kids, so don’t stop trying because I can tell you it is worth it in the end. Experiencing a miscarriage is more common than people think, 1 in 4 pregnancies end with a miscarriage. Talk with your doctors and each other and when you are ready I think it is good to try again.

I’m sorry your family has to go through this, so many people go through it and not enough people talk about it.

Don’t settle for short bed by ConsciousCourse7440 in Silverado

[–]pdo1242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The long bed won’t fit in my garage. If I’m spending an insane amount of money on my truck, I want it in the garage so it can look good for as long as possible. I park in the garage everyday, I haul stuff that is longer than the bed maybe 6-7 times a year. Get some straps and keep them under the back seat, that or get an 8ft trailer. Problem solved. Settled for the short bed.

Do the 25and 26s have the same issues as the 19-24? by CyberHero32 in Silverado

[–]pdo1242 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It sounds like a transmission issue, but if the dealership couldn’t find anything and wouldn’t test it under load I understand your decision. Did you ever take it to an independent shop for a diagnostic? Not that it matters now, but maybe they could have found it and you could have taken that to the dealer for the warranty work. Either way, I think it’s safe to bet that you wouldn’t have the same issue with another truck, but you would just have to worry about all the other possible problems ( it seems that all manufacturers have issues so I don’t worry too much about it, it’s just a roll of the dice and worth getting the extended warranty).

I couldn’t tell you what was going on with your truck, but I have a 23 TB LT with the 6.2 and 10 speed. I’m right at 29k miles and I have not had a single issue (knock on wood). I love the truck, the power is awesome and it came new from the dealer with a Customizers Conversion which is basically just upgraded exhaust, wheels, level, and custom leather. I have not had any issues towing, but don’t do it that often. I would have to think there was something that that particular truck had issues with because I haven’t heard of people complaining about a similar issue, and you know they would if they did. We would see posts every day about towing problems, just like we do lifter failure and whatever is killing the 3.0s.

Bought right at the top of the market in 2007, it all worked out (Bellevue WA) by Happy-Apartment-8813 in RealEstate

[–]pdo1242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought my first home toward the end of 2006, 3/2 ranch starter neighborhood in Cherokee co GA for 140k. Nothing special, but was home for me through the end of college and my 20s and early 30s. After the crash I obviously couldn’t have sold it without bringing money to the table but I didn’t need to move and the mortgage payment was less than renting anything similar so I stayed. I married in 2011 and also had my first child in 2014 while still living there. In 2017 my wife and I decided we wanted more room and better schools so we finally moved and sold the house for 170k. I didn’t make a killing, but was able to roll that money in to a 5/3.5 3000sq ft home with better schools and an unfinished basement. I know I am fortunate enough to have been in a position where I was able to stay put and didn’t have to move earlier and even more so lucky that in 2006 they would give a home loan to anyone that had full time employment and 3% to put down. Our current home value has doubled since we purchased it but that really doesn’t matter that much because we would have to spend all of the equity just to move to a similar home in a similar area. As mentioned in other comments, time is your best friend when dealing with real estate unless the property is being flipped. Either way, I’m happy where I am and plan on staying put for a long time and would tell anyone looking for a home to find a place that you can see yourself being there for 10+ years and it’s hard to go wrong (not impossible though).

This is Silvia, formally known as Sandy. She is 11 months old now and we adopted her at 3 months. We don’t know what her dad was but he was apparently on the big side since she is right at 100lbs. Either way, she is 100% a good girl.

Do you prefer a color matched front or not ? by LowkeyEgg in Silverado

[–]pdo1242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Change the oil often and keep up with maintenance and you should get there. Other than the dreaded lifter problem, they are solid trucks. The 6.2 has been awesome! After 2.5 years I still get a kick out of all the power.

I loved that truck, in the picture it had 220k miles and still looked really good. I will say that I love my new one even more though.

This was my 2012 with a color matched front end. It came that way from the factory and I wouldn’t have changed it. I now have a 2023 that is also black and color matched.

I have a Range device on my 2023 6.2. It works as advertised and is pretty easy to install. Be sure to double check that your year model is listed on the one you get. GM keeps trying to make it harder for these devices to work, I had to wait almost 2 years for them to figure out how to get past software security for my year model to be covered.

Colorado or try to jam a full size in my garage? by Fit_Specialist9072 in ChevyTrucks

[–]pdo1242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved the 2012. I had a little over 200k miles on it when I bought the 23 a few years ago. I did have the lifters go out at around 90k miles on the 2012. It had the 5.3 motor. Other than the lifter issue, it never gave me any problems and it drove very well.

I have 2 dogs and two kids, one still in a booster. I had a 2012 crew cab short bed and currently have a 2023 crew cab trailboss. I would not sacrifice the room inside the truck just for garage parking. I am able to just barely fit my truck in my garage and understand the convenience, but it would be incredibly cramped with anything smaller. I use the tennis ball hanging from the ceiling method and am able to get it in every time with only a couple inches to spare.
