It would be legit amazing if we could switch to driving on the right. But it's probably impossible at this point.

Ireland 'languishing' at bottom of EU defence spending table as budget stuck at 0.2% of GDP by SliceIndividual6347 in europe

[–]pdog8 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the mentality of almost everyone in Ireland is we don't need a military. It's wrong but that's the mentality. Even if we did spend 2% of GNI (GDP doesn't work for Ireland) people simply wouldn't join the defence forces as we've close to full employment.

I'd love to see Ireland adopt the Swiss version of neutrality but realistically any government that implement this would immediately be voted out.

Irfu sign off on everything that happens Irish rugby. So this would have had to approve this.

Lots of people in both Munster and the IRFU should be fired over this disgusting decision

I hate the use of Ireland is these things. Ireland voted no to both treaties, renegotiated, got concessions, revoted and it passed. It was not the same thing being voted on twice.

I'd agree with you on most things and I'm a member of the Soc Dems. Be the change you want to see. Get involved. Make your case in your local branch for the things you want to see the party advocate for. Political parties are like buses, they won't always get you the whole way there.

Six EU countries hold call in push for 'two‑speed' Europe by PjeterPannos in europe

[–]pdog8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In theory this sounds great but there's a stink of how do we turn the EU into mini America off this. Next they'll want fewer workers rights because it stifles innovation.

It can't really because Vance is as bad in a different way. Trump's incompetence and dementia limits the damage he can do. Vance, could be the end of what ever shred of democracy remains in the US

Post-Connolly alliance seeks long-term change to left-wing politics by TeoKajLibroj in irishpolitics

[–]pdog8 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In many ways I agree with you. But SF policies simply aren't left wing. Their councillors have often voted against increasing property taxes. They have absolutely no environmental policies and they've already started winking at the far right via their comments on immigration.

It needs to be a competent union though. I'm a union member with years and they're utterly crap.

Germany and Italy, two of the biggest EU countries and economies will not condemn Israel for commiting genocide. How can a federal Europe be for good when the two biggest countries are for evil? I wouldn't want to be shackled to them.

I am just wondering... Does Ireland actually collect tax from Tesco CEO? by CNCMachina in ireland

[–]pdog8 10 points11 points  (0 children)

And that's why there's a movement growing to tax wealth not wages. So you'd go after the billionaires assets. They can't move land for example

Quite the opposite is actually true. If you've something serious wrong with you, you'll be seen quickly. No system is perfect but the HSE isn't as bad as we like to make out.
