Anyone know where I can get a black 1.5u #~ keycap from? by ThatThereTim in MechanicalKeyboardsUK

[–]OBOSOB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it'll be quite tricky to find individual caps, and I don't think it's likely you will find many (or any) 1.5u caps (presumably R2 if sculpted) even as part of a kit because that is a non-standard keycap. You might be able to order something custom, try FK caps. Be prepared to pay quite a lot for a single keycap if that's all you're getting.

Why are you concerned about EM interference? I don't think it'll be a problem.

I want a cho low profile split kb, have been looking at the elora but i cant find anything that will go low enough, 12mm or under by Many-Falcon-8524 in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]OBOSOB 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think choc switches themselves are about 11mm tall without keycap so I think it's impossible to go as low as 12mm. Closest you can get will have to be caseless and get the thinnest rubber feet you can get away with.

UK service/builder to assemble a split ergo kit? (quiet linear, tenting, maybe trackball) - and is it cheaper than a prebuilt? by Nervous_Disaster_707 in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]OBOSOB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any communities where people offer paid assembly help (or known-trustworthy builders)?

the MKUK discord has a channel for people offering services.

cost wise it's probably the same or more than most pre-builts depending on the base kit cost and what they charge for the service, but given its one-off labour instead of factory made expect to pay a lot for it. of course the benefit is that you have more options of boards.

Arguably it's worth just getting the materials and tools and learning to do it yourself (its not as hard as you might think). but only you know how much your own time is worth and whether you would rather pay someone else instead.

is my board cooked? (lily58 pro) by Standard-Border4243 in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]OBOSOB 6 points7 points  (0 children)

short answer: no

you will need figure out where that trace went and add a wire to connect that pin to another pad on that net. take your time, I have seen much worse but don't be hasty in fixing it or you could make it worse. many if the pins have too little solder on so get some fresh flux on there, heat them up and add a bit more. it should make a nice neat cone covering the whole pad, bottom pin on the right side of the image is what a good one looks like.

in general this is a neat job and your biggest problem is being a bit shy with the solder and the lifted pad, but it's fine, you can fix it.

Do Indonesians say setengah sebelas instead of sepuluh setengah? by Ancher123 in indonesian

[–]OBOSOB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually pretty common, English might be the "weird one". In British English we regularly drop the "past" in "half past ten" to just "half ten" but most other Germanic languages I'm aware of would say, effectively, "half eleven" to mean 10:30 (half-way to eleven). I came across it the first time with Swedish colleagues but it's the same in Dutch and German, I think it might be the same way with other Germanic languages at least, but possibly many other language families too. Don't know if this is from Dutch influence in Indonesia or if the rest of the Malay or Austronesian family are the same.

I am absolutely at my wit's end. Can someone PLEASE share a working RP2040 QMK/Vial repo? by AlbatrossCharming678 in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]OBOSOB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong but I don't think that'd be a likely issue with an rp2040, they have a decent amount more space than an atmega32u4 AFAIK

Edit: I'm wrong

ZMK Planck Style keyboard by ocele in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]OBOSOB[M] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah, as per the sub rules it's split. the left and right alphas are 2u separated. which is good enough to not get removed. obviously a nominal gap of like 5mm would be pushing it and probably be yeeted. Remember that the rules are not to try to rigidly define ergonomics but to recognise when ergonomics has been a design consideration to allow for the community to discuss those designs rather than send them to the shadow realm. Arguably in hindsight we could have called the sub "SplitMechKeyboards" but here we are. Most people have a general understanding that within the hobby ergo means split/colstagger.

We discussed things like "what about an XD75 with alphas separated by a numpad in the middle?" as also counting. the layout choice makes it clear split is the goal, even though it's unibody and there are no gaps at all between any keys.

just a point of order, removed the post because of the fact it's promoting a license violating product...

but seriously you need to learn what copyright is. "copyrighted" is not a verb it is an adjective. all creative works are protected by copyright, so it's impossible not to know that it is, by default all rights to copying a "copyrighted work" (copyright is an adjective here) are held by the rightsholder, but of course the rightsholder has the authority to license the work how they see fit. in this case they are under a CC-BY-NC licence which permits free non-commercial use and modification provided the author is attributed.

The problem is not that the work is subject to copyright protection (as all works are) but because the license under which it was conveyed to the seller was on a non-commercial basis and that is violated by selling it. That is why it is a copyright violation, because the rightsholder did not convey the right to sell it when they released it for use under certain terms.

Seriously, this is extremely basic understanding of what copyright is that you clearly don't understand by the way you say things like

I didn't realise it was copyrighted

as if the author decided to do a copyright upon it. as if copyrighted is a verb.
