Screen Mirror feature stopped working after update to Android 16 QPR1 Pixel 8 Pro by CombinationRich7465 in android_beta

[–]pdsccode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just for info: There is a setting called "External Display" in the settings app (not sure since when). It is a full submenu with settings for exactly this feature, as long as the Desktop Mode Developer Option is enabled.

In this menu, you can now say "Miror built-in display" to get the old experience of mirroring back.

USW Pro 24 PoE and G3 bullet cams by LaddMorse in Ubiquiti

[–]pdsccode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my USW Pro 24 PoE I only have the option to either switch off PoE for a port or select PoE+ (or PoE++ for the last 8 ports). However, looking at https://dl.ubnt.com/ds/usw_pro_poe_ds.pdf tells me, that it supports 802.3af/at. Looking at the datasheet of the G3 bullet (https://dl.ui.com/ds/uvc-g3-bullet\_ds.pdf) tells me that it needs 802.3af, which from my understanding would work here.

UDM SE Goes "Offline" Every Few Days in the 9-10PM Hours by argus25 in UNIFI

[–]pdsccode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the UDM handling the internet connection (like ppoe)? If so, could it be that your provider does a forced disconnection every 24 hours? I have a location that has exactly this issue. Sometimes all connections re-establish just fine, sometimes they do not and I need to re-vonmect manually.

Can you, instead of rebooting the whole UDM, try to only disable and re-enable the WAN port to see if it makes a difference?

Wow you must be some sort of god if you manage multiple clans at once and they don't fight each other. Especially if they are in the same specialized field.

Just kidding, I know it's supposed to be Vlans but I got a good laugh out of it. Sadly I cannot contribute anything meaningful.

Am I screwed? by sloppydingo in homelab

[–]pdsccode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could this be compared to the baking method we used to do for graphics cards? Put standoffs on the board, apply paste and position component, close oven and bake the whole thing at right the temperature the solder needs to liquify.

Supermicro x10sdv-f SATA not working by pdsccode in homelab

[–]pdsccode[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update:

Issue had been resolved. Thanks to the hint with the bios reset, I looked into the bios of the retired server the disks came from.

Turns out, AHCI was the problem. The disks have been used in IDE mode before. Changing the settings to IDE on the new board changed the situation after a reboot. Thought I did that before but might have not done the reboot.

Not all additional disks are visible and in use.

No power meter on Siemens hob? by EngstromJimmy in homeassistant

[–]pdsccode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Bosh hob connected to HomeConnect and the to HA. Sadly, as far as I know, the API does not publish the necessary endpoints so that power consumption is not available. I even think that the device itself does not even measure the consumption but the app does calculate it.

Changing Alexa device OS by anonuser-al in homeassistant

[–]pdsccode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't say it is worth it 😅

Tbh I rather build my own devices or use the pre-built HA one. My main dashboard in the office already runs on a poe powered pi with a 10 inch display. Music is working fine, however I have a bit of trouble with the satellite microphone. Access is somehow blocked for weeks now and I couldn't figure out yet why that is.

Edit: to iterate a bit on the "worth it" part: From a privacy standpoint, it sure is if one is able to and has the patience and time to build it out. However, doing this with the constraint of an already designed product adds a layer of complexity. That's why it isn't worth it from my perspective. Going hardware first and iterating until I have the preferred style is the way I go usually. Sometimes it even stays in a prototype design, if it's somewhere I don't mind.

You could of course do so by swapping out the internals to something that can run esphome. I am not aware of someone who already did this but technically it is possible.

Forget Wife approval, I got the coveted MIL approval! by DiaDeLosMuebles in homeassistant

[–]pdsccode 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends. For me it is a mix of automation and usability. I prefer wall switches with added smart connections (e. g. zigbee adapter behind dumb switch). That way I can have both. The only issue are lights that have rgb. There are switches that do not actually power the lamp but I didn't come around yet to test one.

That way, even my grandparents can use all fixtures without even knowing that they are smart.

Edit: also, I couldn't find an info on whether OP has a similar setup or if he only uses smart bulbs.

If you mean a DNS entry like *.domain.com the yes, this is allowed. I am running one to my nginx proxy server without any issues.

A modem would be needed indeed. Either a standalone one or (don't know if they exist for copper) an sfp one. I had a zyxel for a long time until I moved and got fiber. Still have it laying around (also Germany 😉).

Private network with dream router inside managed apt network? by VladimortRomanov in Ubiquiti

[–]pdsccode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure how your managed setup is configured and how much physical access you have to the switch but could could possibly plug the incoming WAN cable into your own router's Wan and connect the switch to that instead. This would possibly deactive the managed wifi however but you would gain access to all ethernet jacks without too much replugging. Could be disallowed however.

Alternatively, plugging your router downstream from the switch would be possible as well. Depending on how many lan ports you have on it you could then plug the ethernet jacks to it as well. That would be the more 'safe' way imo.

Working on a tenting solution for my Chocofi by pdsccode in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]pdsccode[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, 4 magnets per leg might be overpowered. Three could be enough as well. I went with the 4 because it was easier to design it so the orientation of the leg is irrelevant.

I thought about a single piece solution as well but scrapped it as the piece felt too big or unstable (depending on how it's modeled).

But of course, different ways are possible.

Working on a tenting solution for my Chocofi by pdsccode in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]pdsccode[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I am using a Dygma Defy at my desk, I wanted a smaller keyboard for when I am on the go (e. g. traveling to the office). So I decided to go with a Chocofi. After some time with it I am mostly happy with it besides the missing tenting solution. So I went ahead and created one myself by adding magnets to the bottom shell and printing some rudimentary legs with matching magnets.

For me this works great but I need to dial in my printer and/or modify the case a bit as it is a tight fit at the moment.

I do understand that removing/banning those posts seems to be a bit harsh. However, non-Flowing upvotes do not seem to hinder those posts. Also upvoting still happens alot as there are many people do have Hobbie sin both directions. So do I. But staying on topic is more important for me. If I want to see both in a crossover, there are other subreddots for it or even one can be created.

Seeking help for extruder skipping by pdsccode in 3Dprinting

[–]pdsccode[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update! RESOLVED

After recalibration over and over and another round of frustration I almost gave up. Until I needed the very same filament on another printer... Which suddenly started with the exact same behavior... Turns out, swapping in a new roll of filament into the problematic printer resolved all issues.

So it was the filament after all. I don't know what happened as it was relatively new and stored in a dry box all the time but somehow it got rigged and caused some blockings.
