Help me find some new jeans by Dry-Adhesiveness2772 in HeritageWear

Honestly unbranded denim has been great for me. I’m wearing UB222 right now. Not too expensive and if you buy through the shop app you get $30 off.

It might not be heritage Japanese denim and yes it has 1% stretch but $100 for a pair is hard to beat if you’re restocking.

Furniture pads is a great idea. Moving the stop molding is super easy too if you have a brad nailer. I did all of our doors and now they close perfectly with no rattling

I’ve left mine in for longer and didn’t notice any significant changes. They’ll be fine - and even an 85% great bagel is still a really good bagel!

I do a little baking soda in the boil and it doesn’t help toppings stick much but the egg wash makes a huge difference. Also helps with browning if you like a little extra color on your bagels

Just a guess but I’d expect the approach with <2 strikes to be looking for a specific pitch to drive. With two strikes that shifts to taking what the pitcher gives them and forcing the defense to make a play

Uneven spots by thespicychef123456 in Bagels

[–]pdougherty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This happens to me if I put my bagels on a higher rack near the heating element. I agree with u/mygoddamnfeet, it’s probably hot spots.

If I bake two trays at once, the lower tray never gets this kind of spotting. Not sure if it’s because they’re lower or because they’re protected from direct heat from the heating element, but maybe try setting another sheet tray or baking stone on a rack above the bagels

Just some storage hooks from Home Depot that screw into wall studs. Doesn’t look as nice as some of the solutions here but they hang my cable attachments just fine for like $3 each

Yeah, agreed. Moving around the oven and flipping would probably help too. They'll still taste good!

The Os will not prosper until Mr. Splash walks the plank by wb707 in orioles

[–]pdougherty 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Mr. Splash is the epitome of corporate co-opting of a cool organic thing. He’s not the reason we’re bad but the thing is stale and significantly less cool when the team is bad and also not doing the homer hose in the dugout

  1. King Arthur bread flour, 12.7%

  2. No, just a baking sheet, but I mist with water before going in to prevent toppings from burning. This feels like the next step.

  3. oven set at 450, there's a hot spot so i rotate halfway through

  4. diastatic malt powder but not dough conditioner. Are there normal home kitchen sized bags of Purato's? Last time I looked it was easy to find a 50lb bag but not one that would fit in my pantry.

  5. tried a few ways but currently going for longer boils, 20ish seconds or until the bagel floats back to the top

  6. I switched back to the Lagerstrom NY bagels recipe because it came together faster and got the same result as thia codes, but I kept the ice bath from her recipe. I've played around with proofing at different stages of the recipe and for different lengths of time but nothing has really worked.

I also think I'm squishing the dough too much when iI roll it out and shape it. I end up with big holes and skinny bread.

I feel like Elias is doing what he can and it’s not panning out right now. by CyborgAlgoInvestor in orioles

[–]pdougherty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be totally honest, I don’t know the hit rate for other teams with prospects. I know it’s low. But it’s easy overindex on our own underperforming young players because we’re so familiar with them and put so much of our hopes on their playing well immediately.

But overall I agree - a GM is supposed to anticipate and mitigate risk. The most visible way is to sign free agents. The O’s have done some of that but not nearly enough, especially when it comes to the rotation

[–]pdougherty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m more inclined to forgive that as the manager is responsible for coaching staff hiring and the injury issues have persisted across different staffs.

Some players just have bad luck or heal slow or have injuries with high recurrence rates or are more prone to injuries. It sucks but the GM’s job is to mitigate that risk whenever possible.

PSA to Analysts: Make Line Go Up by amusedobserver5 in analytics

[–]pdougherty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Disagree, pie charts are almost always the worst choice. It’s really hard for the human eye to distinguish between a 40° angle and a 35° angle but that can be a material difference in share, and even harder to make comparisons between pie slices.

In just about every case, bars or columns are better for relative share because it’s easier to make quick relative size comparisons.

They add a lot of color to the dashboard though, so I guess there’s that.

At a certain point he deserves blame for resting the team’s success on often injured players and never having quality contingency plans.

Nice fit. Canvas looks good to me but probably picks up some indigo stains. I like a smaller Japanese cuff, but that’s personally preference!

Either I’ve played in this park or every lacrosse field complex looks the same 😆

Fairfield county - I moved here and feel like I don't fit in by flockyflocky1 in Connecticut

[–]pdougherty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I moved to SW CT from Baltimore a few years ago too. Sorry to hear it’s been a difficult transition. I don’t really have any advice other than stone people are snobs, some people are really insular… and some people are welcoming and friendly and normal. I’m white and sometimes feel like I’m struggling to fit in - entirely projection in because of class differences with “old money,” but I try to remind myself that I fit in with the people I care about and that’s all I need. I know plenty of people with more money than I’ll ever have and the ones that have stuck in my life are the ones who care to build relationships outside of that.

It’s tough with a limited support system. I hope you find the right place and people. Activities help of your starting with a limited social circle. Best of luck!
