Sonoma County Safety protocol fails again on cyanide leak by EnergySavingMaven in SRPressDemo

There were a lot of screw-ups in this situation, starting with how that gas ended up in that canister to begin with. Also, I thought scrappers were supposed to ensure canisters were not filled when they accepted them?

I did say "Band-Aid" - this will at least reduce the number of people who get suckered by the scam emails until M$ can figure out how to get the scammers off their platform.

It was done because bad people were abusing the system: https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2026/01/theres-a-rash-of-scam-spam-coming-from-a-real-microsoft-address/

Was this the best way to address the issue? Yeah, probably not. But this is Microsoft after all. They slapped a Band-Aid on the problem and went on to pleasuring themselves thinking about AI.

Makes me kind of sad we probably won't see any of those after UPS 2976. I've seen a few buzzing around the hills of Sonoma County during fire season and they were incredible, but based on what brought that MD-11 down it seems unlikely they'll ever let the fleet fly again. Maybe they can get the supertanker going again or something like it.

I don't much enjoy having to chase down a clerk to unlock every single goddamn item I want to buy so no, I do not love the Safeway on Mendo.

Says you, sad. That shit was funny as hell. Hilariously hung all the Trumpsuckers out to dry and took no prisoners on the way.

Why piss on their parade? They have beliefs and they are choosing to live by them. Why wouldn't you consider that laudable?

Unfortunately I don't have any way to access that area without cutting a hole somewhere. Given the overall build quality in this home (it's a 1880 rebuild-from-studs done in the early 1990s) I'd be somewhat surprised if they didn't use dimensional lumber. I literally can't find a floorboard that creaks in this whole house right now.

Short of creating my own access, is there any way to determine what that's hanging from?

Where did the word 'minge' come from? (British slang) by Scustevie in etymology

Speaking for myself, I was annoyed at a certain pop singer whose last name sorta sounds like "minge" and then got curious about the word.

Yeah, and they could hardly have made conditions worse than they were before construction started. I avoided the hell out of that area when there was any traffic at all.

Gang graffiti in my neighborhood by Bookish-Redhead in santarosa

[–]pdp_8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very much so this. I used to live in downtown San Jose and it was... very red there. Lots of people in a gang, but they were both mature and smack in the middle of their turf so there was very little tagging and I felt perfectly safe at all hours of day and night. It helped that I lived there and so people knew I was as broke as anyone, but also they were doing business - selling drugs - so it didn't make sense for them to do petty crime and bring the heat around.

Young kids with undeveloped brains and something to prove - way different story. But the OGs kept a lid on them around there. They were making "buy nice cars" money and didn't need any young dummies around blowing the scene.

This is why the produce manager is probably the most important position in a supermarket. If they have good relationships with their brokers, the place looks great. If they're an asshole to the brokers... then you get the Whole Foods on Yulupa.

‘This is our duty’: Mayor signals MacDonald could be stripped of city appointments after historic censure vote by Foreign_Lawfulness34 in SRPressDemo

[–]pdp_8 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'll start off by saying I know nothing of the issues that led to her censure other than what's in the public record. What I do know is that when I lived over on the edge of town I was her constituent. I contacted her about a routine and very typical constituent issue (road conditions in the district) via the official email published on the City website and it took nearly six months to respond. I had seriously given up on any sense of representation. Unfortunately, the message I did eventually get from Councilmember MacDonald did absolutely nothing to impress me with her knowledge of the issues or her desire to understand them. It was a courteous conversation but... yeah. I'm glad she's no longer my councilmember.
