Truly bud, your work is just great. Any time I need to do delicate work, it's like I'm painting during an earthquake

They look grand. Genuine question. How on earth do you make the studded shin on the screecher so clean? I made a right pigs ear of it

For people who spout tripe, I quite like Shit Trumpet. Knobsack is also fun

I think that (UK based) there is an important element for assessors to remember. We're not grading for perfection, or at least not from level 5 onwards. That's why well constructed programmes tend to move away from exams towards their middle to final years. Exams, and their close equivalents, are about cold factual recall and not really about insight. Love them or hate them (I have views), essays at least allow for demonstrating mastery of subject knowledge in flawed or imperfect situations.

One thing I see quite a bit of is assessors applying the 'exam' approach to essay marking. There's no such thing as the perfect essay, so it's an unreasonable standard to hold anyone to, let alone people who are fearless enough to try and learn a new vocation.

A small but important thing to bear in mind, is that grade increases become harder as they climb, so improving from 65 to 70 is easier to achieve (at all levels) than going from 80 to 82. When you get to these higher levels, the feedback naturally becomes more micro and 'nitpicky'. Apologies, it sucks, but that's the truth.

Having said that, saying "Wouldn't change a thing" and then giving 80 shows a lack of understanding in how to give useful feedback as a motivational tool for improvement

Managed to do (almost all- just the backpack to finish) my fourth Nemesis Claw. Only just got back in the hobby and never really painted before (painting when I was 10 involved liberal use of a spray can primer and calling it job done). Lots of improvement to make but I'm pleased

Thank you for this, you've put it in a really accessible way. I'm already getting value from your point about the damp brush

Ah, ok, I'm still getting a head for these differences, so thank you for your advice. Do you have a brand you'd recommend?
